The biggest thing I learned from my 131 (and not being very mechanically savy) is this I'm more interested in the Horsepower and Torque the bike produces and for me the HP & torque range of 120 or more is going to be good for me. I'm thrilled with the power and deliver of my sled (when it's running) and those numbers mean the most to me and are pretty much the minimums moving forward. My brother got a cam and a tune on his 114 and performs really well (can't wait to see the numbers)

Thank you sir! I was hoping to hear from you as you’re the resident 131” expert who has a damn good amount of miles on that platform! Thanks for watching and for your insight my friend!

I know I'm in the minority here, but my 114 has PLENTY of power. I am in no way tempted to up its performance... although chicks dig more inches LOL. Great topic, man!

Thank you sir! I’m with you my Wing has plenty of power but the temptation is always there to bump up. The chase for more HP is an addiction for some. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!

My street glide was a twin turbo 96" making 175 hp at 8 lbs of boost. 150 hp on a production cruiser/ touring bike straight off the sales floor is KA-RAY-ZEEE!
@BigSmittyRiding
@BigSmittyRiding Год назад
Man I feel ya Scott! 150 is nuts on a production bike! They just keep getting bigger and bigger! The twin cam 96” and 103” were badass with a little work done to them. Thanks for watching buddy!

I have a 2007 Heritage Softail. It has a stock 96" Twin Cam. I am satisfied with the power. I am getting rid of a VTX. It had a 110" engine. One downside to these bigger motors is decreasing gas mileage. I guess I am also showing my age. I value quiet and comfort over power.
@BigSmittyRiding
@BigSmittyRiding Год назад
Quiet and comfort are two key things to why I chose my Wing. Now I admit I wish it had more sound… but that’s another story. I’m with you, if you’re happy with the power of your stock motor then there’s no need to spend a ton of money on a new one! Thanks for the feedback and for watching!

Torque on a cruiser is what you need. Getting the big girls through the twisties outweighs HP. The Goldwing in my opinion delivers both perfectly. Very few Harley’s or Indians without big $$ spent can match the Honda. Keep up the good work big fella 👍
@BigSmittyRiding

I completely agree with you Scotty! The way the Wing delivers power to the rear wheel is a thing of beauty. Perfect combo of torque and HP in my opinion. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!

The Pursuit is on the top of my list if I was to upgrade. Now, I’m very pleased with my 103. Plenty of power for how I ride. However, I’ll be hitting 50k soon and have heard that’s a good time to replace the oil pump and bearings. If they open it up I may replace the cam and get a few more horses.

That’s awesome my friend! I wish I’d have put gear driven cams in my 103 Street Glide. Those motors will move and are plenty powerful! Thanks for watching and for the support my friend!

Hell yes I’m tempted! But reality is: I’m 60 years old, my bike has plenty of power with just me or when my wife tags along. I only want it for bragging rights, to have one up. Sad but true 😊

I bought my Road king new in 2017. The engine is stock and I tour with it. I am a 300 lb. man and loaded with gear it has plenty of gitty up for all my needs. Liquid cooling would be nice though. lol keep up the good work.

Thank you Larry. I feel you, plenty of people love the stock motor and put thousands of reliable miles on them. I’m a 300+ pound guy myself and my Wing is perfect for me! Thanks for the support and for watching!

The craze of bigger, better faster is just crazy. I think RU-vidrs tend to drive this trend and it is a little off base. Trading joy for specs just misses the point.
@BigSmittyRiding
@BigSmittyRiding Год назад
I couldn’t agree more! The chase for more power is definitely pushed by folks who are sponsored by certain companies and aftermarket parts makers. Some folks just always have to chase the big numbers and big displacement. I’m happy with what I have! Thanks for the input and for watching!
@freebirdsgarage
@freebirdsgarage Год назад
Chasing those big block dreams, it’s always tempting wanting the bigger block. But once you see the next “big” motor is coming out every year, you can wait 5 and get a better bang. I’m more for the learn to ride better and you’ll use more of your motor in the corners then hammering on it leaving the gas station lol. But also won’t mind a 124 Evo 😅
@BigSmittyRiding
@BigSmittyRiding Год назад
Yeah, it’s funny everyone seems to chase the big inch motors and big HP numbers but I’ve seen a guy on an 80” EVO kill dudes riding in the twisties. Like they couldn’t keep up. I’m happy with what I’ve got but if they make a 2000cc conversion kit for my Wing… I’d be very tempted! Thanks for watching Jay!

Great topic kinfolk. I would always love to get more power out of a bigger cc motor, but then I'm like wellllll I really don't need it lol. I'm super pleased with my stock motor but in all honesty, it's always fun to move up in motor size.

CUBIC inches, baby. CUBIC inches. I remember when the Kawasaki 900 came out. That thing was king of the road back then. I remember buying my VTX 1300 thinking it was the biggest engine I'd ever had and it was ALL I could ever want. Then I got the VTX 1800 and WHOA. And now I have the 1800 Valk and it is just about as much as I can imagine EVER needing. Truly I don't see any need for anything bigger. How fast can you go and how much torque do you NEED? Problem with all these huge motors is many are aftermarket replacements and not truly compatible with the timing, exhaust and transmissions and they can be very problematic. Not to mention the enormous expense involved in buying, installing and matching components. My opinion, the ROI is extremely low. Got some Metzelers for the Valk delivered this week after an exhaustive search. They look really good. And I ordered a set of SoCal fog lamps which are on back order until July 31. I stopped in to Honda today and they said just to bring the bike in and drop it off and they'd get it back to me in about a week. I don't understand their schedule but I don't try anymore. It's a pain dropping off and getting picked up twice. They had a couple GW tourers on the floor priced at $27K. Once the fog lamps are on, the only other thing I may do is get the BrakeAway cruise control. Then it will finally be completely outfitted as I want it. Hope all is well in your world! Tongue click and fingers pointed back atcha!🍺🕶😎🏍🏍🏍🎧🎵👍😜🍔🥓☝🥃👌

@BigSmittyRiding Год назад
My friend that BrakeAway cruise control is s game changer! You’re gonna love it! Metzler tires are really good tires. And I’m super jealous that you’ve owned both the VTX 1300 and VTX1800! The need for more displacement will always be there for me, but the Wing and the 1800cc motor scratches that itch! Thanks for the comment and for your continued support my friend!

Yeah I’m tempted I got a 03 Iron Horse Stalker with the S&S 124 on my Iron Horse built it in 2010 from a 113 S&S that overheated in Sturgis 2010 at the 70th anniversary. I’m thinking of getting the S&S 143. 162 hp 151 torque. The bigger the motor the more the thump at idle. It’s all about the sound. And I like 140 miles an hour between red lights
@BigSmittyRiding
@BigSmittyRiding Год назад
Now you are who I was talking about in this video!!! 143” S&S sounds like a rocket ship! That’s so awesome! The bigger motors just have a sound and idle to them that’s just cool as hell! Thanks for the comment and for watching!

I have a 114 in my Revival. Which to me is more than enough. I mean it's a 900 lb bike, a couple of more CI is going to be negligible. Then again I'm cheap! 😁So the juice isn't worth the squeeze to me. Great topic. Eric
@BigSmittyRiding
@BigSmittyRiding Год назад
Agreed! The more inches the more cost in most cases. It’s funny that the need to have the biggest motor, in some cases, outweighs the benefits of said motor. Thanks for watching and for the feedback Eric!

In all reality the power put out by even the older motors were more than enough. But people always want to go bigger!! A while back Kawasaki came out with a 2000cc motor. And that had to have been 15 years ago.

The idea of a bigger motor is cool. But I am perfectly happy with what I have. When I was shopping I guess motor size wasn't really on the brain. My RGS came with the 114 and it does really well riding 2 up. If I ever do decide to change bikes, the driving factor would be comfort, and how well it does with both my wife and I on it. If that means a few more inches, cool. :)

I'm not tempted, but I'm not a guy, so.... My Dyna Low Rider with a TC 88 felt more than enough. My current Road King with a 107 feels like more than enough. I'm just out there riding, obeying traffic laws and lame stuff like that cause I hate paying stupid tax for going extra fast. So since I don't take it on a track, I've got no use for MOOOOOREEEE. Idk, makes sense in my head, anyway.
