In this video we take a look at restoring another DM502A from Tektronix. This has been a quite popular meter on the channel, Rightfully so as it is quite capable. I have a few examples of this in service on the bench. This unit however is for a viewer. Some times I get a few thing sent in to the lab to help spread some of the PPM’s around, and this is one of those times. So with that on with the Video.
** Repair exposes the Tech to mains electric and should only be done by trained personnel. Errors can be fatal. **

I enjoyed watching the soldering. Very relaxing. I have two of these units that need a refresh and calibration, so this video will be very handy.

When it comes to bipolar caps when i refurbish/repair vintage hifi stuff i usually use nichicon es series when i need BP cap. I'm not sure how well would they perform in measuring equipment but i guess they should do just fine. There are quite a lot of other bipolar caps from other manufacturers in mouser, digikey so i guess replacing that one if needed shouldn't be big problem.

The Nichicon ES series is a great replacement the meters as well as the AA501x series distortion analyses a have a few of them. in these devices they are in the AC signal path. If the need arises for a replacement an ES series cap would do quite well there.

Don't see many of these in the UK. I was considering making a multi-channel maybe 0-100v custom plugin for bench monitoring needs. it's mostly lowish voltages i need to measure when i need to do multiple simaltainious measurements

I always have a hard time telling the difference between the wet tantalum caps vs regular electrolytics.

Refurbish TM units and sell them to the UK. They are starved of the old Tek. Haha
