This Generation is Weak! Or Are They???
I openly admit that after talking to a few of these younger dudes that I was wrong. They are carrying the torch of the motorcycle culture and they’re doing in their own way!

Great video as always! There's a lot of generalizations made about this new generation because of the ones that are screaming the loudest on the internet. As a 23 year, old almost all of my friends own Harleys and will continue to own, ride, tour, and stunt Harleys because it's so much more than just a bike. Most of the people I know cant justify buying a brand new Cruiser or touring bike from the dealer but we're always scouring the internet to find good deals even if it's just a frame. Sure we might not be at all the Hog chapter meetings or riding in your local support club, but we're out every single weekend, wrenching, learning, destroying, and wrenching again. The younger motorcycle scene is very alive, it's just found in entirely new places. We're not at the bars anymore, we'll save our money and take some beers to the lot.

Man I’m noticing you younger cats getting back to what it’s all about. Wrenching and riding. Not drinking at bars but having beer in the garage and learning about your bikes. I really appreciate your help and your insight! Thank you so much!

So I'm 48 my kids are 17 and 13 and I have always raised them where I don't believe in participation trophies and you need to learn what failure is to grow. But I also teach them that it's not a bad thing to fail either because you do learn from it and you can't expect to do perfect at everything you try. The fact that they're doing their own thing with cheaper versions of what people have and still are having just as much fun.. maybe more... There's too much history in North America alone with motorcycles and it's something that just can't be allowed to die. Keep the two wheels rolling!!

I have a 17 year old and a 15 year old myself and I agree with you. I’ve learned that some of these kids aren’t soft or as weak as I thought and that the culture is just changing. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

Chase, that commented is on point. There is a whole crop of young riders using HDs for stunting. They're killing it doing their own thing. Good video!

I agree Eric, these youngsters have shown me a thing or two and I’m glad to see the culture is in good hands. Doing things their own way and using HD’s to do it! Very cool! Thanks for watching and for the feedback good sir!

I'm 41 and have an 18 year old and a 14 year old boys. They are both into bikes, have been on dirt bikes since they were about 5 and now can't wait to hit the road👍 The future of the sport depends on us riders passing down the Joy and Relaxation that riding gives us in this crazy world. My oldest has his first bike that is a project we are working on this winter, and my youngest is already picking out what he wants when he's of age. P.s the last time I commented was before my trip to Hawaii where the wife and I rented a bike and did the road to Hana as well as Haleakala crater in Maui. It was an epic ride! If you ever get the chance do it👍

I just recently got my first bike at nearly 23 years of age, fell in love with them all the way back in 2010 when I was only 9. I noticed a lot of the younger kids seem to have their dopamine centers fried from social media. I won't deny that I've fallen into the same trap. A lot of us also struggle to find well paying jobs to be able to actually afford some of these fancy toys that we see yall rippin' around on, and sometimes a lot of us are just nervous to get into the hobby. Negativity aside, I hope that the younger kids realize the joys of riding and the hobby can continue to live on through the years, ride on brutha!

Chase is right, the stunt community is very alive and brings in a lot of new riders. Dyna's and FXR’s are the "Hot Rods" of today. Taking a clapped-out bike, fixing it up to sell, ride, or stunt is what brings myself always back to these bikes. A lot of these riders then start looking to build choppers…well attest I am lol. Great one my dude, also I thought you were 40!

i'm 36, not exactly a gen z but i feel for their plight, and i'm in a similar situation as a lot of them. i'm like an 18 year old with 18 years of experience. it's getting rough out there. the only way i can get into riding is buying cheap and wrenching. my first bike i just picked up a couple days ago is an 82 suzuki 450, bought cheap, non running, i'll be doing every bit of wrenching i can do on er. i taught myself how to wrench by necessity, keeping my old trucks on the road, even living in one for a few yrs. i've had to get myself out jams when broke down in parking lots, several times, I can't afford shop labor, lol. one time i had to get my truck towed, the tow truck would only tow it to a shop, so i had the guy park it in the lot next to the shop and fixed it myself over the next couple days while the shop guys worked 50ft away lol. I don't have any interest in stunting either, i just need my vehicles to be cheap, simple, and easy to fix on. that's why i picked up the 40 year old bulletproof aircooled suzi twin as my first bike. i don't think a cooler type of bike exists in the world. maybe it sounds like a lawn mower, but hey, a decent lawn mower is basically immortal, and it won't annoy the neighbors..
@BigSmittyRiding
@BigSmittyRiding 7 месяцев назад
Man you’ve got the right idea! Wrenching on your own stuff and buying something affordable is the way to go. My first bike was a 1975 Honda CB750. It taught me patience and how to get by on the cheap. Everything is crazy expensive these days so being economical is smart. Thanks for watching and good luck on the bike!

There definitely are exceptions but there's a large majority who have no interest or are really embracing the e-bikes. I have a kid working for me who is getting more into motorcycling and bought a metric crotch rocket. There's hope. He also has an electric car 😏. They have to start somewhere.

I have an 18 yr and 16 yr old sons. They are very different people so get to learn about 2 different points of view. I figure it's like when we were young turds in the early to mid 90s, some are fantastic kids with great personalities and out looks. Then you have future inmates. Lol most of my oldest sons friends look like a Llama with a trucker hat on. Good kids tho. I remember being told "this generation ain't worth a damn" it's a viscous cycle.

It is understandable that the young guns are going for the cheaper bikes. If you listen carefully to those influencers like Damonk for instance, he in particular started on anything but a Harley. He had to save up some money and then still got a cheap one, he John Deere blitz blacked. So there is nothing new compared to what the kids do today. What is different though is that all of the sudden riding is no longer a local community thing, it became a country wide if not global matter (MDB or that Dutch girl riding the world, what was it, pussy in boots or something like that as example) thanks to, you guessed it, the Internet. Services like YT or Rumble all of the sudden enable building communities across distance and we humans make use of it. If you ask the older riders, I bet they thought back in 1998 - 2000 as well that their culture is dying. We have no empirical data that really gives us an idea if the community of riders is dying as the Internet is not old enough. But in any event, I believe as long as humans get a thrill out of an engine and two wheels, a solid and healthy biker community will exist (might change a little, less clubs more loose riding communities but still, it's on a motorcycle). Just my .02$. Good video, love the way you facilitate your thoughts. Respectful but you make your point. Top notch👍🤙

@@BigSmittyRiding So I got a question. I got bit by a bike that I totally think is a beauty. It is green - Olive Golden. What about 2017 Harley Iron 883? Too much for a started bike or stick with 250 to 400 as a starter for now?
@BigSmittyRiding
@BigSmittyRiding 7 месяцев назад
@@littlemswolf so it depends on how comfortable you are on the 883 etc. That’s a great bike and is very reliable. I say take the riders safety course and ride on the 250cc and 300cc bikes and see how they feel to you. If you feel you can handle the Sporty then by all means go for it! It’s all about you riding to your comfort level and what you feel is right for you. Sit on every bike you can and see what fits.
