Um, I think he is just a kind person. He cares about the players and it is obvious(He did something similar with Tomic back in 2016). The most friendly umpire on tour for sure. Yes, rules are rules and he deserved the penalty, but if we look it from a different perspective, the man is full of kindness.

@@west8480 Spot on. Mo made a huge mistake and served his time for it. Mo lives and breathes the sport and his judgement that day wasn't the best, but he has been a professional umpire for a LONG time, mistakes are bound to happen. Suspension was fair, considering both Steiner and Moscarella aren't decertified as umpires either.

It's all about the bottom line guys, convincing a known tanker to not tank helps the organizers and the event and the ATP in general. this "good intention" got him only two weeks ban, I know it's a bit pragmatic but I bet it at least was in the consideration

I don't know the exact case but it could simply be that he gambled but not on the matched he umpired. So it's against the rules but that would be not so bad.

They are, but they have to stay as neutral as possible and it's not their job to actively motivate a player. Leaving the chair to have a private conversation with a player who's thinking about retiring definitely goes beyond what a chair umpire is supposed to do during a match and Herbert could have rightfully raised doubts about the umpire's impartiality

Well he's one of the most respected umpires worldwide. Coaching Kyrgios was definitely very unprofessional but they wouldn't fire him for a single case of misconduct considering he has been doing a good job umpiring high profile games for more than two decades.
