Thanks for the invite boys. Some fun facts for those of you who are listening to/watching the vid: [1] I had zero idea that I was going to be a part of this vid. Little Jay (the Asian one) asked if I was free to join a discussion and then bam! This was the result of that decision. :D [2] I may or may not have had a few beers in me at the time of this lil' shindig. [3] After the vid, I **immediately** called Tekton to make sure I didn't entirely botch the description of the tweeter array. The good news is that I got the core idea right. Low mass. Sound power. Easy integration with woofs. Honeycomb array designed for good vertical AND horizontal dispersion, distance of each driver being close to avoid comb filtering, etc. I just.. did a very poor job of relaying that info in the moment. To my credit, it's been over 2 years since I last riffed with Tekton about any of that stuff. Anyhoo - keep up the great work NBTS crew! You lil' f***ers. Let's do it again sometime! :D
Great insights, regardless. Good job. I love the raw unvarnished honesty which I see as your greatest strength. Beer or no beer. Thanks so much for taking the time to join.
I don’t see how the S400’s and DI’s or even the Pendragons can be compared. They’re all very different speakers, although as an owner of Pendragons, I’d love to hear more thoughts on the differences and similarities of the two pairs of Tekton speakers. Thanks for the vid. It was great to have Sean a part of the conversation.
Cool episode! I really enjoyed you having Sean from Zero Fidelity. I am a big fan of his channel, as well as yours! Hopefully I will be able to audition some Tekton speakers ib person. I really enjoyed the commentaries, thank you.
This was a very interesting video, I really enjoyed the Zero fidelity cameo, and will definitely be looking at trying out the Double Impacts. However, I am of the mindset that a good speaker should let you enjoy whatever music you like. Steve Guttenberg, mentioned falling into the audiophile trap of only feeding a speaker music that sounds good on it, which in my opinion doesn't speak favorably about the speakers. A good speaker yes will make you want to seek out better recordings, but not force you to change what you like. This is also keeping in mind that all of this involves a certain amount of alchemy with mating gear to speakers, speakers to room, room to application, etc. That said it sounds like the Double Impacts are a good speaker.
I do not think you guys understand what "disappear" means in audiophile speaker jargon. It has nothing to do with how obvious the speakers are by sight. It is talking about do they aurally disappear. Meaning can you tell the sound is coming from the speakers, are they boxy, does the cabinet interfere with the sound reproduction, and so on. A perfect speaker, when set up properly does not impart its presence into the music.
Funny you mention this because I thought the exact same thing! I was shocked none of them understood his question! How did all four of them not understand what he meant?
@@dontcare563 You're right and a good question,... why so slow on the pickup? Regardless, I like this. I'm digging the youthful fun approach, but is the 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘤𝘵 an attribute for us old guys and these young dudes simply need to get woke? ;) Of all the pleasures of audio, the disappearing act is up near the top for me. As is voluminous, three dimensional soundstage. At the very top for my money, is hi-res, low compression, 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘥𝘺𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘴.
Wow you all got Sean the Audio Expert Reviewer from ZERO FiDELITY disscussing The TDI speakers on your channel ! The Stereo-Bargin-File is impresssd ! Great job Guys , its a great time to be into HIFI !! 📀
Fellas....this was largely enjoyable., the main reason being was your enthusiasm, which when watching a RU-vid review is half the battle won. Nothing worse than a reviewer who makes you yawn 30 seconds in. What happens then? End of video!!! Maybe not as 'polished' on the video side of things (this time), but I'm don't expect million dollar productions like some comments I've seen around the traps seem to indicate. It's about content imo!!! Next time.....get the beers out and join Sean!!! And whilst you're at it...blast out some tunez and wake up the neighbours. That never grows old. 😺 Thanks!!!
That was great guys... The three wise men , Baby Jesus on the dashboard ,more in the background,🤘Sean.. Great review man!! Age appropriate music / great talking point. That counts.... Was great fun! Fantastic.👍. And , of course. Lol.✌️
For me it's very simple when choosing a speaker: Is there an emotional connection to the music where I can sit back and relax and nothing is nagging me. I'm not thinking bass, midrange, imaging, just lost in the musical experience.
If you close your eyes and the equipment meets AP minimum standards . The speakers should disappear. No matter how large or what color the speaker may be. I’m just say’en.
Hi Jay could you tell me why your personal preference would be the pendragons over the D Impacts cause I have a hard time choosing, and does a belyrium tweeter tilt the hights which i'm sensitive for or makes it even more balanced. My amplifier kinki ex-m1+ Please help me out
Did not like mine at all but Erik runs his business right so you have 60 day return period. Just cost me the shipping but that was better than being stuck with speakers that did not perform.
Double impact vs. focal electra 1038be. What if get the beryllium Tweeter upgrade on the Tekton? I guess it's not the same price point but is it worth saving up?
SO, i have up to $3,000 to spend. My ceilings in my basement listening room are only 6 feet hight. Think Double Impact would overpower a room like that? Is there another speaker in the price point that you think might be better?
Why the hell doesn't anobody review the Perfect SET or Set 15?Tha latter would be able to use low power amps and have the big 15" - I know that Alexander does not like 8ohm and prefers 4 ohm designs which many modern amps can run but again wish there was more attention to them as opposed to DI,Moab etc
People ask what's better because if you've never heard them and read\watch the reviews of course people will ask what's better. Minus the dick pre answer the answer Shawn gave was perfect. Now we know. Thanks!
Comparing the $ 3,000.00 Tekton Double Impact's to a $ 30,000 pair of speakers? why? With cars we may compare a Mercedes to a $20K Honda? well yes, some do and there's nothing wrong with that so long as a person realizes the two are like apples to oranges. are you guys trying to forward the idea that a consumer can come close to a $30, 000.00 pair of speakers by purchasing the Double Impact's? if so, then you should explain how close to the $30,000.00 dollar speakers the Double Impacts are! if you're going to say very close, then the Double Impacts would be a steal of a deal!!!!!
Technical question Jay? Did I just see a banner with Shawn from Zero Fidelity? Hmmmm, I always thought he was Sean. At least we know he's not shorn!! ***listening to a new album atm, back afterwards to hear his review. 😎
