Most frustrating thing has the been the community response to the whole thing. So many people talking about “you are not entitled to a re-match”. While i don’t disagree with the sentiment, the fact of the matter is MAJORITY of people not giving rematches is to retain points or because their Ego can’t take a loss. Tekken community is allergic to calling a spade a spade.
I don't rematch on ranked unless I am confident I can win. There is no reward in ranked for rematching someone. That is the game's fault, not the player's. Also, the way the points are given out are complete BS, nonsensical, and random. Wanna git gud by rematching? Play quick play. We didn't make the rules, the game devs did
Calling a spade a spade here is kinda funny given you are arguing from analogy. You demonstrate cognitive dissonance and allow your personal bias towards people not rematching you be dictated by what you PERCEIVE to be an ego loss. "So many people talking about 'you are not entitled to a re-match "... this would infer that "MAJORITY of people not giving rematches" are following this sentiment for their own personal reasons, but most likely as you claim, you are not entitled to a rematch.
@@user-by6eb6zo7g no but youre still a pussy for leaving lol, yea maybe u got busy but i really, really doubt the 500 azucena, victor, king, feng, and drag mains all had a call in from work.
They should give a little bonus rank to the winner of a full set. Meaning if you make it to game 3 the winner gets maybe 100 additional points. That way people are encouraged to stay.
@@nigelstanford4 Not in my experience, but different experiences may vary so I won't say that that doesn't happen. Something should incentivize both players ideally I guess.
@Unknownengima0 I've done that 1 time and it was a feng who ki charged and demoted me second game I won ki charged ranked up and left. The guy deserved it imo.
@@phriscalmer8740 ki chargers and teabaggers are different. They are in the same league for me as laggy people. They get no rematches whether i win or lose. They give no respect, they get none.
I blame the devs for making it only 1st to 2. Most competitive mindset people want to play a good opponent for longer, instead of sifting back through disconnection rates.
The manners in tekken are insane. People get insanely pissed if you land one low hit and start spamming lows in the orange ranks, then in the red ranks they ALWAYS try to kick you after the round ends. But if you do the same to them? Good god, you think you’d killed their beloved pet the way they lose their shit
I find this to be so common with grabs too. If you land a grab mix-up, I find very often the opponent will start spamming throws back. This happens so frequently that I've found it's easy to predict and just start punishing them for trying to throw me lol
@@kyleannen731 I love it when they do that. I'm always surprised by how rarely people throw. How am I going to practice teching if people won't throw unless they're king? I throw all the time. It's good for you.
@@garymichalles8383 months into a games life I will have those moments, and naturally my reaction is to try and "cement" the idea so I end up doing the thing tons in that match. Honestly I don't know why more fighting games don't take a note out of Killer Instinct's book and just force the best of 3 if you're in a ranked setting. Gold vs Killer or Killer vs Killer matches require one player to win two matches before they get any points. I'm a firm believer that this should be a standard going forward for all ranked modes, without limiting it to high ranks. Specifically because of this issue; the system calls you out for being a fraud if you can't adapt.
@@sky-oq5mr literally every other ranked system in other genres forced you to play a full match. A match in Valorant can be 40 mins but people don't complain cause they understand it's ranked and u should have the ability to come back but in FGs for some reason in ranked we act likeyou can just leave whenever and run gimmicks like it's no biggie. You should have to run the set
Losing is part of the fun, because then you can learn. Rank systems add this layer of intensity where people focus solely on the climb and are TERRIFIED of the fall, which is part of growing as a player, and even a person, in any setting. You gotta fail before you fly, but these fighting games with ladders inherently tell players they're bad or it's bad to lose through negative reinforcement and people with Max's mentality become the exception, not the rule, which flies in the face of fighting games as a whole.
And if you'd remove the ladders, the people who derive actual thrills and pleasure from putting in the work and watch their rank rise are punished. I really don't know what you can do to square this circle.
It was definitely shocking going from Street Fighter 6 where in my 500 hours I've only had 2 people in Ranked that I can remember that quit out before the set was over because they were on the brink of death; then going to Tekken 8 and it happens all the time, and NO ONE rematches.
@@Dragonborn1178 how is not rematching plugging lol. why should you get forced to play another set where you know you will get stomped and not learn anything.
yup sums up my experience, i had a dude literally plugging then going on my steam profile to call me racist slurs just cuz i was playing king.. theres so many angry players on tekken ranked actually nuts lol
I think a way to solve this is to incentivise people to run the set back rather than just one and doneing, whether that's higher Tekken Prowess awarded for completing a 3 match set or higher reward points for the Battle Pass Missions. I don't know.
@@lucas-xf7rc I dunno I agree that some people who are just sore losers will quit no matter what, but the sting of loss isn't as bad if you keep in the back of your mind that you're getting rewarded with something.
@@KiddCrowley I suppose that could help, but I think that this "Boom" of quitters is more about the unwillingness to learn how to be good, rather than it is about the rewards you can get. If a person doesn't want to put in the time to learn how to get decently good at the game, that's fine, since it can be quite time consuming. However, knowing how to take a loss is something that game Devs can't teach...
@@lucas-xf7rc you take the loss.... not rematching isnt the same as plugging. They just dont want to get destroyed by someone thats lives and breathes the game again for that persons enjoyment.
Lol I play fighting games to just kick people and survive as long as I can. I can win, lose, or draw. I don't be caring too much if they spam, troll, or pick a "top tier" character. I just enjoy understanding patterns and having fun with the character I like.
Man draw is really fun in 8. I had my first draw in ranked playing against very good Nina, she won the first and the second a draw in the final round like three seconds left and then two more games again, damn. Its more impactful in this game for sure
That issue is essentially gone, I never match with high disconnection rate. I haven't been plugged on since they fixed that display since i dont accept people with high disconnection rates. You should move on to the next issue, as this shouldn't be happening anymore.
When playing in elite smash, i faced a guy playing as sonic. He would hang around the edge, constantly charging his rolling attacks, and just wait for you to approach. The moment you get hit off stage, he would use his spring to try and gimp your jump and kill you. If he got up by a stock, he would RUN AWAY for the rest of the match, to time you out. Oh, and he would set the timer to the shortest possible. It was infuriating. I happen to get him again a couple matches later, but this time i got up by one stock. So i gave him a taste of hos own medicine and avoided him the whole time. But just before the match ends, he quits...so i dont gain any points...yeah he was blocked after that
During the Brawl days, I ended up accepting a team match with three people I'd been interacting with online for months; seemed like a good idea at the time. What I didn't expect was that any time my teammate and I were about to win, one of the two others would DC. It's something to DC on strangers you'll never meet, but in friendlies against folks you will generally run into again ? I actually didn't believe it at first, but after the third time in a row, there was little mistaking it. The guy in question was very toxic when he did win, as well. Still confuses me to this day, nobody was spamming or anything either, pretty basic matches all around. Other adjacent story, brought Melee to a party that one time, ended up having to leave for a few hours so I could only play a match against this guy I'd known for a few years before I had to go. Ended up winning, but not by a lot, cool match. Didn't want to boast so I kept it low key, and then left the Gamecube behind until I got back since they had nothing else planned and all. Turns out while I was away, the guy ravaged my controller (see the plastic making the joystick round ? He clawed that shit off, very thoroughly might I add) . A friend later told me he was enraged for a good while because I didn't, and he quoted, "celebrate enough for managing to beat him".
The part Max mentioned not wanting to beat up noobs hit ya boy with the offline nostalgia unlock. Bitd would legit rather someone straight stomping me than roll people who were inexperienced. It'd take 2 rounds at the arcade and I'd have to bow out cause I wasnt gonna take their coin or waste mine. And if it was a friend, at the house, who I'd want to have fun, would legitimately give self a handicap (often without mentioning) just to make it close and hype up their play. Then slowly add in stuff, but tell em "Hey you see when I do this? Hit that button there." and then tell em I shouldnt have told them that as I continued to be punished by them. A few even got interested to pursue getting better afterwards and legitimately got good to whip up on me. Know this is mostly a casual perspective but that's 90% of what FGs should feel like for those coming into it. Online makes it a lil less personal now because you're not there next to em, but it's great to have cells of communities that still do that. Not every intention will hit, but who knows, that one casual that does vibe with it might turn out to be the next hardcore FGC bro that pays it forward.
It's really hard as a brand new fighting game player to push through all the bullshit and BM online. I keep training and going in online because I enjoy the learning process, but all the rude players online definitely make it hard. I just hope I can get good enough to go head to head with those who actually want to play the game, not just win, by the time all the bad actors leave.
For me it's annoying when people just disconnect mid game, it just ruins the game man (be ready for a challenge if you want to play online and don't ruin the game for other players like me smh)
I'm more okay with that than a person who dips regardless if they win or lose, because a rage quit is still a win on your end imo A one and done is a refusal to engage beyond how THEY play, and I respect that less than a person effectively conceding victory to you via plugging A plugger makes me laugh, a dipper makes me question why they're even in rank
The only time I ever plug in any kind of fighting game if somebody has a shitty connection I don’t mind people if the connection isn’t perfect but when you’re sitting there and you feel like you’re playing in mud and mashing buttons, thinking you’re cool no that’s when I draw the line
@@Dasaltwarrior What is the rematch setup like in tekken8? I havent actually played it yet so dont have the full context. In my case, I play a lot of gg strive these days, and in that game you can rematch up to two times before it backs out both players to the lobby. For me in strive, I generally rematch those 2 games. But a lot of times after the game sends us back to the lobby, I look for a new opponent instead of fighting the same person. This is because I often treat ranked mode like a tournament scenario, where I don't get a ton of time with the same person and have to adapt quickly. If I want repeated matches Ill go to non-ranked. If the tekken 8 situation that people are describing is like pol dipping after 1 game in strive, then I can see how that'd be annoying.
Basically hes explaining the mindset of the modern age gamer.. only interested in 'stunting' on people and pretending to be 'da best' they arent actually interested in becoming amazing , its all about how quick can u look like u own people .. and if they dont get that from any experience they will quit quicker than how quick their attention span is. Honestly it just makes me want to go offline and just play classic games for the rest of my life
Recently I played a match against a Lars and lost. The guy refused the rematch and added me in a group chat called “OWNED” which was full of people he’s one and doned. Every now and then he’ll send a clip to it saying “lol look how I destroyed this guy” and more often than not, it is always the last round with one hit to take it for either side
sounds like 96 percent of the FGC most players are scum and brag about Victories they won underhanded they don't deserve their rank you can tell the difference between a player who actually plays Fighting games as oppose the majority of the community who look up cheats on youtube and then look for broken exploits. basically fighting games have always this large group of fake fighters who claim they are good but when they get pressured like Max mentioned they refused to adapt these players are one trick ponies
Take comfort in the big possibility that they get VERY upset if they lose. If they're that toxic when they win, it's probably worse for themselves when they lose. Even if they don't show it, it's probably in their head, the best place for ego deflation.
@@AsukasSlaveyou'd probably RQ against a Miguel lol, maybe if you didn't one and done everyone maybe you'd figure out a way to stop their bullshit, but nah you'd rather just get those wins then complain when you lose.

omg THANK YOU for mentioning Smash, because i literally got hella burned out last night for the same exact shit and decided to take a break for a good while. If I had any local scenes and enough time in my life I would gladly ditch the online, but i have no other options. I'll stick to T8 for the time being, since at least I can practice every now and then.
I get being pissed when if ppl do a 1 and done on ranked. Its proper form to give them the rematch. Here's the thing though. Once you get to the blue levels, if you lose 3 ranked games in a row you lose 1k points on the 3rd game no matter the rank. Even below blue there's the fact that you lose the same amount of points to people ranked above you, and lose fewer points if you lose to ppl ranked below you. The biggest reason I'll skip rematches isn't even the opponent, its the stages. If I'm playing Kazuya, my big damage relies entirely on there being a wall. So if I get colloseum or whatever the tree place is, I don't get the wall. I don't have combos to get them close enough to the wall, so I gotta compromise by going for reset setups which I have very few of. And this gets even more infuriating when you're up against Dragunov or Lee who can just carry you to just shy of the wall from center stage off of their combos. In short, if I replay on those stages I am effectively handicapping myself. A lot of ppl in here talk about how you should just rematch to learn... but this ranking system doesn't encourage that.
best of 3 is just as dumb as 1 fight lol... oh boy... A WHOLE OTHER MATCH..... that changes EVERYTHING! smh. Ranked should be FT10 if you ask me if you lose 5/0 then you can leave if you want. If you're in ranked... and you quit after 2 wins, or like 1 loss and 2 wins.... and you play like this.... and leave after 2 losses....... then your rank is simply fraudulent. Your rank just does not represent your skill level..... It's inarguable. It's 2+2=4. If someone who played like this sat down for a 5 hour session, and hit nothing but rematch unless they lost 5/0 (or 10 games in a row if they won at all) they would lose no less than 5 ranks before that 5 hour session ended. They would be bumped down to whatever rank represented their skill.....
@@cosmosofinfinity i don't care what they agree with, i'm not buying microtransactions. i want the netcode to not be ass, i want to be able to play more than 5 minutes at a time before having to requeue and filter through 8 wifi matches before getting a hardwired.
And this is why I NEVER play online as a whole, especially with fighting games. I am perfectly fine playing against an actual friend IRL or CPU. The toxicity of the online community is absolutely disgusting.
@@shatteredteethofgod Honestly? I'd just go with the flow. My own flow, that is. I'm casual as casual can be, so better not expect too much of a fight against me. lol
One thing that gets to me is when my opponent beats me, rematches me, then quits if I beat them, effectively leaving the set 1-1 Honestly grinds my gears more than a one and done
One issue I have with a “jail” matchmaking is that on the one map Fallen Destiny (or whatever it is called, the one in the middle of a storm at the ocean) I consistently get a fatal UE error that kills the game that I’ve tried so many fixes for and none work. Like quitting sucks but I don’t think there is a way to differentiate someone closing the game and it crashing so people could get the “bad apple” matchmaking through no fault of their own. It’s honestly the main reason I personally wasn’t playing much outside of player matches with friends cause I don’t want to start loading into a match and see that it is basically on a timer cause the random map we got is going to inevitably crash my game. I’m pretty sure it is an AMD issue but I don’t know and since the last time I played it wasn’t fixed.
AMD user here, and I have had absolutely no issues with the game or it crashing on me. This might sound harsh, but if a "jail" exists it exists to isolate the problematic players, then anyone should be included if they're crashing or disconnecting that much in ranked. Hope the problem gets sorted for you with a patch soon, tho.
I don't think he's talking necessarily about pluggers... he's talking about people just quitting after 1 or 2 games. If I get a straight disconnect I can't really be angry because there are so many reasons that could happen other than plugging..... However, when I'm in a match and they win the first, then I win the second in a very close great game... then they just scroll down to "next opponent" or "quit" or w.e it is..... there is nothing fuckin worse to deal with in a fighting game.
As the noob being stomped, this is why I want surrender buttons in fighting games. I will not rage quit, but if I'm completely outclassed, I don't want to wait to look for a fellow noob I might stand a chance against.
then keep rematching, it's the only way to get better. I won't play tekken anymore because of the reason max is talking about... I stopped playing a few years ago because of this exact reason. But I AM playing MK1 now, and I'm playing people online who aren't great so I bug my friend every day to play because he can fuckin absolutely MOP ME 100-0 ATM..... but if I keep playing him he'll only mop me 100-10 and barely anyone else who plays his character would even have a fuckin chance against me. If ur being stomped then figure out why... adapt... Look for what ur getting hit by... then wait for them to do it again and try something you think might beat it.... and if that doesn't work... try something else until you find the answer... Once you do find the answer though, they'll just quit on you. 😅
100% Feel the exact same way! They need to do a 5 round test run. 5 rounds offers enough time to adapt and mount comebacks. I also believe it will slow down the matches. Cause who wants to be down 3-1 or 4-0. Plus those comebacks would be epic to experience.
I've ran into so many one & done players on T8 recently. It only seemed to ramp up when Eddy Gordo got added. You'll run into players spamming his strings, and once you figure them out, they'll leave after you beat them.
It sucks, because Tekken takes longer to learn and adapt over a set than other fighting games in my experience, so for it to have the most toxic culture of a JP fighting game hamstrings it quite a bit I feel Like I've had cheaters, 1 and dones, and rage quits in SF6, but I learn so much quicker, AND get matches quicker that it doesn't matter
People are obsessed with winning in Tekken or fighting games in general, because that's the only progression they see. Sure you unlock fight money for costumes, but there aren't that many items in the game so you do it pretty quick and the battle pass sucks. Fighting games really need to take a page from CoD. A lot of ppl don't care whether they win or lose, they just want to unlock camos. Fighting games need a camo like grind or just other modes besides ranked and casual. So even if a casual isn't winning they can't have fun and feel like they are progressing in some way while playing.
You had the Conqueror mode in Tekken 5 that was exactly for that. Each character that you played in that mode would rank up like in an online ladder mode, and each level unlocked customization for that specific character. It was a pretty fun way to learn each character too since it would get actually rough at the last levels.
The opposite problem can be just as annoying. Like you'll play someone and beat them maybe four or five times but it's like as soon as they beat you they just want to leave. Like damn you really just have to keep winning if you want to keep playing this person.
Generally, I think the best way to fight this problem is to simply allow players to see their opponents name, character, connection, and disconnect percentage and then let them decide if they want to play. Super simple, allows people to dodge characters they would DC against, allows everyone to see the rage quitters and avoid them, everyone's happy. Smash has the absolute worst online community. It wasn't always so bad, Smash 4 was good, but when Ultimate came out with the point system, just ruined everything. Almost everyone in Ultimate is a campy, rage quitting one and doner, its hilariously sad. Really makes me think the only thing that works for Smash players is hiding your ELO/rank whatever.
Take out seeing the character, and this is a good idea. People shouldn’t be punished for picking a character. Strong or not. That’s something that’s just in the game and you the player have to adapt to it until they change it.
@RanOutOfSpac I used to think that, but now I think it's a good compromise. I saw it work in Guilty Gear Strive, that's what changed my opinion. Ultimately, people not wanting to play with certain characters is a non issue, because if they hate them that much, then they are very likely to rage quit on them anyways. It saves time to simply allow dodging.
All this rank problem is frustrating to me. Not just because I want more opportunities to learn not just character match ups and individual playstyles, but because I know those that are chasing points are trading short term gains for long term losses. Sure, they'll rank up quickly now... but let them get high enough to fight people that know what they're doing. If they're not going to take the time to learn the game as they rank up, I doubt they'll do it when they plateau. So it creates a frustrating online experience. I feel like I'm waiting for the rank chasers to quit playing, as they probably will long term.
IDK how these people look at their rank and feel any sense of accomplishment AT ALL.... people who do this have fraudulent ranks..... If they were to sit for 5 hours without quitting at all in ranked they'd lose 5 ranks within 3 hours and completely end the experiment and break their controller.... punks...... It's why I quit playing tekken... a game that has 5000+ different moves in which you have to know when the string ends... if it's negative 11 or negative13 to punish correctly, or if it ends in a high that you can duck.... having people quit after 1 or 2 matches just makes the game unplayable... ACTUALLY unplayable.. I love tekken... I think it's fun... I want to get better at it... but I haven't even bought tekken 8 because of this issue.... I won't do it to myself...
It's why everytime I can send a msg with my matchmaking stuff in games it's "I hope we can both improve!" I don't really care as much about who wins or lose, I wanna try to do cool shit with my character and show off what I've learned - and sometimes get absolutely bodied by someone who also is showing off what they learned.
I remember when the game first dropped everyone was playing full sets. Even got friend requests from having good fights. Now its like a rare thing to play the full set in either quick match or ranked.
I got my fun out of Tekken 8. Great gameplay, but after awhile the over-tuned top tier characters/moves and a complete lack of a system to handle quitting just burns me out on the experience. I'd still rate it highly as I got plenty of hours out of it, just being honest with why I stopped. Went back to Street Figher 6 and enjoying it greatly again.
Yeah, that’s pretty much what most pro players are saying as well dude there’s so much mashing online as someone who is an average player not a super pro in Tekken seven the mashing in the new game is crazy the older games I could play strategic and tech and eight I feel like I’m dealing with some child pressing buttons or playing on casual mode or just throwing out random things and random rage moves
@@Dragonborn1178 I don't mind players mashing. But I don't like I am essentially doing 50/50 casino when I am backed against a wall or corner. It's particularly egregarious especially against characters like Dragunov, Eddy, King, etc.
since its hard to decermine who quit, they should do something similar to the behaviour score from dota2. you start with a perfect score of 100%. every time a disconnect happens, both players loose points, every game that is played in full recopers your score a bit. the matchmaking system tries to match people with similar behavior scores. people that occasionally face quitters recover their scores, while the quiters score sinks further. it should be a bit more finegrained than that explanation, but thats the gist of it.
he's tlaking about people who play one match then click next opponent instead of rematch.... plugging is different... when someone disconnect you can't really know if they did it on purpose... Max is talking about people who play 1 or 2 games then quit because they know they can't use their shitting gimmicks and your lack of character knowledge against you if they keep rematching.... When I play someone who is obviously not a good player, and they beat me in the first game because they use one of the 1000's of gimmicks in tekken that anyone who isn't a 10 year legacy player won't recognize and figure out right away, then play again and win again in a very close match... they will quit because they know that if they keep playing they'll never win another game if they rematched 500 times.
I totally agree. With tekken 8 making it so that you can only do a ft2 it makes it all the more frustrating when people win/lose quit on you. It makes sense to force a ft2 but then if there is lag detected to a significant level the players should be able to back out obviously. It’s all such a tricky thing to figure out
Mortal Kombat Quitalities are the BEST answer to Ragequitting. Not winning anything because you finally adapted to the teabagger who ragequit while funny is still bad. You should always be rewarded for literally staying in the game. It just sucks that the engine sometimes can't tell who ragequit if both sides have bad wifi and that goes for a lot of games.
I super appreciate you saying that people with bad connections dont need to be put in plugger jail. Im rural and have the best internet that is available for my area. When tekken 8 came out i kept having issues with disconnect and just had to stop playing out of fear of being lumped in with rage quitters. While my connection is now more stable i have an issue where the game wont let me rematch around when i get to warrior rank. It just completely kicks me out of online after the error code.
I fully agree. This game makes me rage like no other. I learn almost nothing getting gimmicked every game with no rematch when I finally win 1. I also love the idea of best 2 out of 3 instead of 1 win and an option to leave
Not everyone one and dones because they lost. Some ppl (like myself) will not rematch if the connection is wonky. It may say 5 bars when you accept, but then the connection begins dropping terribly or maybe they're glitching the game to drop the framerates (there's an exploit on this) or something of that nature. So I personally don't think that would be a good stat to measure whether you want to fight the next person or not 🙂
not even necessarily talkign about pluggers... just talking about people who play 1 or 2 or 3 close matches then just quit.... It's the most frustrating thing I've ever run into... I love tekken... but I stopped playing it years ago because of this. For instance, in tekken 7 there were like 50 or more characters which means there was FIVE THOUSAND MOVES..... how can you learn match ups and get better at the game in a game with 5000 moves when people leave after 2 close matches... it's fuckin ridiculous and unplayable.... I won't even buy tekken 8 because of this reason and I actually want to play it! But I just can't with this community, I simply can't.
@@admontblanc that won't help with playing against real people... Going in the lab and labbing everything sure... but that's impossibly boring especially with that many characters and moves.
if i lose to a certain flow chart, after the best of 3, i lab it immediately in training mode or watch the replay to figure it out if its unsafe or when to duck or crouch etc.
i try not to care when my opponent leaves after one match, but i do love mirror matches and i would love to keep fighting in a mirror match. recently ppl just leave. it makes me sad.
Wait I thought there was a PC test when you start tekken 8? I vaguely remembering getting a score for it. I think it's more that people aren't adjusting the settings right?
Pluggers situation get worse as the higher ranks you go (Currently at about Kishin). I thought that as you climb higher people would be more incline to play the game honestly (not plugging and following through with the best 2 out of 3). I also want to call out the Tekken 8 ranking system kind of encourage people to not follow through with the 2 out of 3 matches more at the higher ranks because they made the rank point gain system in a way that you need to be on a win streak to rank up in the higher ranks. So if someone wins/lose a close match, it does make sense to not gamble on a close match, but rather so find someone to stomp on just to get the win streak just to be able to climb.
The problem with Tek8's rank mechanic is it's been completely scrubified. 9/10 fights I have with red and purple ranks don't have them use more than a single juggle all match, they just abuse overtuned character BS they saw on RU-vid and they're able to climb into high ranks with ease. It's a joke when compared to previous Tekkens.
seeing players with God of Destruction ranks with 30 defense rating because they did what you said is what makes ranking up in this game not feel satisfying at all.
Your first mistake was assuming players at high ranks are actually skilled and honest. Tekken 8 was made to carry braindead morons. I'm currently Kishin with Jin and it's *rare* when you fight someone who isn't overly dependent on heat/RAs and actually puts thought into the match. Rank is basically a facade in this game.
The problem with locking someone in a first to 3 is that sometimes people have shit to do. I’ve had great matches that I couldn’t continue because something came up. I shouldn’t be penalized for that, because my only recourse in that situation would be to turn my console off instead of ending the match cleanly.
Terrible justification. If you have to leave mid set, leave with your game still going. Shit happens, you lose a couple points. Or quit out. If it’s once in awhile you won’t be penalized. Go the extra mile by messaging your opponent when you have a chance. But if you’re consistently too busy to AT MOST have 9 minutes of your time taken (3 rounds, 60 seconds each, best two of three) then another solution for you, don’t play ranked. Your life’s schedule isn’t important enough to ruin ranked for everyone else my dude.
I don't do this anymore but whenI started playing Tekken 8 i had never played a fighting game online before and didn't realize this was bad manners. I one and doned because my wrist was absolutely fucked after a single match until I swapped controllers.
At the GSP I sat at in Smash I had very few issues, didn't play a whole lot online because the whole experience does need some work, but it really doesn't differ from any other game in terms of the BM and general attitude of players. If anything Tekken 8 has been 100x worse than my Smash experience
The most casual games being Tekken, MK and Smash having the most one-and-dones, or BM in general, makes sense. Many casuals have the wrong mindset and hop online to get a quick dopamine rush like in many other genres. And in those it's mostly defined by "winning". Having a healthy, competitive relationship with FGs requires a different one though which is finding the fun in the little things you manage to do in a match and discover new things about your character. But those tend to get overshadowed when you only look at the bigger goal of winning.
Yeah, even SF6 had this issue on release when the casuals jumped into ranked after world tour. I hope it will go away soon. Probably around mid summer we will have to core Tekken fanbase that’s not mentally weak to seeing “you lose”
Worth Noting that if the person one and doning is a casual (and it is not always) , this isn't necessarily because of the L. Many casuals just aren't aware that there is a such etiquette in the FGC and just want to fight a bunch of different people. I didn't think about it myself before I started watching FG videos (thankfully I don't really play online anyway, so I didn't cause too much trouble) , and when I told a friend playing SF6 online that he should rematch, he just went "hey, that makes sense, never thought about it" and started rematching. In fact, it's especially likely if they don't particularly care about the L, they don't really care to find out who is the truly without a doubt the best between them and the random person they're fighting online. Guess the best thing to do is to get the information out there in a way that it will be seen by the most people.
It's the 1v1 factor. In team based PVP or PVE games, you can have a bad match and still get carried by your team to a W, or vice-versa. It could be you picking up the slack from your teammates. In fighting games, it's always personal.
This is just andecdotal, but as a casual player idk if I agree that's the source. I've played a lot of Guilty Gear: Strive, which as far as I know has a pretty big casual audience, and people will ALWAYS rematch until the end, a lot of the time even coming back for extras after they lost. The only exception being if it was super uneven, but even then often they will come back for an ass kicking. Now part of the reason is probably that the ranking system is less punishing (until you get to max rank), but I'll get so many one-and-dones after THEY WON, even if it wasn't a super close match. As for other BM like teabagging and shit talking, it happens but is still very rare, much rarer than in Tekken 8.
Thank you for bringing this up Max because I literally was in another RU-vid video comment section saying the same thing about why even play a fighting game if you were going to have a poor Sportman mentality and then be entitled about saying that you do not owe another person to rematch and how are you supposed to learn to get better if you were avoiding the characters that you hate to fight so much.
my BIGGEST Problem is the crashing, Fallen Destiny & Into the Stratosphere ALWAYS crash mid match (PC), and before the dumb comments, YES, MY MACHINE CAN RUN THE GAME JUST FINE, 2k maxed out solid 60FPS, but those f***ng stages crash guaranteed
Didn't Harada say something recently about how todays generation of players don't have the competitive spirit that older generations had. This could be just how todays youth be.
And his generation doesn't have the love and compassion for video games they once did. They try to milk us with all these battle passes and microtransaction
@sky-oq5mr and it works Just like with dlc 10 years ago We spoke with our wallets....and we paid for it People now accept dlc as the norm.look at the amount of reaction hype big and small channels do for new characters
I've honestly already sold my tekken 8 copy. The fact that you cant even deathmatch IN QUICK PLAY is a major red flag and shows that they're pandering to the casuals who only want to boost ego and not actually get good at the game and the minute I win with a character they dont like fighting they just leave. To many problems i'll stick with playing smash melee, ultra sf4, umvc3, mvc2 and other games that actually have players that want to fight not just cheese and run.
To be honest, I totally don't care if people quit after they win the 1st match... It's their choice and I do respect it. The game also allows it. It's not like we have to wait a long time (like in T7) to find another match. Hovewer rage quitters are totally annoying and deserve to loose the points and be banned if they repeat it.
Can’t believe there’s people in the comments pretty much saying they’re entitled to a rematch. I get that it’s annoying when people don’t want to rematch but people have other things to do too.
@@basedmarlon nobody is entitled. But how is it that "people have other things to do too". As if they aren't immediately re-queueing. What a lousy defense.
Facts. Ban the godamn pluggers. I've stopped playing because of this issue. One and done aren't shit. Pluggers have literally ruined the experience. It's sucks.
@@martijn2973tbh it doesn't even matter what they're doing, if they don't want a play a person for whatever reason they don't have to, sure they're pussies or whatever but who cares?
For casual, ya who cares if you leave after one match. We are playing damn ranked here, so your ass should be ready to play the set. We are playing for silly rank points, and I want my silly rank points. Imo, points should only be given to the person who wins the set, not a round. And I dont give a fuck if you have something to do in five minutes so you dont want to be forced to play a set. Simply dont play ranked. If you chose to play ranked matched, YOU ARE GOING TO PLAY THE SET FOR YOUR POINTS! And that is how it should have been, but oh well, the player’s pizza might burn or something. We cant have such a thing
I honestly noticed that the higher ranks I went up in Tekken, I found myself stuck with single matches with no rematches or people using the "no contest" system during the first match if things don't go their way. It definitely has been a pain to play especially when I want to get better.
that's because those scrubs don't belong that high up in the ranks, their rank is completely fraudulent.... How they can look at their rank with any pride AT ALL is beyond my capacity to understand. 1 match punks... 2 match punks..... just simply punks.
I feel that this game, like many other games that have ranked, have people so beholden to their position that of they would do anything to mitigate loss. I agree that there should be more stringent rules to abide by in rank to differentiate from casual matchmaking.
Self dignity/respect should regulate this.... It's actually sad that it doesn't. How these people can rise through the ranks to like.. say red rank... and think their skill actually represents a red rank skill..... If they were to play in ranked for 5 hours and be forced to never quit..... even putting a cap at a 0/10 loss THEN you can quit... even capping the shutout loss like that if they played one 5 hour session like this they would IMMEDIATELY lose at LEAST 5 ranks..... And if they did... that would represent their ACTUAL rank.... How people don't understand this is beyond me.... Their rank is a fuckin fraud yet they quit after a close game not to lose their fraudulent rank... How can anyone be that person.... It's cringy AF
This is one of the reasons I prefer Mk1 over Tekken... because if you decide to rage then I get to post your Quitality across all socials so people can know who you are lol As well as having to receive my points...lol
Win or lose and believe me, I play Lars and I be getting my ass KICKED sometimes.... But I will ALWAYS REMATCH!!! Simply because I hate it when people one done me, like bro I just downloaded you, let me kick your ass now or they lose and leave, Like bro come get yo win back lol.
Im SOO glad you posted this video. Ive played Tekken 7 since S3 and tekken casually for years. Lack of rematching just because i won or came close to winning makes me want to cry.
you get more points if you don't rematch plus it's a bit quicker. my thing is why do I HAVE to rematch? What if I feel you had a super annoying playstyle? why should I continue to play against a lei who just attacks then lays down then low attacks then gets you into a string? I'm THROUGH playing people like that. Why should I play you again if you keep ki charging, taunting, spamming parries, and backtracking only to attack as soon as I take one micro step forward? that shit is ANNOYING. When I beat players like that I leave. On purpose. To piss them off for playing like stone cold bitches. I would NEVER give a Leroy a rematch. why should I give ANY azucena player a rematch? they just gonna spam harder now. NOPE. go spam somebody else.
@@suntansuperman598 to get better? I get it if u don't wanna rematch people who are toxic, but not replaying against characters you don't like it's dumb. Like what even is the point? To get more points, what do the points even do? Let you play against better players, better players that you won't be able to beat cuz you're ass at the game and got there by not actually learning.
it also makes ranking up excruciatingly painful, because people kept on 1 and doning me to get from tenryu to Mighty Ruler it took me 5 hours. Just because I would have to go back to waiting for more matches and not get bonus points for winning a set.
people dont play for fun . They play for ego . This world taught them that losing is bad and then youre the worst. But truth is the one who know how to lose is sometimes the real winner. its a part of the process . You cant have joy of winning if you cannot find joy in losing
I share in your frustrations Max. I don't give a shit anymore about playing T8 online. It's gotten too toxic. I've hit my platinum trophy which is the only reason i was trying to play ranked and the other modes in the first place just to chase my trophies, The pluggers and abuse you get from players just turned me off playing online. People whingeing about Eddy, whingeing about people refusing to give you a rematch, just whingeing about all sorts of shit.... it hasn't turned me off the game but it has turned me off playing online, I love T8 dearly I think bandai did a terrific job on it. but I won't play it online anymore. I just play Player vs. CPU now. At least the CPU won't plug on you and doesn't carry on like a baby if it loses... and playing the ghost AI is basically like playing a human anyway as it's essentially mimmicking your play style =)
I’m surprised people aren’t just doing this (playing solely the offline modes) to begin with. 😏 I never play online strictly because of crap like this. I personally don’t have the patience to deal with rage quitters. The whole point of Tekken (if not all fighting games for that matter) is to learn and adapt. I’ve always played against the CPU or a friend IRL. You can still have maximum enjoyment without participating in online ranking, unless you’re doing so for the achievements.
The fact that you mentioned this coming from me who's a blue rank playing with other (some undeserving) people who's gotten a blue rank or higher with the reality of my game existing of one-n-doners is actually sad. Like I can't comprehend why everyone can be this scummy online while I'm on the other end even if I lose or knowingly play a losing matchup or against a better player but want an opportunity to learn while other people are the polar opposite and brag about their ranks.
This is why the current rematch limit hurts so bad: you meet someone really interesting and then after 2 close matches it's already good bye? Come on! I never felt like the unlimited rematches in T7 were a problem and in return got me some really nice sets. Bring those back!
Your opener has reiterated why I've always said that Tekken was never a serious fighting game, it's ALWAYS been like this. I for one am glad that there is a Virtua Fighter ready to make its return in the making, the fighting scene has missed it BADLY. Let's get the proper fighting back, the one where you can't button bash and execute 70% of a character's move set or ever beat a pro player as a novice.
Yes! As a Xiaoyu player (Eightykakes, XBOX), I feel I have to naturally adapt on the fly anyway. So when people quit that second match, I feel robbed of an opportunity to see if my adaptation skills are adequate. It’s no salt, just frustrating. “Oh, I didn’t enforce XYZ and they mixed me with this but I know what I need to do and… oh, they quit”. 😐
Sf5 was not popular and niether was 4. Capcom straight up said those games almost put it out of business until monster hunter world came out and saved em
@@sky-oq5mr You're clearly making stuff up. SF4 sold over 10 million copies (all 4 versions added together) and single handedly made fighting games mainstream again, and SF5 sold over 7 million copies by the end of 2022 despite being a flop from 2016 to early 2018.
@@lukejones7164 stop making up stuff buddy. Sale numbers alone are completely irrelevant in fighting games. Sale numbers can get boosted by a successful franchise’s title like DBFZ, which also sold more than 10 million and then there were like 2 full lobbies (128 people) in every region after a few months. Calling SF5 a massive success with any kind of gamers is a huge reach in itself.
@@ErmiGultro You are clearly in denial 🤣. Sale numbers ALWAYS matter in video games since they are the biggest sources for revenue in games besides post launch content. Capcom themselves acknowledged SF5 as a success in 2020, get real
I hate it to. I'm all about having a good fight and learning from experience. If I lose it just makes me wanna try harder. So many just wanna win even if it means spamming
Only times I don’t rematch: 1. Slideshow connection 2. Opponent’s rank is so much lower that I’d lose a massive amount of points if they just so happen to play a perfect game even though I’d only get like 90 for a win. Pretty sure I’ve only denied a rematch like maybe 5 times since launch.
Rage quitting mid fight I’m 100% against and it should be met with harsh punishment. However, while frustrating, I don’t feel that people owe me a rematch. Everyone’s got a life, you never know what’s going on in the real world.
Thank you for explaining and having me understand how players like me (one and done) can be annoying, but I CAN say I love the 2 outta 3 mechanic Tekken 8 has. I no longer one and done, I'll smack the rematch button knowing I'll really be here with this one opponent for only 3 matches, not stuck in a rematch loop fighting the same guy🤣
This is my first Tekken game (I'm 20 and I've been a fighting game fan since I was a kid, growing up playing Mortal Kombat, Smash, Street Fighter, Injustice, and even played Pokken), and with the short amount of time I've had with the game, I've had probably 3/4 of my opponents refuse to rematch me. And when I'm a complete noob to this game getting 75% of my health taken by an online Jun in one unbreakable string and that person refuses to do a rematch, it kinda boils my blood. It's like you said, Smash is the same way, but in my opinion it's worse in this game because the game actively has a Best of 3 mechanic. In Smash you can rematch the same person to infinity and lose everything. In Tekken, the worst you can lose is two matches. Even worse that it's happening at ranks where you cant even lose your rank, like what would it hurt to just do a rematch, you lose nothing except your time and gain everything by winning bro. Still loving my time though, and hopefully this becomes less of an issue as the game's life continues (though somehow I doubt it)
The only time I dont rematch is when the opponent is just trying to troll me and not actually play the game, or if the connection is just unplayable of course, if someone doesnt rematch after losing I just mutter "coward" and move on lol
Instead of actually helpful updates that address issues, we need more monetization and Bamco taking down mods. Current Tekken 8 is genuinely frustrating.
I've always been a fighting game fan. I've just never knew where to find all the intricate data, or which combos to connect to others for longer strings ( I remember doing a bunch of googling at one point to just find mismatched information and gave up). So i'm just in this cycle of buying my favorites and letting them rust haha 😅
Courtesy should remain that, a courtesy. And if you don't get it, then so be it. Keep it pushing and go to your next match. You look worse than the person that leaves when you get butthurt about one and dones.
I'm having issues where the game kicks me to the main menu when both myself and my opponents hit rematch, and it says something about disconnection issues and kicks me to the main menu. I thought maybe my connection was acting up but everytime i check, my connection is always stable. Idk why it keeps happening.
This recently happened on one of Aruuu's Tekken streams. She was fighting someone, and then the person she was fighting quit. She was REALLY pissed off when that person quit.
I fought a Shaheen and the match was the Tekken I love. No spamming power crushing heat engagers. Just straight up making reads on each other. I won the first match using Claudio, he won the second match then I won the last match. All the rounds were close lol. Fun as hell
Apologies for not being professional at fighting games. Not everyone who plays fighting games are in it competitive. also 6:00 is not true at all. I bought the game just to play the story mode and to not play Tekken 8 online. I enjoy it for the content and not competitive.
@@RanOutOfSpac My point is I play the game offline period. I never buy fighting games for online play. Max is putting all casuals in one group that play online to not get better when most just play it to have fun and not to play it in some competitive way.
@@RanOutOfSpacyou often fight way better players than you in casual matches imo. I avoid casual matches like the plague. I’m not a plugger just throwing that perspective
Its not even about playing competatively. Its mostly about manners. If you win but 1 and done thats just rude. If you lose but 1 and done i think you should try again but i wont blame you. If you quit out mid match is where the problems lie.
@@rayjohnson863 He didn’t group all the casuals. He was just talking about the casuals that do play online. He also mentioned that the content that T8 has is what attracted the casuals in the first place.
