0:37 I do love that look that judge Michael gave the other cooks in the gallery. Because he knows that Kaila's ravioli will probably be pretty good from the appearance of it alone (I mean, he's a professional chef so they have that skill), and he and the other judges know that the others think she's a bad cook, and it feels like subtle signalling that he knows otherwise. I never understood that dislike of her... she seemed to be one of the best cooks in the competition. I mean, she got called up to the judges quite a few times. Just because the others didn't like her as much doesn't mean she can't cook.

Is it just me, but are the judges more... Intense in this video than the videos from the previous season?

If so it is a good thing for a TV show even though it puts harder pressure on the contestants. Remember, this is a TV show first and competition second. And the subject is not as in some sports where just one thing matters, fastest/most scores/etc. Judges are allowed to weigh looks, smells, tastes, textures, etc., into the blend and then weigh that with their *personal* preferences. Very much like ice-dance, gymnastics, diving, dance, etc., where judges vote with some 1-10 signs. Cooking is a sport and judges have so many things to consider. It is a wonder anybody succeeds in the first place ;-) Actually, these competitions are not much different from Guide Michelin. Who knows exactly what those anonymous "judges" give their verdicts from? We can only hope they have great noses and pallets as well as an unbiased view to service and the venue itself. Complex? Indeed!!!
