I agree. The videos are great very instructional but hearing him in just conversation making some jokes different tone. I can listen to him talk all day long
When this popped up in my subs, I thought for a short moment you started your own Podcast... WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN INCRECIBLE! Would love it that would turn into reality
If you’re taking anabolics the chances of overtraining are slim unless you’re prepping for a contest or not resting. If you’re training with natural test levels the recovery will be slower and there is a risk of overtraining or at least underperforming in the gym. Take a day off from 3 days of lifting and watch your muscles fill out and feel your stamina restore.
Hey John great podcasts! They let you speak without judging or cross interrogating quoting other philosophies. I remember that mentality you talked about in the 80s. I'm pretty young but I received a similar mentality growing up. A guy I admired at my dad's work said eat your whole rotisserie chicken, eggs, drink milk, alot of water, and follow this printout of Dorian Yates lol
Noticed a similar origin story with Tom Platz - he trained with powerlifters himself from where he got his obsession about "golden legs" You have a very positive outlook and bring humility to a profession that many have tarnished in the age of social media - would love to get an opportunity to train with you. Respect from #India
Love your honesty and your Demeanor, don’t know you personally but you there’s a super chill vibe about you. That’s why I’m drawn to your videos, keep up the great work!!
It's funny, I had been reading your articles on T nation for years and never actually realized it was you, and then of course "discovered" you through Antoine's older stuff (which was great, btw, super informative with the food vids). I'm glad I waited to listen to these until I was cleaning the house, great stuff!
Wish there were more people like John in the industry. Absolute wealth of knowledge and honesty and I like hearing his experiences and opinions on things. Seriously tired of all the fake shit out there on social media from other people.
Thanks John as always for your words of wisdom. Why don't you start a chat session once a week? We all can benefit from your deep insight into the world of bodybuilding..
Ah man, that part where John says how he saw Lee Haney and he wanted to look like that and then took the magazine to school to show his friends, it is literally exactly how I fell in love with bodybuilding when I saw Ronnie Coleman on the center page of a Flex magazine. I also took the magazine to school and all my friends told me how gross it was. What are the odds!! Insane.
Dude took a fuck ton and gained 5lbs? He must have really not trained I guess. I did 2cc of test 500mg a week and gained 20lbs and got leaner. Must have shit genetics I guess. Weird.
Loved the part about getting into bodybuilding from watching wrestling. I think a lot of us back in the late 80s and 90s got introduced into weights from athletics and pro wrestling
I just listened to this on their podcast page. Holy cow. What a great listen. Thanks for sharing. Now, time to find a well endowed woman to help me stretch 🤔
John I totally agree with everything you said. I have to say, after changing my way of thinking over the past year or two I have realized that the biggest battle is just you/me learning our bodies, and not just taking everything we hear in the gym as gospel. I have scaled back the protein and noticed nothing but positive changes, I just dont think there is really anyone that needs 300/400 grams a day, and also getting more sleep I feel like could be one of the most important things that isnt talked about much. Pounding food/banging tons of juice/hardcore everything just isnt the smart way to go if you ask me. Sleep/smart eating/understanding how your body TRULY feels/recovering/not stressing should be the focus of anyone who is wanting to lift and look good for more than a few years lol.
Love always listening to your stories brother. Thank you for sharing! Hope you and the family had an amazing time during the holidays! You were right, being a father is much harder than contest prep LOL :)
love it! thanks for posting john, please make a leg workout happen with you, jujimufu, and stefi cohen. she is a female version of you when it comes to leg workouts
loved it John- how chilled and authentic you are aiways comes across, bring on part 2. Was wondering if you have progression pic`s of yourself from that first comp on? Keep up the good work and hi from Australia
I agree 100% about stress. When I went into afib for the first time last year I knew I had to get rid of stress. They swear it was not from it but I lived 44 years with no afib and my business was killing me with stress. Soon as I closed it that never happened again. Now Im like you unless my family is in trouble Im not worried. Your a great inspiration and well of knowledge. Also I agree about overtraining. I work hard 8-10 hrs a day and go to gym at night. Its really hard but I still break and set new personal records but you have to focus, love it, and want it that bad. My bench was 185 for 4 reps 2 years ago today Im benching 365x4-6 every week. It goes up or stays the same. I use it most because im weak on chest so knowing Im gaining there Im doing something right.
Hey John! Love the vids, please keep them going! Could you please consider doing one on getting that sharp condition for a show? You proved many times that in this place you're just unstoppable. Thanks! Best wishes from Lithuania
