In this deck I feel that Wilderness Reclamation is better than Seedborn Muse, because it will keep your commander tapped for the instant doubling.

@SupaFly Supreme oh yeah. I mean ill have to try it out, but the way i see it is that i can tap Kalamax if needed, as well as untap him to be a blocker if needed, and tap problematic permanents if necessary. Or untap a Gaea's Cradle. I just think they are the best untappers, but ill still have to try them out to see if they work

I like seedtime for instant extra turns and you would have to be crazy not to use electrodominance. Stolen strategies can pick up your opponents instants and copy them very sexy. Harrow is quite good grabbing 4 lands for 1. Rewind seems like a great one. Wild ricochet can be sweet with a free copy.

My must-pick for this deck would be: "Precognition Field" 3+U (DOM) - Look at top card of your libary at any time; You may cast that card if its a instant or sorcery; 3 generic Mana = exile the top card of you libary.

Yeah I gotta say precog field is cool but spring for the kefnet he is down to like 2 bucks. If say frantic search comes up you pay 1 blue and 3 blue and cast it 4 times. With precog field you can double cast it the once for 3. But then the god can swing for damage and if murdered horribly comes back.

44:17 When copying modal spells... You can not choose different modes. Something to keep in mind when mentioning the confluence spells. If i choose counter+bounce+draw for the original, then the copy will also be counter+bounce+copy. You get to choose new targets, but for the exact same mode configuration. Definitely a correct card for the deck, just one with a small rules burr to remember.

Dual Casting 1R Enchantment : enchant creatue enchanted creature has R(tap): copy target instant or sorcery spell you control, you may choose new targets for the copy

@@smartkaboose3806 not an additional time, but it sets up the whole turn rotation, and if kalamax is Summoning Sick, you won't get ANY copies anyway.

Actually, the smart plan with those partners would be to send out only Pako first, stock up on cards with fetch counters and keep Haldan safe until you're ready to bring him out and start playing those cards, at which point you don't need Pako to stick around.

I would label drum as a trap card. It does not ramp TO your commander, which is the biggest goal of ramp. It synergizes with the commander once it's out. So if i included it in my deck, it would be in the 'tapped commander' section, not the 'ramp' section.

Dual casting doesn't just "go off" like the other ones do, because it copies the next spell you cast, rather than copying one that's on the stack

Why is NOBODY talking about Holdout Settlement and Survivors' Encampment? They are untapped lands that help you tap calamax, fix your mana, and protect versus things like goading and some other effects in the format!! And are like 10 cents each

51:27 Predatory Impetus isn't a lure the way Josh and Jimmy seem to think it is. The creature just needs to be blocked, not every creature needs to block it. So the use cases they mention don't really work the way they seem to want them to.

@@healusion8912 it works but not exactly the same. If you fork an instant you get 2 copies and +2/+2. If you fork a sorcery like cultivate you cast it twice but get +1/+1 which is minor but worth considering. The 6:00 they were just reading the card wrong.

Paul Rhoades The 32:43 example works like they said. You cast the fork on your opponent’s Cultivate. The fork is the first Instant you’ve cast this turn, so Kalamax copies *the fork* and gets +1/+1. With your copied fork, you then target your original fork, which copies *the fork* and gives Kalamax +1/+1. Repeat until you have as many counters on Kalamax as you wish.

@@RogueHippie13 fork works. Twincast works. Wild Ricochet works. Reverberate works. But they choose Narset's Reversal which is not a fork. It is a fantastic choice and works differently to be broken with Kalamax. But it does not do the combo you are describing.

Saruli Caretaker might be a budget way to tap your commander without combat, 1 green for a 0/3 defender with tap: tap an untapped creature, add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Best case scenario, turn one play it, turn 2 ramp, turn 3 commander, tap it for a mana and copy a 1 mana instant . Late game it helps avoid combat and is a decent blocker.

Naaaa, you don't really want to storm, the value comes of copying only the first one each turn, more meaningfull mana hungry spells rather then thousand year storm.

6 mana do nothing right now enchantments are not really viable in 7.5+/10 meta.. even if the card is pretty cool. 6 mana to get a swan song/ dovin's veto in response.. or getting it destroyed before your next turn.. (name any good removal you can think of.. trophy/beast within etc.) But in a 5-7 meta it's a good inclusion :) I wish sometimes I could play some flashy cards like that haha.

Just as a thought, Even though your version of the deck edit wouldn't revolve around creatures. Sprout Swarm, in my eyes, would be a must. Tap your commander to cast and copy and even use any extra creatures/mana before your turn to cast. In my experience, this can add up over time, especially if your casting on everyone else's turn.

The green impetus isn't a lure effect as Jimmy and Josh implied it was: it only requires the enchanted creature to be blocked-- it doesn't make everything block it.

Oh gosh i'm so glad to see your review! Goldfish made their video about mardu precon so poorly that many players still have no clue what to think about it. For the moment i think it looks pretty weak in comparison to others but i'd like to hear what you guys have to say. I feel that if you see any future for Ruthless Regiment it may be the one deck of my choice, even if the rest gives us much more right from the box. Looking forward for your next reviews :D

Something that the Jumbo Commander pointed out about this precon that i liked that i feel Jimmy and Josh missed was that, even more than being an instants matter deck, this deck likes to attack. All of the commanders get the most out of their abilities by attacking (yes Kalamax doesn't have to attack to become tapped, but thats the simplest way) If you think about the deck that way all potential commanders can work in tandem. That way of thinking is also why Etali and Nascent Metamorph make sense in the deck, as they need to attack to trigger. I feel thats a large reason why Lightning greeves made it in as well. Haste helps with attacking.

I have recently been playing on untap.in because of the quarantine, and on untap they let you use cards that have been spoiled. I built a Xyris deck on there and it is very good and very fun, playing a wheel of fortune or windfall or similar and making 21 tokens, and then untapping and playing craterhooof? yes please. The political aspect with the commanders card draw ability is also fun, almost every turn I would make a deal with someone like "hey, if I attack you with Xyris this turn will you do this for me?" Its a really fun deck, I love temur, I love tokens, I love politics, and I love craterhoof. Its the perfect deck

As a budget way to tap down the commander, I would include Holdout Settlement, Survivor's Encampment and Springleaf Drum, For instant synergies, I would add Refuse//Cooperate, Ral, Storm Conduit, Spelltwine, Wild Ricochet, Repeated Reverberation and Thousand Year Storm

I personally like burn spells in Kalamax with the fork loop. For instance, Chandras Ignition or Gravitic Punch, plus a fork just automatically wins the game because the feedback loop ends with three instances of the base card if you cast it.

I like that Pako and Haldan don't need to be both on the field. You can play Pako and swing with him a couple times, put the cards into exile, and then later play Haldan to play some of those cards.

Turnabout + Narset's Reversal also goes infinite with Primal Amulet. Cast Turnabout, tapping Primal Wellspring, let the copy resolve, untapping your Primal Wellspring, then cast Narset's Reversal with Primal Wellspring, copying it and returning Turnabout and Narset's Reversal, to your hand, and so on. Generates infinite mana and storm count.

turnabout and wilderness reclamation are bombs here with expansion//explosion. Hold Priority and float mana from wilderness reclamation at end step (double mana), cast turnabout (triple mana), cast explosion for 40 dmg/draw 40

35:02 narset reversal doesn't make your commander arbitrarily large because it returns the spell to hand so when your copy resolves, the only legal target will be the original spell

The copy doesn’t need to resolve. Kalamax gets the counter when you actually create the copy.

This is true, but it still doesnt loop. You cast bolt (whatever, the spell doesnt matter) I cast narset's reversal targeting bolt (R1) Kalamax creates a copy of narset's reversal (R2) which I target at R1 So right now the stack goes R2 targeting R1 R1 targeting Bolt Bolt R2 resolves returning R1 to my hand and creating another copy of reversal (R3) That copy now has 2 legal targets, R2 which is currently resolving, or the bolt because R1 has been returned to my hand. If I target R2 it will fizzle because R2 will come off the stack before R3 resolves. If I target bolt, I get a bolt and bolt returns to your hand. Either way it doesnt loop.

Primal empathy in a Animar deck. You often have the biggest creature (Eldrazi) or you can always put the +1/+1 on Animar which futher helps your deck.

Not sure if this has been pointed out But cost reduction should be explored Unlike raw ramp, this has the potential to go exponentially About instants one of the best would be Manamorphose, a storm staple that nets you mana and card advantage Some other stuff that could break the game are utilising some of the Split Second cards as Lightning Butt's trigger ability could even copy those spells Anyways thanks a lot for the content and analysis, it's been great to have you guys showing the format to the world~

If you got super lucky you can play on Turn 5 all Lands in your Deck. Therefor you need Twinning Staff, Klamax (tapped), a Fork Spell and Crop Rotation. You cast Crop Rotation, then sacrifice one Land (additional cost). Then you copy it with a Fork then you copy the Fork with Kalamax and Twinning Staff. Because you just copied you can copy again with Twinning Staff and Fork. So you get always two copys of Fork one is targeting the Fork itself and the other is targeting Crop Rotation till you got all your Lands. I hope that i got this right. Narset's Reversal doesn't work for infinity copies, but can give you infinite turn with a extra turn spell because you can bounce the extra turn spell and the narset's reversal, and repeat in every of your extra turns

I love these decks so much- Xyris and Pako/Haldan are getting their own decks for me, I think all of them are gonna be fun commanders! Something I love about commander precons is the new opportunities for deck ideas they create (I see them more as 3-5 potential decks with a bunch of stuff to help a few of them) and I think this set pulled that off excellently.

CK is currently sorta frozen like many other businesses due to the pandemic, which is why the site haven't updated outside of auto inventory changes. You can still place orders with current inventory, but they won't ship till they're back, and pre-orders are not available until that time either (or shortly after)

Freed from the reel would be extremely good in this deck, allowing you to tap and untap kalamax at will anytime. With wilderness reclamation on the board, you could potentially do this is many times as you want, allowing you to untap kalamax to block, or tap him in response to play a spell and copy it

Xyris is way better as a commander. You get yourself a purphoros or some affect like it and then wheel everyone at the table and bam. It has green so ramp up and have your commander out and if you can just untap with it then just start smacking people for them drawing cards because they deserve it.

In before someone flashes in notion thief and pops Xyris leaving everyone but that person empty handed and you don't even get your tokens clever strat in a vacuum but within commander very fragile

I also believe fury storm is an autoinclude. It copies another spell but copies itself for each time you have cast your commander that game. It costs 2RR but it can hit the infinite copy train by itself. So you could technically cast this spell after casting your commander and do the infinite copies with your commander getting infinitely large and on your next turn attack with an infinitely large kalamax.

the appeal of eon frolicker for me is playing it as a finisher in chulane. You can use chulane or crystal shard to bounce it to your hand every turn and recast it. While there are more than two players this protects you from whoever you choose. You simply pump turns into a player. This card pretty much goads a player while also making them more powerful. So if you choose the person who was already ahead on board and who is an aggressive non-combo player you make it so they attack your opponents to death. Then when it's a 1v1 you continue to cast it, you will have protection from them so either you can eventually get throughh their board and chip at them, or take time needed to assemble a combo, or just make them deck themselves.

Instead of Smuggler's Copter, I'd consider Conqueror's Galleon. Slow, but the commander can crew it, if it survives an attack, you've got a land that can get back spells to recast.
