Interesting fact, it was George Lucas who had pushed for Aliens to be in the movie, Speilberg did not want to have Aliens in Crystal Skull because he did so many movies with Aliens and was sick of it.

Considering all the effort that has gone into GL "fixing" Star Wars, you'd think he could have spend a few thousand dollars just changing the dates that are displayed on screen to fix that as I don't believe that anywhere else in the movie does it reference the year.

Tomb Raider 3 with the meteorite, did a whole lot better of a story to add artifacts from the cosmos and archeology. Ironically also featured Area 51. At least it opens with prehistoric times then shows Darwin's ship and crew etc. and Dr. Willard's RXTech employees turning into seth grundelflies.

I don't understand why people don't like Temple of Doom. I've always loved the movie and its much darker themes. It's easily the 3rd best of the IJ movies, but that's only because Raiders and Crusade are so goddamn good.

@@Hiraghm Why should it take itself seriously? As noted in The Big Bang Theory, Indiana Jones is completely irrelevant to the outcome of Raiders. The Nazis would have found the arc with or without him. And with or without him they would have taken it to that island and opened it. Arguably, the only thing he does in the entire film of any import is be there after it's opened to retrieve it. But, given the light show, it's entirely possible that somebody else would have seen it and retrieved it. At least in ToD Indy's presence actually led to the successful return of the stones.

Temple of doom is the best indiana jones movie in my opinion. I like the darker tone. It definitely feels different than raiders or crusade and that's great. I also love how indy never planned to go to India he just ends up there and gets wrapped up in an adventure because his plane crashed. Also temple doom is the only movie where Indy actually accomplishes a goal (intentionally anyway)

I think it is to adventure movies what Commando is to war films, there's a bunch of very cheap movies that come close, like a couple of King Solomon's Mines, Romancing The Stone/Jewel of The Nile, they are trying to reproduce the Indy archetype, which I personally dont think anyone succeeded in doing until League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Alan Quartermann

But due to it being that action punch in the face I have to say this Indy movie, none of the others please no just this one , might need a little bit, just a little bit, of digital refurbishing to make the SFX and stages and stuff appear more epic and real for todays HD auditories.

Indeed, I think what people forget is just how good those other two films were. Temple of Doom is a great film, it's just not to everybody's taste. If it weren't compared to the others, I think people would like it a lot more. Also, each movie had a slightly different goal and feel to it. Which is kind of nice, the films don't all follow the exact same formula.

The intro and the showdown of Temple of Doom alone,pretty much trumps not only Crystal Skull,but easily most of today's blockbusters,in terms of how you shoot and choreograph an action scene.Spielberg and Lucas just went complete bananas on the action,in this movie.

I think that there is a misconception here. Because Temple of Doom is weakest from trilogy it doesn't mean that it is a bad movie, and as far I recall no one do consider it as bad. Just two others are slightly better. Crystal Skull on the other hand.. yeh, it could not exist.

In theory I'm pretty sure the knight Would periodically drink from the Grail to prevent death of old age. With that being said Henry Jones Sr would have to have drink from the grail periodically to keep on living but since he did not he died of old age (again in theory). And since the grail has healing abilities maybe those abilities stay with you for a time or until death of old age. And since he survived slamming into the ground (while in a lead lined refrigerator) which would kill any normal person from sheer force of the impact itself.

Did you consider yourself wrong? I highly doubt it. Hopefully you took the more healthy approach, and said "eh, guess its just not for me". Thats objectivity vs subjectivity in practice. You seem to be confusing that with popular opinion. If that, and it being taught, is your only criteria. Then at one point in time the sun being carried across the sky by a dude in a chariot, the earth being flat, and slavery were all objectively correct. Hands down, Temple of Doom! That movie was so memorable and the villains are so shocking. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is so forgettable and even actors in the movie don’t like that movie. Temple of Doom gave us evil and sinister villains.

Michael Wright he didn’t like it because he now hates how his wife Kate, who played Willie is a horrible stereotype. But the movie has made a bigger impact than Crystal Skull, which doesn’t have much value to the franchise.

Love both movies, have to give edge to Temple of Doom simply due to rewatch ability. It's just a fun adventure to revisit over and over again. Crystal Skull is unfairly hated, it's a really fun movie and stays true to the character and series.

that's the point. You could not have made another indy vs nazis movie now because Harrison Ford is not a young guy anymore. Although fans would have loved to get a fate of Atlantis movie back then for sure. But you could not have Harrison replaced either and still franchise it being an Indiana Jones movie, because he is Indy. Imagine the dislike a movie sequel with another actor might get just for having this other actor. Indiana Jones chronicles anyone? Canon or not?

The only video I can find online says that the speed that the raft hits the snow gave them only a very slim chance of being alive, and even if they were, they would not be in a good state.

I have a childhood fear of Temple of Doom (lava scene) so I'd have to say Crystal Skull. It perfectly encapsulated the 50s: Cold War, communists, nuclear weapons, aliens. I loved it.

I had a similar childhood fear, but it was the scene where the kid returns to the village after escaping the palace, for some reason kid me thought it was really scary? I guess the idea that a kid like me being like that or kidnapped really shook me

I genuinely like Temple of Doom the best in the series because it's the only one where Indiana Jones actually matters to the overall plot of the movie. In the other three films Indy doesn't matter at all, the Nazis would have all had their faces melted off, Donovon would have still chosen the wrong grail and or have taken it across the seal, and Spalko would've still burned to death via Alien mind melting.

@@Nibelungenherr1876 I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I just think that a protagonist should be important to the overall plot of film, game, book, whatever. When things just sorta happen to a character it sorta removes a sense of urgency. That being said I will correct myself when it comes to Crusade, Indiana Jones wasn't looking for the grail, he was looking for his dad, like he said on the boat.

Yes, I have seen the same Big Bang Theory episode. Jones does matter, because if it was not for him the Nazi's would have never found the Ark (digging in the wrong spot). Also Indy was needed to return he Ark back to the secret bunker otherwise nobody would have been around to know its location. The amulet was given Marion by Jones. There is that angle you can use too, there is no way the Nazi's knew about that unless they tracked Jones, so he is pivotal.

i was positively surprised that crystal skull was still in that old school style and quality which you normally dont see anymore even in sequels , just like die hard 4 its a solid addition to the series and feels like a movie from the classic era much more than i thought they would achieve

I’m not going to say CS is bad it totally picks the genre of the 50s being aliens and Russians But Temple is 100000000x better. That ending is one of the best. CS is good but has some quirky moments. I basically agree with everything James says in almost every aspect of movies that I’ve seen but Indiana Jones man..wow do we differ. Temple and Raiders FTW

I like temple of doom too, and can look past the racism or sexism because he doesn’t feel that mean spirited. But I think there’s a difference between the “racism” in Blazing Saddles and temple. Blazing Saddles was co written by a civil rights activist and makes fun of racism and challenges stereotypes. While temple has it there as part of the humor.
