It was not the first time Carlos Ramos behaved controversially in a Grand Slam final. In the 2014 Australian Open final, he broke the rules when he refused to tell Stan Wawrinka the reason for Nadal's medical time-out. He should be banned from umpiring Grand Slam finals way before the 2018 US Open final.

@@JiraiyaSama86 Oh most definitely. And there were a lot might I say most sports "analysts" who sided with Ramos. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't umpire a grand slam final in the next year He's known for being harsh and a stickler for the rules who isn't afraid to go after stars, hence why he's punished Serena, Nadal, and Djokovic for minor infractions many umpires would let go But wouldn't you want an umpire who follows the rules as closely as possible to govern the most important game of one of the 4 most important tournaments?

@@Trepur349 It's the same reason NHL allows athletes to punch the living daylights out of each other every now and then. It's entertaining and thus drives more audience. 10:26 My answer is NO. An umpire is too busy dealing with a ton of possible simultaneous factors, in and off court. A ball boy, a line judge, a front row spectator, you name it - it's not too hard finding someone in a privilieged spot who's probably enjoying the show much more than an umpire.

In my place, to chair local amateur matches gets around USD8.00 per hour. It usually takes you a weekend with 8 to 10 hours each day. You would get paid when you are in the venue whether you are in the chair or not. You usually chair less than 6 matches each day. If you compare the amount of work and the play level of the local amateur matches with grand slam matches, the chair umpire in grand slams are seriously underpaid.

Another awesome video as always! I was surprised at how much money an umpire could make, for I thought it would be higher. To answer the question about being a chair umpire, I wouldn't do it. Yeah, the view is the best in the house, and having a gold badge gives you the best chance to officiate top matches. However, I couldn't enjoy the match like a spectator due to the duties you mentioned in the video. I'd have to be as sharp as a knife by paying attention to every detail during the match, let alone doing that for hours. The chair umpire is essentially a leadership position, which can be stressful to fulfill, occasional injuries aside (that eye hit Arnaud Gabas took during Shapovalov's 2017 Davis Cup match - ouch!). Still, it's good to see that people are willing to take that position.

The rare instance of everybody remembered umpire's name not because of a controversy but because of a terrific job umpire did was USO 2015 men's final. Eva Asderaki virtually served as the only credible person calling the lines on that court.

I can tell you this as an ex pro judge. Hawk-eye made me lose A LOT of money… a lot like 7 to 8 times my taxed annual earning.

I'm very surprised the chair umpires who do the majors are paid that low, they deserve a lot more for the pressure they cop. Even if it's for the love and you get the best seat in the house, what a grind. I'm guessing the the line judges make, what, the same salary you get for working at McDonalds?

Even after everything you’ve said, I’d still be very grateful to get PAID to watch professionals play tennis.

I actually have a couple of favourite umps! Nouni, Asderaki, Lahyani, and Bley! Always good to see them umpiring important matches

So good....inside tennis. Next One should be how to be a referee at grand slam level. Id also like to see one on player amenities: food, physio, hotel accommodation

This is awesome. In a covid world however, the line call system once again has been possibly altered forever. Can’t argue with a robot calling lines. When players challenge now, they are almost always wrong
