It really is just stupid in such art to do exact mesurments since art is a flow and this is abstract. Even in schools, teachers say exact combinations but when you learn it you do it by hand and even they do it just for the gist of it that students would get the idea and be able to figure it out, and change it acordingly. There is no such artist in the world that does not experiment, and if there were, there wouldn't be new artistic ways of doing art, no new types of art. It makes sense only for a begginer to do mesuring not an artist that does this for quite some time in this kind of art style.

I use tempera paint all the time for my pours and they do fine. I only use medium or mod podge and water with paint. Once in a while, I will add acrylic paint to mix also. Usually just the black and white only. Thank you for your for your channel. Love your posts.

It makes me sad {and quite irritated} that people actually take the time to submit a negative comment. Whomever left that comment can suck an egg, and once they are done doing that...they can GET A LIFE!! Good grief, seriously. I’m positive I speak for many, many people {including Joseph N...nice color combo request, loved it} when I say THANK YOU SO MUCH for ALL of your “comparison” videos. Which have been, most literally, invaluable to me...I’m brand spanking new to this kind of art {I’m a card maker by trade...make and sell handmade cards} and I happened to not have placed my order for the Flotrol, pouring medium, silicone etc. Watching your videos saved me about $50 because I thought that I needed one of each of all of the above, and then some. So, my husband thanks you as well 😊. PS. LOVED 💗 the little giggle at the “jello paint”...it made me giggle}.

Funtastic experiment! I actually really like how the tempera colors turned out, it's more of a bold look, while the acrylic has a soft and soothing look. I REALLY want to hop on this fluid art bandwagon and although I have some 2oz bottles of various acrylics, I'd love to buy and test for myself some tempera paints. Thanks for doing this and sharing!

Hi, tempera paint is known for drying extremely fast. This could account for it not leveling as well as the acrylic. Also why it doesn't separate to make cells. I found some powdered tempera paint and some of my mom's stuff. I am anxious to experiment a little bit myself. I thought it was going to be more like watercolor because it says that on the jar but it could be depending on how much water and what additives you put with it. DaVinci and Michelangelo have used it on panel board somewhat like acrylic with an egg yolk in it. That's just something I learned recently and so thought I'd share it. Happy painting and experimenting.

I'm on pins & needles to find out how they dry! I've wondered about using Tempera paints. They are gritty because they contain chalk and I wonder if it got jelly-ish because they have eggs in it and you might have cooked it a little with the torch? Please let us see a follow-up with them dried!!!!!!!

The only issue I have is that Floetrol is about 20% acrylic polymer with some additional flow agents and about 80% water. I wonder what the pouring would have looked like if the tempera had no acrylic in it at all.
@kudzu_
@kudzu_ 6 лет назад
😂 I don't think anything about art is ever "exact". Most of my favorite pieces were accidental 'I wonder what this will do' deals. Even art teachers expect you to put your own spin on something they've instructed you on; that's what makes it unique and yours (and art) not a factory replication. But then again that's just me, I don't follow my own recipes when cooking either. Inspiration, not instruction. Your videos are great! edit: And I don't believe we need a tit for tat comparison to be shown how the different mediums react.

hehe, when I bring a dish for a party, picnic, cookie contest, etc, and someone asks me for the recipe, I say I'm honored they liked it so much, and have a good laugh. :P I've become such a "by-taste" cook/baker, I rarely write out the road map for my edible creations. It's creativity, not rocket science. lol Most art forms are this way. Basic technique + you = art/design. ;)

It also depends on the kind of Tempera paint you use. I purchased Tempera paint from Dick Blick (their brand). It created cells. I would caution not leaving it too thick on the canvas as it tends to crack.

Wouldn't weighing paint take away from the spontaneity and creativity of paint pouring? The fun of pouring is experimenting to find out which colours are heavier. I'm certainly not going to mess up my encaustic scale with paint.

I've watched quite a few videos about this type of painting and noticed that most artists start with white, is there a reason for that? Also, for those people who said you should measure for your experiments, I say, art is about the experience, whatever you feel at the time, go with the floe [sic] 🙃 Enjoy your videos!
@MixedMediaGirl

Hi! Thank you for the video! I had a question about the tempora pour. How did it look after it dried? Did the paint crack or anything? In my experience with tempora, it always seemed like a drier paint. I like the price point of tempora but I worry about the cracking and over all adhesion to the canvas. Any insight is appreciated!

What I was thinking too. I have some of the real cheap crayola tempera was thinking of trying. I had no plans to ever use floetrol with it, as that is for acrylics or oils. I have more concerns with having it thick enough rather than thinning it. Will have to give it a go. They torch may be a very bad idea with tempera as well. Will have to give it a try. Would be nice to see how they dried after mixing with floetrol.

Sorry to be the devil’s advocate, but qwhat’s wrong with striving for neat, equal quantities to measure results? (just a biology undergraduate that loves to draw) I agree that bringing a scale might seem like much, but I find it a bit harsh and somewhat innacurate to call people like that “not artists”. (Edit: I just noticed how old the comment is, sorry in advance for the surprise reply ^^;)

lovely video but, please, stop saying "regular acrylic paint". acrylic paint has been around for about 60 years, tempera many centuries, in fact it was our main media back in school. god i feel old

I liked it. Don't like the "any ways," or any who" talk. Get rid of the generational stupid talk and speak as an educated individual that I am sure you are. Good job on your demo.

Why don't you pour the colors from bottle straight into the cup if you won't be mixing them? I always wonder that because it seems it would waste less and be less of a clean up too.

I found cheaper paints thicker only need water and mix needs be longer to avoid the clumpy jello texture

You don’t use a base paint? If you do, is your recipe the same as for your regular paint?

Sorry for commenting really late on this vid! Found your channel a bit ago and I was very inspired. Im a senior in highschool and I've decided to do paint pouring! I have started with just tempera paint and my effect I got looked a bit more like an abalone seashell with rather defined boarders between colors unlike the slight mixing you had in your pour. This may be due to the fact that I used a small vase as a starting point which allowed the paint to gradually drip down but im not sure. As for the gelatinous-ness of the paint when you started tilting it I can only chop that up to be either weather conditions or due to you using the torch though I cant be sure since I've only just started. I also have a question, when the tempera finally dried did it end glossy or matte? Mine ended matte so if yours didn't what brand did you use?
@MixedMediaGirl

It dried matte, almost chalky.

Thanks for responding!! And same mine are quite chalky as well. If you want to see them I'll be creating some site or maybe a channel to show them off at some point since I actually like how they are turning out so far! Have a great rest of your day and thanks again!

You just can't please everyone - I watched someone who did weigh all the paint and it was as interesting as watching paint dry. I much prefer your experiments - playing around is most of the fun. I loved this experiment in particular.
