If I overstay my 6 Months Visa Pass And Decide To stay In Mexico For 2 Years With Just My 6 Month Pass What Will Happen To Me Will I Get Arrested Can I Not Go Back To USA If You Can Tell Me Without A Big Answer Just A Quick Answer Please And Thank You I Watch All Your Videos Please Give Me A Specific Answer =)
You actually made me consider the benefits of getting it right away... like you, I was thinking “hmm, first I’ll just see if I truly enjoy living there first” but I’m already pretty much in love with Mexico as it is 🇲🇽 🤔🤗
After watching your video, I contacted Ivonne, she helped me get my temporary resident visa. She was amazing to work with. I am so grateful you made this video and shared her with us. If anyone wants to make this process simple, give Host Relocation a call. From pickup to drop off at the airport and everything in between, Ivonne was delightful. Thank you, Alex, and Thank You, Ivonne. I am grateful to both of you!
I’ve been living in Mexico for 6 years just using the 6 month visa. It’s worked fine for me since I live in tijuana and just cross when ever I want. Sometimes I don’t even get the tourist visa renewed cause no one ever checks me. Someone offered to take care of my temp visa for $400 including all fees. That’s why I started researching this subject and came across your video. Still deciding if I’m gonna do it
We applied for the visa at the same time and I’m glad we both have it! Also I bought my first ever Mexican car her name is Claudette; she’s a feisty French woman lol. But I love being able to register my own car and take it on road trips to different states in Mexico and the USA
Great video! Please consider creating a video with the step-by-step process on how to correctly leave / re-enter Mexico once you have your temporary resident visa card so that it is not revoked.
Thanks for watching, José! Yes, you can't go wrong with Ivonne & Host Relocation. She has lots of experiences helping families move to Mexico which, if I remember correctly, is your situation 🤓
Alex, you continue to be a dynamic force to be reckoned with. We’ve purchased your Mexico Roadmap and while road tripping we’re listening to all your well produced videos. Making our first trip to Queretaro this October. Hoping to call it home soon after that. Thank you for tour sound advice and expertise!
If I live permanently in Mexico while operating a company overseas and my income is derived mainly from overseas (online marketing) 1- Do I need to pay tax in Mexico? 2- Do I have to file tax return every year?
This is excellent advice. I applied for Temporal as soon as I could. Under the new rules in 2020 I wouldn't qualify! Also my dentist is in Queretaro, he's the best!
Love your view! Second time watching it, and I'll probably watch it a few more times in order to understand all the great information! Quick question - when you apply for temporary residence visas, does the consultate hang onto your passport until the temporary residence visa is approved? So, could you apply near the border, head into Mexico and then return once the temporary residence visa has been approved? Having a hard time finding appointment times for various consultates near us. THANKS!
wow!! Great Video Alex..I am so excited to have these options on residency in Mexico! 14,000 peso's or 680 US Dollars. I will watch this vid again to decipher the process I want and need. I think I need to get this ball a rolling!
Hello again Alex, Additionally, I was wondering if you would send me your Move to Mexico guides. Greatly appreciated. Please continue to keep us informed. Sincerely, Cheryl
Hello Alex, Thanks for your response to me. I failed to take notice of the date of your program but I have been told that the program still exists for 2024. Fake news?
You give excellent advice about using a professional service to help guide a temporary residency application through the process, and Host Relocation looks like a particularly worthy recommendation. I only wish they covered more locations. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't use this type of service given how relatively inexpensive it is and what you get for the money. In Puerto Morelos, Q. R. at the moment. Fish tacos for lunch. Mexico is lovely. Cheers.
Thank you very much Alex for sharing this information with us. I am in Jalisco now and will apply for temporary residency soon. Your video was very helpful. Muchas muchas gracias:))
I EMAILED HOST RELOCATION LIKE YOU SAID I WANT TO MOVE TO MERIDA THAT A SWEET PLACE TO LIVE, MY APT THERE LOOKS SO GOOD. I KNOW EVERYTHING IN MEXICO IS GOOD THE US DOLARE CAN BUY YOU EVERYTHING
Alex, first hope your doing well? One thing that always pops up in my mind is retirement planning? Is there a downside in leaving the US especially if your of a younger age and decide to expat to Mexico for long term? I say this because while you may pay FICA taxes abroad , do you loose your employer's matching funds (FICA) ? Are you able to participate in an employer retirement plan such as 401k or IRA? Is it something you ponder or am I missing something. I realize there is more to life than planning for retirement but we all eventually grow old and life goes fast. I appreciate your time and insight. Great Video as always...
Thanks for watching! If you're thinking about getting residency in Mexico, I definitely recommend talking to a tax expert who has experience working with foreigners living in Mexico. One of my subscribers recently said she was very pleased with the service she got from Greenback Tax Experts. I don't know anything about employer-matched retirement since I'm self-employed & have a different retirement savings plan. The affordable cost of living has taught me to live within my means & helped me pay off debt though which in turn allows me to save more.
Hello Alex, This was my first time seeing your video on the regularization program and it was very informative. Boy, did I learn a lot. Unfortunately, I was unable to follow along with you when you were discussing the various forms needed to give to INM for the program. Is there a link that you can send me with all the forms and documents that are generally needed for it also. Much appreciated and thank you!!! Sincerely, Cheryl
Thank you so much for awesome video! I'm waiting to renew my passport and I need to start the process for temporary residency. I will definitely contact Ivon☺
Alex your channel is freaking AWESOMEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! Its so clean warm and cozy here!!! I really appreciate the time care and quality of your content. Its truly helpful! So happy I stumbled upon you in my research! #newsubbie 🤗
Great video, thanks very much! The only question I have is: if I don't plan on owning or driving a car in Mexico, why not apply for permanent residency straight away, and skip the temporary visa step?
Thanks for watching, Mike! If you meet the financial requirements to go straight for permanent residency, I say go for it! They're significantly more which is why people younger that retirement age generally go for temporary residency first.
Hi Alex hope you are well, I'm a little late to the game on this one. Wondering if your book about temporary visa to Mexico is still up-to-date? would like to purchase it but want to make sure that any changes that have occurred in the last 9 to 10 months are on your document. Let me know thanks so much for doing such an amazing job for all of us who are looking for a better life!
2:50 you mention with temporary residency you can buy a house or land. Currently any foreigner can buy a house or land but need to go through a fideicomiso (bank trust). Are you saying with the temporary residency you don’t need to go through the bank trust?
Good video! What’s required to apply for a PR right away? Do I have to be a retiree? I saw a video about having to be a pensioner or retiree. Does applying for a PR straight increase the chance of rejection? Or would the Mexican consulate decide to give a temporary residency instead rather than rejecting? Thanks!
Hi Alex, thank you for this video! I am actually thinking of an early retirement in Mazatlan! Who can I reach out to for help navigating the Temporary Visa application process? It sounds like Ivonne is only available for certain areas in Mexico. Are there others out there to help with settling in this part of the country? Thanks!
@@alex-wittman - What if you work for a non-Mexican business, are you still required to pay income tax regardless? Or only if you work for a Mexican company?
@@alex-wittman - Yes I figured that, but if I work for the U.S., I'm assuming that I'd only pay U.S. taxes. This is what I've been seeing online, but I'm not 100% sure.
Hi Alex, thank you for such helpful videos on moving to Mexico. I am Canadian and I am looking at moving to Mexico late this summer or early fall. You listed one of the benefits of getting a temporary residency was "Temporarily bring a US plated car into Mexico" (I'm hoping it's the same for Canadian vehicles as well) When you say temporarily does that mean the car must go back to the US or Canada or do you have to get a Mexican license plate after a certain time ? Thank you
Hi there! Your vehicle is linked to your temporary residency, and when that expires (even if you transition to permanent residency), your vehicle has to go. It's really expensive and complicated to import a vehicle (make a foreign vehicle eligible for a Mexican license plate), so it's better to just take it back to your home country, sell it & use that money to buy a car in Mexico. Hope that helps!
@@alex-wittman When you say, temporary residency expires, is that 4 years in total. So if I moved to Mexico in 2022 would I have to sell it buy 2026? Also, I don't know if you knew the information I requested or researched but I REALLY appreciate your help. Thank you!
Hello Alex, I really enjoyed your regularization program videos and plan on going to Mexico next week to start living out my 180 day visa to hopefully be able to qualify for the program. Would you be to gem and send me a link that contains ALL the forms, documents, etc. to be used for this process. Thanking you in advance, Cheryl
Hi, Cheryl! This was a pandemic era program & these days, it’s back to needing to apply for a residency visa at a consulate before traveling to Mexico to complete the residency process and get your card.
Gosh! We did it! We are signing to sell our B and B in Costa Rica in just a couple of hours! Querétaro here we come! We are more let the experts do it (less headaches) kind of people, so we will check into the relocation service. A question, if you don't mind. I lost my leg recently (still looking). Are there areas more wheelchair accessible than others? Love you and appreciate all you have contributed. Up for a dinner with some old Canadians some time (we pay)?
Congrats, Eden! The centro historico isn't very hilly, but many of the homes do have steps and stairs. I'd look into newer construction in an area like Milenio 3. It's got great proximity to the city center but will likely be more accessible. If you decide to reach out to Host Relocation (the service I mentioned in the video), their real estate experts can tailor your house hunt to your needs. Good luck & once you're settled, dinner sounds lovely!
I am 79, and I speak Spanish as a second language, but at this age, I will do the 6 months. I am retired, and I can afford to support myself, andI help non beggars.locally and world wide. It is better to give than receive.
Hi Alex! Thank you for all your great info! I do have one question, so I only have a tourist visa, which is good for only 180 days, what if you decide to leave after only being there for 3 months, will the duration time be reset to 180 days again once you re-enter Mexico?
@@alex-wittman Thanks so much my only concern is that they may place more restrictions at the consulate due to covid and if that happens they will cancel all appointments so a tourist visa will have to do lol
Hmmm. In 2007 I bought a house in Tequisquiapan outright-- no fideicomiso. I only had a tourist card. As I recall, the only restrictions on non-Mexicans owning real property applied to parcels proximate to the border or coast. (Then there's ejido land, but everybody needs to beware of trying to buy any of that.) So, unless something's changed, you shouldn't need temporary or permanent residence to buy a house in the Bajío. Still, the other reasons you list for getting residence should suffice to shake me out of tourist card complacency. Now, if only the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles would condescend to give me an appointment. :-(
My husband is a british citizen who was deported back to the uk after living in the us for a number of years. We are exploring the possibility of living in the lake chapala area. Will his deportation be a problem?
I have my second appointment for my TR Monday. I did not have a certified copy of my marriage certificate but now I do…..but I want to know what are the steps after getting TR so I can enter the work force???
We have all of our paperwork together ( I think ) but we can not get an appointment at a consulate. It wont let me create an account, saying my email is invalid. I tried 5 different emails. My daughter was able to open an account but it now has blocked her saying the user name or password is invalid. Is anyone else experiencing this ? When we call and speak with someone they just tell us to go to the website. We are getting frustrated after 2 weeks of this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Alex, thanks a lot. Is it possible to apply for temporary Visa in any Mexican embassy? since my country has only a Mexican consulate and doesn't provide even tourist visa, and is under supervision of 3rd country where I am too reluctant to enter. E.g. could US or any EU located Mexico embassy process my application?
*No Karens and counterparts need to apply at this (or any other) time, thanks!* *Still a nice place to be and live and we want to keep it like that for long long long time to come*
This video has the answer to your question: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SZJs-NNF3KM.html It's the second to last question I answer right around the 12-minute mark
I am so sorry to hear that's been your experience, Gary. I know that during the pandemic, a lot of consulates cut back on their hours/visa interviews. Is there a chance that you can travel to another consulate?
@@garyduran1 check out the one in Detroit or Atlanta. I’m in NC and I’ve been back in the us after a year in Mexico for a year. Im waiting to schedule a appointment next month for the Atlanta location. There is another channel that is very detailed with the process beginning to end.
@@garyduran1 no problem don’t lose hope definitely get down to Mexico while you can! I have to say I won’t return to the USA after this process is done
I am concerned about taxation on my wages in the United States on a Temporary Visa or Permanent Visa. Also, is it possible to get credit cards etc. with a temporary visa.
As a temporary resident, you can start a line of credit, but first you'll need an RFC number. This guide has more info about the tax implications: www.greenbacktaxservices.com/country-guide/taxes-in-mexico-us-expats/
Thanks for your videos they are great. I am married to a Mexicana and we were wondering how much do we have to show we earn or maybe nothing considering my wife is Mexican ?
How long is temporary residency? How much does it cost to renew ? & when do you have to renew? Could you decide to comeback to U.S. anytime & if wanted to go back could u ?
Temporary residency is up to four years. Prices very from year to year. You are always free to go back to the US. It doesn't affect travel or citizenship.
When applying do you select "con permiso del inm" o "sin permiso del inm"? I assumed it would be without permission, but a google search showed this as being for less than 180 days. What am I missing here?
Mexico also has a very generous tourist visa! US passport-holders get 180 days & it renews immediately (different from something like the Schengen Zone which requires you to leave for a certain amount of time).
Some INM offices were running a regularization program that allowed for this during the pandemic, but I think most have discontinued doing so. Check at the INM (immigration office) in your city!
It depends on if you and your partner are married. I'm not sure what kind of documentation immigration will accept other than a marriage certificate. My partner & I applied as individuals, but we also don't have any children...For married couples, I know that the primary earner goes through the consulate process then once they have their residency card in Mexico, they can link their family members to their residency.
Good morning, Charlie! Cases were going down so the city lifted some restrictions. Restaurants are open again on Sundays. Still not much is happening on the vaccination front 😬 my temporary residency makes it so I'm eligible to get one here, but I think I might have to wait until I'm back in Michigan to get mine 🤔
@@alex-wittman I was going to say, you may as well come home and get one here (I just received mine this week). My family (inland) says its pretty bad.
@@simplesimon1375 - That so-called "doctor" is anti-vax and that video was taken down, which is a good thing bc she believes vaccines link to autism when there are no conclusive studies that find any correlation. Not to mention, the one "study" these buffoons always cite has already been debunked -- in fact, the author of that flawed study admitted to skewing the research. My uncle in Tennessee died the day after Xmas from COVID. My aunt in Ohio is currently in an induced coma with COVID. She beat it the 1st time, but during her 2nd reoccurence part of her lungs collapsed & she now has to live on machines. It's people like you that are the reason we can't flatten the curve, it's people like you and this "doctor" that mislead others with your uninformed opinions, and lastly it's people like you who are the reason that loved ones are dying. Even if vaccines could "somehow" cause autism, then I'd still risk it bc the COVID virus symptoms are so excruciating that I wouldn't wish COVID on my enemies. I'll take my chances with a vaccine, than to have to deal with oxygen depletion at best .... or at worse my lungs burning, suffocation, or death.
How would they know my travel history when ive crossed hundreds of times walking across and never once asked to show my ID or FMM visa? There isnt even any communication. They just scan my suitcase by xray machine so how are my visits tracked?
There isn't an amount of time you have to spend in Mexico to keep your residency or to qualify for permanent after four years of temporary. However, if you decide to apply for citizenship after permanent, then you need to show that you spend at least 80 percent of your time in Mexico.
Hi, Teresa! You can get an apartment all to yourself in the city center for less than $25 USD/night. There are some great Airbnb options for less than $15 USD/night.
It can vary slightly from consulate to consulate. Right now at the Mexican Consulate in Detroit (where I went), it's "with a minimum average balance of $27,213.00 USD per month" or "pay roll stubs or retirement of the last six months with a minimum income of $1,634.00 USD for the past six months after taxes and employment letter specifying your position and salary during the last six months."
