We added a whole bunch of videos on television production to our channel!!
This is the first lecture for the course, "Introduction to TV Production" at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah. The lecture introduces the student to basic elements of television production and prepares students with terms and definitions that will be used throughout future lectures.
Please help us make more videos like this one by becoming a patron on Patreon at / howzitdun .
The video also demonstrates the use of the Community Education Channel studios to produce lecture videos. Professors can use three different camera angles depending on the type of content they are presenting. They can interact with graphics in a "Powerpoint on the projector" type setup. They can demonstrate using closeup shots of the subject of the demonstration. Finally, they can quickly jump back and forth between their computer screens and their live, on-camera lecture. This setup far surpasses the typical "sit in front of my web cam and record a lecture" type setup. Professors have the option of editing out mistakes, making the lecture more like live lectures by providing more movement, and using a variety of tools to make taped lectures more exciting in general.

The Olympic Games in France will be soon and we need to record a video about our team and our athletes. Not a single one has been announced yet, but in politics such issues are resolved quickly and the team will march through the Olympic Stadium with a new flag and anthem, and they need to be filmed.

This was an excellent video. You chose to discuss elements very key to understanding this process. I know about some of this but other elements I didn't know the names of. For instance the switcher. I'd seen this gear but didn't know what it was called and didn't fully understand its function. Very well explained

Thank you so much! So glad I found this video. I’ve been working as a Broadcast I.T. Technician for about 3 years, with mainly an I.T. background only (no TV prior). This helped answer a lot of little questions I never really considered to ask… although I was quite proud that I already knew WX = weather. ;-)

See I’m at a similar cross roads, I’m in IT but I find television, especially the behind the scenes, fascinating and IT isn’t what I want to do exactly anymore. I wasn’t sure if there was too much cross over… this comment makes me think I’m going in the right direction. IT in TV seems interesting to me. Thanks.

Thank you professor David, in your RU-vid television production process video I learned a lot, I’m not in school but must learn the production process as I am starting a Christian broadcasting network using tricaster from newtec. Once again thank you at my age of 55 learning soothing new is not trouble-free, you have helped me feel good about learning once again. Question what is your opinion on the tri-caster mine or 8000 Benjamin / California

Definite Subscribe. You mentioned during the video, about designations. Have you covered them in any of your later videos? I would surely like to see a video explaining most of the common designations, using an actual set, just like some of the things you explained in this video (example technical director). P.S. have you heard of Bam Bam Bigelow?

Are all jobs in television "do as your told" puppet jobs? In front of or behind the cameras, do all orders ultimately come down from a select few way at the top regardless of network? The reason I ask is because broadcasting is one area I'm interested in but I don't want to bother going for a degree if I can't use my artistic side freely producing or directing a broadcast.

I'm looking to make a career switch into tv. I want to be an on-air personality. I don't know too much about the technical part of the job which I why I'm watching this but I have an infectious, charismatic personality, with great interpersonal skills and a great sense of humor which I think works to my advantage. Does anyone have any advice, connections, networking tips for this endeavor?

This was great, thanks, I've been looking for "video production camera equipment" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Piyason Videographic Ventures - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my buddy got excellent success with it.

I want to create my own 24-hour television in the USA. The broadcast language is Tatar, Tatars are a people from Eurasia, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Russian Federation.Tatars five million people. And there is almost no content in the native language, that is, the quality is low.Do you have journalists and employees who will work in the team of our TV Company "Tatarstan"?In principle, nothing particularly complicated, everything is the same, but only in the Tatar language. Translations and broadcasts of films, programs and news in the Tatar language by native Tatar speakers abound in Europe and the USA. You can also hire employees from the Russian Federation. The broadcast language is Tatar, English, Russian and any other, but mainly Tatar. What will you get for it? You will pay less for political preferences and taxes because Washington will support it. All parties without exception will sign, plus the old guys from the CIA.Well, advertising for you is all over the world

Meh, couldn't care less about the doctrine and lingo of television, I was looking for information on how to make something real, not how to become a corporate slave

You probably should care about lingo and phraseology of an industry in which you're interested. What is a corporate slave? An employee isn't a slave
