To skip the opening credits, the song starts at 0:24 ~ "Beep Beep" is a song by The Playmates. Released in 1958. The song describes a duel between the drivers of a Cadillac and a Nash Rambler on the road. The song was on the Billboard Top 40 charts for twelve weeks and peaked at #20 ( I've since been told it peaked at #4, my mistake ). It sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc. Concurrently with this song, American Motors (AMC) was setting production and sales records for the Rambler models.
The Playmates were a late 1950s vocal group, led by the pianist Chic Hetti (born Carl Cicchetti, 26 February 1930), drummer; Donny Conn (born Donald Claps, 29 March 1930); and Morey Carr (born 31 July 1932), all from Waterbury, Connecticut.~ From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The cartoon was created from scanned drawings using older programs. Windows XP on a Dell computer from 2006, Windows Movie Maker, Microsoft paint, MGI PhotoSuite III SE, The Print Shop 6.0 and a program from Paint Net.
I like Cadillacs. Really, it's just a song. When I was a kid I owned a Rambler a lot like this one. I loved it...

Very impressive! Could you please give me a few hints how you make a video like that? Like, the details of the dashes etc. I'm guessing you first create the images in a Photoshop type program (as opposed to cartoons of old, where they had to draw all the images), and then incorporate them into the video? Either way, it's pretty impressive.

For those who missed it. Post war ( Early 1950's) Nash Rambler cars had a three speed gear shifter on the steering column. They were known for getting stuck in gear and between gears. That is the wink to reality for the back story behind the catchy Playmates song. The man in the Rambler was trying to get attention for the help.

Ahhh, but the biggest V-8 for the American from late 66 through 1968 was the 290. The 401 didn't come out until 401.
@justjeff53
@justjeff53 7 лет назад
All the second generation AMC V8s from the 290 to the 401 were based on the same block. You could replace a 290 with a 401. But you had better beef up the drivetrain if you do. You could still get an AMC 360 (Chrysler 360 is a different engine) in a Jeep Grand Wagoneer up until 1991.

Fun story- this song saved my dad’s life. His landlord was in this band and tragically died of alcoholism related conditions. My dad was also an alcoholic/addict and when he started recovery, he was going through a dark time in life and was about to relapse when this song came on the radio. He claims that it was his landlord’s ghost warning him not to do it.

I remember being at an antique car show on Marco Island (FL) in 2014 and somebody had a Nash Rambler on display. There was also a deejay spinning oldies, and eventually somebody requested 'Beep Beep' and the Nash's owner would honk his horn whenever the 'beep beep' sounded in the song. It was hilarious!

1957-1958-1959 Drag racing was in it’s infancy in Alberta Canada. A person could walk into a car dealership, buy a new car, drive to the drag strip, remove the air cleaner, spare tire, bumper jack, hub caps and go drag racing. My father was the NASH HUDSON Rambler dealer. I had a 1957 Rambler, 327 cubic inch engine, std transmission ( three on the tree ) naturally aspirated ( carbureted) daily drive. On weekends I was at the drag races. Three consecutive years, I won the provincial championship for FASTEST STOCK CAR. I still retain that trophy. Dad had a 1957 RAMBLER REBEL, Rochester fuel injection, classed as SUPER STOCK.

And, one of the greatest 'car' songs you will ever hear on the radio--Oldies stations most likely! Love it as much in 2020, as I did in 1958! Oh my God, just found this!! In 1960 my parents bought our 58 Cadillac from the family Doctor. I WAS 1 YEAR OLD! Your rendition here of the car is spot on. I grew up with the caddy as the everyday family car, we even used to drive it from Southern California to Joplin Missouri a few times for family reunions. Even though they bought a new Buick in 1969 Electra 225, it was a gorgeous car, I pleaded with my parents to hang onto the caddy! I loved it and wanted to have it when I got older, so they kept it and it became the Spare Car, lol. I took care of it, maintained it. In 1982 mom says, ok, its time. I'm giving you the cadillac, here's the signed pink slip. So fast forward 41 years, its still going down the road. It has the optional power windows, and rare factory AC. So now its 65 years old, and im 64. We're growing old together. 😊 thx for the great video.

@@justjeff53Oh no! Thats terrible! Glad you survived that! I had new tires installed on my 3 year old car by FIRESTONE in 1978. I was 19 then. I jumped on the freeway after leaving the tire shop to visit my Grandma who lived in Los Angeles. After about 15 minutes on the freeway doing 70 mph, the back of the car did a violent wiggle and bang, and I looked in the rear view mirror and could see the entire wheel going up in the air! Thank God it didn't hit anyone. FIRESTONE examined the car, notified me they weren't to blame, because the lug bolts on the car were rusted very badly and failed. . Yeah, right. A 3 year old car, living in Southern California, never seen snow, rarely any rain, nope didn't buy it. Took them to court, the judge got a smirk on his face when I told him what I just told you, said, I agree with the plaintiff, its obvious the wheel was improperly installed after the new tires were put on. FIRESTONE had to repair all the Damage to the car. Ive never been to a FIRESTONE Store since. And hey, the wheel lugs on the caddy are all original, and it hasn't thrown a wheel yet! Lol. Thx for the reply, and well done video!

@@justjeff53, apparently it hadn't gotten out yet that "FIAT" was just an acronym for "Fix It Again, Tony." When I started driving to high school as a sophomore in 1970 I usually took my grandfather's '59 Imperial with the 413 under the hood. I had tons of fun in that thing, but it seemed like the logical thing to do when my dad traded it in on a '69 Chrysler Newport a year or two later. I'm sure the dealer took one look at it and thought, "Who in the world would want to buy this behemoth?" How could we have known that those gas sucking beasts of burden from 1959 with the gargantuan fins would become such collector's items in the next century? I spent three years in Germany assigned to the U.S. Army Europe Band and Chorus in the late 90s where I was always looking for a pay gig on the side. One night I played at a big German tribute to Hollywood in a huge building with lots of rooms and a different music act in almost every one. I didn't get to see them all perform, but I did get to see most of them enter the building because we were playing in the vestibule watching everybody come in. I'll never forget this one group which had based itself on groups like the Playmates, Bill Haley and other 50s rock groups with the plaid suits, white socks, greasy hair and so forth. I don't know if they gave the best performance, but they absolutely made the greatest entrance in those plaid suits after they rolled up to the door and climbed out of a pristine bright white '57 Caddy.

This is one of those songs that, all of a sudden (usually around 2-3:00 AM ) pops into your brain and you can't stop hearing it playing on a loop indefinitely. Sort of like when the "Green Acres" theme (or "Gilligans Island" theme) magically appears at approx the same hour (on a different night...hopefully) and will not leave until it's played over and over and your sleep is totally ruined and you go to work with a crappy attitude...much like most normal days when you've had enough sleep.

I remember this song playing on our local country radio station when I was a kid. Mum used to sing it to us. Ahhhh! Memories of the days when a real car was a steel car, and American cars ruled the highways. To this day I'd absolutely love a Cadillac El Dorado Biarritz or a "Christine" car - 1958 Plymouth Fury; alas I have to be content with models of them both. Our family car in the late 1950s until the mid 1960s was a 1957 Ford Customline; it served us very well, especially considering that most of its life it was driven over rough, unsealed country roads in all kinds of weather. I don't recall it ever breaking down; Dad was a good bush mechanic and could do all the servicing and most of the repairs himself. However, he used to keep our cars too long, and we didn't sell the Cuz until 1966 when he traded it on a 1961 Dodge Phoenix - it was a great car, but I'd always hoped he'd replace the Cuz with a 'tank' Fairlane - I still like them to this day too.

My first car was a black 1960 Rambler Deluxe, flat head six, 3 of the tree. Bought it from my Father for $1.00!!!!! Yep! He was so good to me. My next car was a 1952 Willys Station wagon, 2 door, 4 cyl., 3 on the tree, overdrive, RWD, not 4WD, which was surprising. Bought it for $135 from a guy who got it stuck in a swampy area in S. Jersey. All my close friends cut high school to get it out of the swamp. Then my Father fixed everything that was wrong with it. Found replacement windows, vacuum wipers, starter, rebuilt the carburetor, tuneup, and got it running again. He did all that work just for fun. He was a mechanical engineer. He got me started on working on my own cars and motorcycles. I wish I still had that Jeep. Thanks Dad. I miss and love my Father and my Rambler! Amen! Thanks Jeff for posting that video. Awesome! Jersey Jeff here.

Oh my, this brings back memories! as a kid, my cousins and I would play with this song. We began walking in a circle, and as the song's tempo increased, so did our speed, until we're trying to power walk instead of running and trying to maintain a circle without running each other over and would drop at end of song.
