Tennis Forehand Unit Turn - It's Not A Backswing

The forehand unit turn idea part 2 is in the Membership area and the following link will show you which videos are already available inside: • Members-only videos
It's very common to use the word "backswing" when preparing the forehand stroke in tennis but in reality there is nothing backwards in the preparation.
You'll see how the forehand preparation really has nothing to do with a backswing but it's a forward body rotation (unit turn) that gives you good stability and body control and therefore good control of the ball once you hit the forehand stroke.

If you don't see the JOIN button please open RU-vid on desktop PC and go to FeelTennis channel home here: ru-vid.com/show-UCTK9oKMGU0XIQpLJYDs45fw. If the JOIN button still doesn't show, then it's likely this feature is not yet enabled in your country by Google. I will have an alternative soon so I suggest you go to www.feeltennis.net and subscribe to the newsletter and I'll let you know when I have the alternative membership ready.

i have been playing tennis since childhood. i always thought my forehand was not solid. Didn't trust it. But after i saw this video and applied the concept it was unbelievable!! No unforced errors no jammed forehand no stressed shots. Wow you are a true coach i wish i had a chance to train with you. Thanks

Good video. So many people are arm focused and not unit turn focused on the preparation of the stroke. You can see how that effects this gentleman even on his forward swing and follow through. No concept of coil and uncoil....just arm back, make a C, and catch the finish. All arm focused.

Great advice that I don’t see other coaches focusing on that is fundamental to a good forehand. Thank you!

Hi Tomaz, another great video and lesson! Congratulations on your videos. One tip that comes to mind is to use the left hand to “follow” the movement of the incoming ball. This will naturally have the player rotate his/her shoulder forward and generate the coil effect in the forehand. Your lessons definitely are great to learn from! Thank you!!

It's exactly the same. All I am pointing out is that you rotate your body with a slight lean forward. That's your first move as you see the ball flying towards you regardless of which stroke or which side.

This is one of those things that make so much sense when you realise, but you've never thought about before. It's kind of like trying to unsheath a sword from the same side as your dominant hand or the other side. If you try, you'll se that doing opposite side is so much easier, even if it's longer distance overall. This is nothing but another advantage in tennis, since it will lead to more momentum built that you can release on hit. Just wow.

Hi Thomas, thank you for your insightful and the right advice on getting better at tennis. As a marketing person, it would really help that you mention the membership price (best break into daily or weekly price) and benefits for each level of membership. And mention how easy to join. Most people are busy and lazy so if you make it so easy and simple, you will get more support. I think your channel is only one of few channels that give right and proper and easy to follow tennis techniques. Many channels are misleading.

It looked fine to a non-trained eye but of course was more based on backswinging idea rather than upper body turning.

Tomaz, nice tip...just wondering if the same "forward" tip for the forehand might work for the serve.
@feeltennis
@feeltennis 2 года назад
Hi Jim, on the serve the chest will at some point open upwards so there is a tilt that doesn't really happen in groundstrokes. So while you can start the serve preparation in a forward tilt, you will need to tilt backwards. But check this video so that you don't misinterpret it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f98BErJH1kc.html

This is a very different way of thinking about the take back. I’ve noticed that I tilt my upper body back on the forehand. My body looks bowed forward. I think I do this to hit low to high for top spin. This is wrong then too?
@feeltennis
@feeltennis 2 года назад
Hi Dawg, sometimes you do need to tilt back the upper body but the problem is if you initially start like that. If you start correctly with a forward tilt and then you need to tilt back then your upper body has a momentum / movement and it adds to the energy and the direction of the stroke. If you started immediately with a tilt back then your body is not moving and you'll feel stiff and the stroke will lack power. So generally speaking, try to move / engage your upper body more dynamically as you hit strokes.
@dawng7270
@dawng7270 2 года назад
@@feeltennis Thanks Tomaz! I tried what you were suggesting with the left side of the body with my tendency to tilt back and it did feel powerful! I also copied your student and felt the real lack of momentum! This is very exciting! So moving the body dynamically perhaps means to free up stiffness that stands in the way of fluidity and momentum and thus power?
@feeltennis
@feeltennis 2 года назад
@@dawng7270 Yes, definitely. Create a wave of energy towards the ball.
