Thank you Neil! I'm glad my vlogs have some value to other folk. I fashioned my indicator after the ones Jason Klass of Tenkara Talk previosly sold: (www.tenkaratalk.com/2022/04/new-tenkara-line-sighters-strike-indicators/) Mine are comprised of a short length of orange Dacron fly line backing. I started out making them about 8" long but those I make now are only 2" (that's all I need). I make black alternating stripes with a Sharpie, and tie a tippet ring to each end with a Double Davy knot. I use a candle flame to whip the ends of the Dacron. I tie my level line to one ring and my tippet to the other. That's it!
Thanks so much for your response & sharing this info. In the process of making up some sighters now. Keep up the videos & we’ll keep “liking & subscribing”!
Well done Gary! Another beautiful Iowa driftless creek! You got into some nice browns further up stream huh!? That one had some shoulders! 😮 Also watch out for some people and thier bad comments! ^😂
Thanks dude! Yeah, the browns seemed to get bigger and feistier the further upstream I went. Just tell Dave that the good things come to those who wait. 😉
Looks like you had a great day there, Gary. Nice assortment of rainbows and browns; love those colors. Curious, what line length were you using on your Ragnarok?
Thanks Jim! On this day I had 13 ft of level line plus the 40" of tippet. Quite frankly, since I had not fished this section of the creek before I had expected it to be a little bit more wide open and in fact, the trees made it fairly tight and they ate several of my flies. When and if I go back to this stretch, I'll most likely take along a shorter rod.
@@tenkaraintheiowadriftless Thanks Gary. It looked a little tight in spots and I was thinking the Mizuchi would be good to have there. Appreciate the info as I just started Tenkara last fall and have a lot to learn.
Thank you! Glad you find value in my vlog. On this day my level line length matched the length of the rod (13') plus the 40" of tippet. Frankly, it was too much for this tight section of creek. Had it been a repeat visit and I had known better, I would have used both a shorter rod and a shorter line. Now I have to tie up some flies to replace the ones still stuck in the tree limbs. 🤭
Duane, I like it a lot! Generally I prefer Japanese and the older Tanuki rods but the Ragnarok is without a doubt my #1 favorite “made in the USA” rod.
