I had two old co-workers do this shit. They were both from the same Asian country and were able to each speak a ton of languages and would frequently speak different languages to each other just because it was funny to watch people get confused. I mean like one would speak French and then the other would answer in Japanese, or Spanish, etc.
@KazamaKazuyoshi458 Oh no, is not about that, in Law's ending he gets the ownership of Mishima Zaibatsu and he makes a party to celebrate. Leeroy and Lili were invited and in the party they were talking about business, Law watch them and wants to be part of the conversation entering in a cutting way saying "oh talking about rich things, let me be part of it", both Leeroy and "Daddy's little girl" stop talking for a few seconds before continue the conversation pretending nothing happened. Law feels rejected and leave them alone
Victor: it’s an honor to fight a real samurai Raven: But boss he’s no samurai! He’s just a dumbass with a sword! Victor: Quiet Raven the samurai wants to spar with me
God Devil Jin sounds so dope, reminds me of DIO with how he talks Which is interesting considering Jin’s VA voiced DIO in the JoJo fighting game, Heritage for the Future
Victor's Subtitles against Law and Reina are inaccurate... He says: "I hope you're not just one of those 'weak-spirited (weak-minded) incompetents'." Thing is in his Subtitles, "Common Knowledge" can be replaced by "Notoriety". He's basically saying "Being known doesn't mean you're good." Otherwise, I don't know: I just felt that peculiar subtitle choice didn't strike a good chord in me!
Only English audio is transposed word-for-word, other languages' subs are adapted with varying degrees of accuracy, some passable others borderline misleading. Guess budget for accurate translations wasn't even allocated, believing Google Translate could suffice 😏
After having learned Japanese for over a year now, even Japanese-speaking fighters have their subtitles mistranslated. For instance, the classic "I'll teach you to fear my wrath" is not what D. Jin really says. He says something like "I'll show you fear" or if I had to embellish it a little "I'l teach you the meaning of fear." 教える means both teach and show. So this has been going on for years, probably as far back as Tekken's conception. I wonder how the team goes about their localization?
I imagine it's intentional to get across the vibe of the characters a bit more clearly in localisation, rather than just 'bad translation'. Nuances in languages aren't exactly always clear when translating, especially with such a variety of them like Tekken has. It could also be that what's being done is the Japanese script/subs are what's been localised, so it's a sort of double-up of translation from one language to Japanese then to English. They're not exactly mistranslations as much as they are localisations. Victor, for example, seems a lot ruder in his subtitles than what he's saying French based on my rusty knowledge, but that's probably done to get across that Victor is MEANT to be quite a curt, sharp-tongued guy who's dismissive of most people.
0:41 The subtitles didn't do justice to their lines. It should've been "Shut up. That's my line". (I'm no Japanese expert but I've watched enough anime to know it.)
Another thing Asuka’s localization doesn’t is capture her Kansai-ben. It’s such an endearing part of her character because it emphasizes how she’s a country bumpkin among these global figures, but because of translation, it’s completely lost
"What's your excuse for losing this time?" the followup "Enough of your babbling!" is not exactly what she said. It was more along the lines of, "Shutup, that's my line!"
Is Bryan Fury canon to anything in storymode throughout the games? I always see him with unhinged endings, but never any actual plot related stuff with him
Yoshimitsu rescued Bryan from the Mishima Zaibatsu, but after being healed, Bryan killed all the people who saved him, including some members of Yoshimitsu's Meiji clan. There is more to it, I recommend a video called the Insane Lore of Tekken for more info. For instance Bryan is actually a cyborg lmao
@@TheChilaxicle thank you for the clarification I wasn’t 100 percent sure when I said Dr B I just remember him always being good friends with Yoshimitsu and because of that Tekken 4 ending you know
@@TheChilaxicle It was both. Dr. Abel rebuild him as a cyborg. Dr. B install a perpetual motion engine into him. That is also when he killed a bunch of people from the Meiji clan, which cause Yoshimitsu's beef with him.
Raven: YoU'rE nOt A rEaL nInJa, YoShImItSu!!!1!!2!! The cooler Raven (Victor): OH A SAMURAI can I get your autograph after this? Master Raven: Why is Shaheen on the roster over literally anyone else, even my waste of slot ass?
This video could benefit from subtitles the ones in the game ate hard to read. Also disappointed Paul doesn't have a lone with Kazuya or Jin, both of which technically stole tournament wins from him
paul went flawless victory in 3 lol even bodied ogre then left like a boss instead of sticking around... it is kinda lol tho that jin gets the credit just cause he beat true ogre
@protocetus499 I suggest you actually look up tekken 3a cannon ending... Paul beat everyone.... he beat ogre then left then ogre turned into true ogre and jin beat him
Why are the French translations always slightly skewed in translation?(´-∀-`; ) Like "Have you prepared an excuse for when you lose?" is written as "What's your excuse for losing this time?" [0:36] They might say something similar but the connotation is _pretty_ different- f(^ー^;
My guess is that the original script is written in Japanese. So there are two translations: one from Japanese to French, and one from Japanese to English. The teams doing these are likely different, hence the differences.
ok i got questions (as someone who hasn't tuned into the story for a WHILE): * why does paul have a karen cut? * zafina is giving me more MK vibes then tekken...intentional? idk. * Victor hot, who is he? * NINAAAAA~
Zafina is loosely tied to soul caliber, at one point she had a few of viola's moves but she's not as tied to it as yoshimitsu who has a piece of soul edge and soul caliber.
