this one is more showing some of its capabilities, rather than being a tutorial.

Coming back on this idea to make some temptutorials.. I have a good idea.. I want to approximate the functions of the Dreadbox poly Abyss synth (+plugins for effects) just to show a complex synth can get close it justifies slowing down on buying new synths for niche character synths.. using the advanced options. What camera do you use, specifically to film the front of the unit. What stand?
@TundrahSounds
@TundrahSounds 6 лет назад
My camera has usually been my samsung galaxy 6. The stand has often been a selfie stick with "feet". I've also used a bigger stand for my ipad. The selfiestick with a smartphone is a good choice imo. It's very convenient. If you own a iphone, you can just airdrop it to your mac, edit it, airdrop it back, and upload it to instagram if you want to.

Thanks Appreciate the video Chord machine is great, I will have to make a template for that, major on top row, minor on the bottom 👊

Sounds like a good idea! Remember that you can make chords with up to four notes, and also double one note with the sub osc octave below. That's five notes! This is perfect for live gigs, when you only bring your Tempest. Send your chords through one voice, add some reverb to it, and keep some of the other voices and outputs less wet with effects. It can be awesome in the studio as well. But if you want to, you can always layer more sounds in a DAW. Personally though, I love to force myself to get the most out of it's limitations. It forces creativity.

I forgot to mention that you also can give that voice some stereo effects with a Y-cable and/or letting the lfo control the panning with the filter etc. Endless possibilities!

Hmmm how do you get the Tempest to record that long chord(arps)? I'm unable to record long chords on mine. only about a second long. Perhaps there is some voice stealing going on?
@TundrahSounds
@TundrahSounds 6 лет назад
You have to be on 16 notes mode and roll function. Each note will steal the voice from the note that came before it. However, with reverb added you'll "fake" its length. This has to be added with external effects, plugins or whatever. If you want to record longer chords that actually sounds like a "keyboard", you'll have to use the sampler style or looper style. The sampler style forces you to create copies of the same sound to different pads, and tune them individually. Then you can play and record these together as if they were a specific chord on a keyboard. The "looper style" makes it possible to use less pads, but takes a longer time recording, as you'll have to for example play the root note for each chord with one pad, then the third of a chord with the other, then the fifth, and so on.

Also, you can of course make a sampler, external sequencer, computer etc record a midi performance that can play back whatever melody you've created on your Tempest. The Tempest will function as a sound module for the external sequencer. Super cool if you want only analog sounds on your track. Create all the sounds you want for a song, then trigger them by midi. I've been planning to release more vids. But have been very busy lately.

Are you on AD or ADSR mode? Are you on roll mode, and 16 notes mode? Do you use a reverb? It's a bit difficult for me to really know what your problem is. A normal arpeggio with the 16 notes mode will steal voices.The next note steals the voice from the note before, but with reverb and fast enough arpeggio, you'll get a harp like effect, as the reverb will add a tail to all the notes.

xaqary Do not think they will release another OS. We’ll probably have to get the most out of what we already have. What are your main issues with the Tempest? Also, you can always subscribe if you want to get more Tempest tutorials.

clever! I've heard it's possible to play chords via external MIDI?
@TundrahSounds
@TundrahSounds 6 лет назад
That's true. In this video I only covered what you can do with it as a standalone unit. It can be a very capable polyphonic synth module for your midi keyboard etc.

I have now provided two new videos that might be applicable to what your asking. One is explaining how to use Logic Pro X to play back Tempest chords through midi. The other talks about how you midi sync between the units, using your Daw as master and Tempest as slave.

Nice. How do I sync tempest, Moog, and Octatrack mk2? Maybe octa as a looper or workstation ?...
@TundrahSounds
@TundrahSounds 6 лет назад
Hi Adrian The Tempest works best as "slave". Using the Octatrack MK2 as "master" would probably be a good idea. I'm currently using my Tempest as a polysynth sound module with my keyboard. My keyboard is sending midi notes to my computer, which then again sends midi notes to my tempest. I'm using Logic Pro X. Logic Pro X forces the bpm of my Tempest sequencer to be perfectly in sync. I'm not really an expert on this, but I've found my ways of doing it. And I'll most likely share av video on it soon.

Tundrah Sounds I had an OP-1 and loved the workflow. Too bad it sounds like poop. I want to use Tempest as drums. Moog Sub Phatty as synth. Octa as looper ( or daw kinda ) and sampler. Am I dreaming?
@TundrahSounds
@TundrahSounds 6 лет назад
Try making the Octatrack the master. Let midi channel 1 control the tempest, and the midi channel 2 control the moog. You'll also want the octatrack to force the Tempest to play from the beginning of the first bar when you push the play button on the octatrack, so that it is synced. I'm actually going to make a tutorial on how you do this with your DAW almost as we speak. I do not think it will be released until Thursday though. But since you're an active viewer, I might have to show you before it's released to the public.

Tundrah Sounds Bad ass. Everybody else can’t be bothered. I create experimental noise music and want to do live shows without a computer. But I got a few pieces of gear at the same time. The octa is daunting. Mostly due to people hyping up the difficulty.

Do you have a lot of experience with midi? The midi cable will send all midi channels. However, it's up to you to decide which channel the midi performance is using. If the midi performance is connected to channel one, your synth will have to "listen" to channel one. But your other synth will have to "listen" to another channel, so that the same performance doesn't control the behaviour of both synths. My guess is you want the moog to play basslines or/and leads. The Tempest will do much of everything else, except sampling? Then you'd want one midi channel to deliver the bassline performance, and the other will control the play button and bpm of your Tempest. And maybe start over simultanously with the octatrack sequencer? Octatrack You'll need to make two midi tracks on the octatrack. One will send a midi performance to channel 1 (the sub phatty). The other track will send midi performance to channel 2 (the tempest). You will have to go to "system" on your Tempest, tap the right arrow until you reach "midi synth in channel". This will have to be channel 2. Underneath you can choose which pad/sound you wish to control. Tap the right arrow again, and you can choose "midi clock mode". You will scroll to "slave" instead of "master, and underneath you will choose "midi port". Now your Tempest should be ready to receive the right tempe/bpm, and play back whenever the octatrack does. However, I believe the octatrack also has to be programmed to send these instructions to the Tempest. I have to do that on logic. Your problem will also be that the sub phatty doesn't have a midi thru. You'll need a midi splitter. Maybe like the quadra thru. It receives all channels from my DAW, and can send midi in four different directions. I've had some issues making the video, so I just thought I'd post this first.

I can’t seem to figure out how to reset to factory settings on my Tempest. Went to website, looked at manual... ¿

The Tempest is a bit confusing sometimes. Many of the settings, I've just stumbled upon while exploring the menus. I've had so little time left after work these days. Not been able to be as active as I wanted to be with my Tempest.

- hit the "system" button - tap the "right arrow" until you find "system actions" - choose "reset system parameters" This won't erase your beats though. Only reset the parameters.
