Please keep up the waffling. I only partly tune in for art - about which I'm learning a lot. But I also tune in for your particular brand of waffling about this, that and the other. I find it relaxing and soothing!

The longer and more detailed the better especially for those of us renewing our old passion or just beginning I like and find very helpful, the close-up detail work with the camera zooming in one area so we see each brushstroke, direction and so forth Thanks so much, Stuart. My brain completely understands what you're doing, but when I come to paint, there's a big disconnect between my sense memory and my hands. A bit discouraged today about that. Stopped painting in college oil painting when a nun prof was angry with me the whole semester and would come and wipe out my painting so I had to reconstruct. Never painted again after that but worked din many art galleries in management, sales, etc. Loved that! So many people had traumatic experiences early days in art at school and sadly, we've gone without painting for many years or decades, believing that we are no good So your approach and gentle encouragement is quite tear-inducing. Hope to go to France someday for a workshop.

we put up with you because you're bloody brilliant. Seriously, were it only so in my life that every influence was as easy to take as you have been. In my sixties, I think I can honestly say that there have been perhaps four people from whom I might have learnt half so much, and only one additionally, that I have learnt as much, but on the piano,, before an automobile accident 30 years ago took that away. Speaking for myself, I think you are quite a grand fellow and a blessing in many lives. I smile when I wonder if your wife (doubtless suffering for many years) has the same opinion of you. 🙂

"I hope it's not anything rude!" -- hahaha, aww. Thank you so much for this channel! I actually use heavy body acrylics, because oils and turpentine make me nervous and I can't be bothered, and even though it works differently your videos have taught me SO much. You can actually get similar effects with lots of mixing medium and a spray-mister bottle thing - painting is much more fun since your videos. Thank you!

I couldn’t get mine clean at all. Tried it with the dish soap they use to clean ducks etc from oil spills. I wiped off, soaked, wiped, soaked. Still not clean deep at metal part. Or should i really be using laundry soap used for clothes?? I’ll try that next. Thanks so much. Back to another video…

I like to watch the "waffling" because it give me some peace about my own waffling. It means that even a long-time experienced painter has some double-thinking about ideas. I can do that if I just give it a try. if it doesn't work get rid of it. I can do that. I like hearing your "thoughts" spoken out loud.Your train of thought is a lot of your painting, I think.

I am inspired to try that ten minute painting, I have been trying too hard and as a result my paintings lack energy. As for the glazing on the second painting, wow. Another gorgeous sky, looks like marbling. Please don’t stop chatting, the chatting always brings an extra dimension to what you do, and I learn so much through listening to what you’re thinking as you paint. As for your idea of videoing a day in the life … what I’d really like to see is you washing your brushes! No matter what I do my brushes never come up clean, I can never get rid of all the paint, and the bristles have lost their softness. I use washing up liquid working it through the brush as much as possible then leave them in laundry detergent for a bit but clearly I’m doing something wrong! How long do brushes last anyway? Cheers 😁
@l.wolfm.7006
@l.wolfm.7006 Год назад
Try using a kitchen cleaning product called "Soft Scrub" It contains a very mild sort of non-abrasive abrasive. The best way that I can describe it. I put some in the palm of my hand and massage my brushes through it. It breaks up the very last remaining traces or residue of oil paint film and your brushes will then rinse clean. It seems to not harm the brush bristles in any way. It works in a very similar way to those cakes of "brush cleaner" but, is so much less expensive. It seems to be what saves my brushes so that I can use them over and over again with them staying supple and like new for every use. I hope this helps. Stay Safe!

I've come across some eight-year-old videos on RU-vid of an American artist named Dennis Sheehan whose painting tools, colors and method are nearly identical to yours. Have you heard of him? The similarities between your painting approach and his are remarkable. Anyway, enjoying your videos, as usual. Thanks for making them!
@StuartDavies

Yes, I know Dennis Sheehan's work. We are Facebook friends; and this painting technique has been around for well over a century. I was taught this at art school in the late 60s early 70s.
@nwaikikai
@nwaikikai Год назад
You and Dennis are the only two painters I know of who use this painting approach. For me, the best thing about it is the fun of bringing visual order out of chaos. I greatly enjoy watching you slap paint all over one of your boards and then with paper towel and a lot of experience produce the remarkable landscapes, trees and skies that you do. Good stuff!
