Thanks for putting this together. This is the same stuff KUSA was selling under their brand name. On my testing at 5200 feet altitude at 95°F I was getting velocities consistent with yours (2317~2447 FPS) and the accuracy was just as lousy out of a 16" Arsenal. It was 100% reliable and it's good long-term storage ammo. Decent "minute of man" accuracy. Keep up the great content.

@Feldmutze

If you're having issues with that many different types of ammo, it's more than likely there's an issue with your rifle itself. I'd check your firing pin for obstructions or damage. I had the same issue with this rifle a year or so ago and the firing pin had cracked in half and needed replacing.

That is not "3P" - "ЗП" mark in Russian stands for "Забракованные Патроны" or "Blemished/Rejected Ammo". This is why you are getting bad results with ЗП ammo.

@@Feldmutze the only two other options for "ЗП" could be запасные патроны (reserve ammo) or заводская проверка (factory checked) but I think it is most likely забракованные патроны (blemished ammo).

Totally typical for a stamped receiver AK, you need to find which ammo your rifle likes. However, the Tela will hit a torso @ 100 yards. If your trying for the tightest groups start with a milled receiver AK as they can do as good as 2" @100 yards.

So with the video and the comments it seems the ammo itself not just a few bad lots are not consistent. I was thinking of a 545 build since tela told me it should be dropping mid November but if it's 6+ MOA I'll just get a RD nato ak and go 556.
@Feldmutze
@Feldmutze 9 месяцев назад
Unfortunately it's not a good time to get into 5.45 so I think going 5.56 would be a much better option. I'll be testing Tela 5.45 when it comes out, but imo even if it fares better, it'd be a better idea to not have to be reliant on 1 manufacturer for all your ammo in case imports dry up again.
@abram1994ga
@abram1994ga 9 месяцев назад
My thought process exactly. Azerbaijan just doesn't seem like a reliable source long term anyway. Tired of riding the import roller coaster of here one day gone the next. If a manufacturer inside the US sourcing its own raw materials in the US I'd be more optimistic for 545. Wishful thinking at this point.

TelaAmmo had some lots that got corrosive primers mixed in. It's not something I ran into myself on the 7.62 x 39 or the 5.45 either, and it does seem like they fixed it on their newest production ammo, but it's definitely something to watch out for.

How come no one doing ammo tests ever measure for consistency? No shoulder measurements, no seating depth measurements no powder weights. I’ve never seen any ammo tester do that.
@Feldmutze
@Feldmutze 6 месяцев назад
It's not a bad idea to do consistency measurements in practice, but in a lot of cases, and especially this TelaAmmo, it's nowhere near precise enough to bother with, and most the inconsistency comes through on target anyway.
@albundy7459
@albundy7459 6 месяцев назад
@@Feldmutze but to understand the inconsistencies on target wouldn’t it be in good faith to explain why that happens? I’m not calling you out in anyway. It’s just something I noticed that can educate people on why ammo is good or bad and why the ammo is far more important than people actually think. I think it would greatly benefit those who don’t reload. It would also separate your channel from the rest.
@Feldmutze
@Feldmutze 6 месяцев назад
I can see that. I don't think I'd do that in every ammo test for the sake of brevity since these can have a lot going on in them already, but you brought up good points and I'm heavily considering doing an in-depth explanation of it once in a standalone video that I can reference whenever I do future ammo tests.

The way I always look at AK it’s like ok I’m not trying to win a marksmanship badge with it,, but it’s reliable and I can hit a target 🎯 with effectiveness out to what 300-400 yards,,and Azerbaijan holds a Formula one race every year so they at least have some money in the country…
@Feldmutze
@Feldmutze 7 месяцев назад
I can see that. The AK isn't a tack driver but usually has adequate accuracy. This TelaAmmo, however, being 7.3 MOA, is way larger than a torso-sized target at 300 - 400 yards though.

@Feldmutze 6 месяцев назад
That's actually slightly worse to what I was getting with Silver Bear. See 9:34. Wolf is just an importer. Depending on the actual manufacturer of the ammo (Tula, Barnaul, Vympel, etc.) it can vary wildly in precision.

Velocity is good but the accuracy in this AK is terrible. I own Polish and Chinese AK's and have owned many, many others from Romania, China (in both milled and stamped recievers), Polish, USA and Egypt. The best would shoot 1.75 MOA and all but 1 would shoot 3 - 4 MOA with most any given load. The exception was the Chinese milled reciever AK that had an oversized bore and would not stay on a 5 galon bucket at 50 yards regardless of the ammo chosen

Maybe they changed something with the ammo because when I shot it I didn't detect any abnormal smell, and the accuracy was really poor.
@Barreta72
@Barreta72 6 месяцев назад
@Feldmutze was definitely really good shot 200 rounds telaammo and 200 wolf classic wolf. Wolf was a little more accurate but was sub moa or 1 moa putting rounds thru paper and putting round after round in same hole I was surprised myself your always nervous around new ammo I also tested out some new magazines from zastava arms polymer magazines with bolt hold open. Shoot thru my zastava m70 so it pretty much chews up any ammo but wasn't sure about this but my ffl said they have not had any complaints so I told them I would run 200 rounds thru my AK and let them know. So I switched between wolf classic and telaammo to make sure cycling both went back in fourth shot 400 rounds and not one malfunction and wherever I sent it the ammo went just smell real bad after 200 rounds of it and 200 rounds of wolf. But cannot be picky whet ammo is scarce I will live with smell but I would say repackage old military rounds but age of ammo overrated I have shot 10 15 year old ammo and no performance issues. I was happy to be surprised did not expect to cycle ever round and be that on target.

Are you sure you're measuring that MOA correctly? I've NEVER heard of or seen any AK shooting sub-MOA with any ammo, and even 1 MOA sounds like a stretch.
@Barreta72
@Barreta72 6 месяцев назад
@Feldmutze Yes sending the ammo thru the same hole or close to it have not stretched it out 200 300 yards yet with ammo have to set appointment to use range but will be stretching it out within next 2 weeks ordering some more telaammo and see how it is longer range. So shooting 50 to 100 yards so far using vortex spark solar with zastava m70 and putting rounds right thru same hole or within half moa or 1 moa. Only bought 200 rounds to test out ammo and used 200 rounds wolf classic shot 400 rounds and rapid fire spread out more on target but still center mass unless I moved it myself. When shooting with a purpose was able to send rounds thru the same hole. Put apple size hole in paper target shooting thru the heart was very accurate. See what happens when I stretch it out more.
@Feldmutze
@Feldmutze 6 месяцев назад
Nice. That's a good group regardless though if the rounds are touching at 50 yards that's not necessarily sub-MOA unless the holes are almost stacked on top each other. I'd be interested in seeing a vid of it being shot.
