To me this display of dominance is reminiscent of Bernard Hopkins absolutely schooling Felix Trinidad for the undisputed Middleweight Championship. This a 4 man tournament promoted by Don King to crown an undisputed Middleweight champion. This was designed by King for his fighter Trinidad, who was moving up to 160, to become the first undisputed since Hagler. Hopkins was feeling disrespected by most people already coronating the undefeated Trinidad to win. After the dominating performance by Hopkins, there was supposed to be a trophy presentation to commemorate the unification but was not presented to Hopkins for being victorious and was later seen by various writers. The trophy had Felix Trinidad on the name plate. What would have occured if the knockout in round 12 didnt happen?

@shanehale5215
@shanehale5215 9 месяцев назад
@@brandnew9834 Yes , I do agree something was off about the way Spence carried himself outside the ring , during ring walk, and inside the ring. I have studied the way their styles would have clashed inside the ring as far back as 5 years ago when this fight was introduced as a possibility. I have always believed that Crawford wouldn't have much trouble with Spence simply because Crawford is overwhelmingly a much more multifaceted boxer who is good at every aspect wrapped in a package along with an extremely high boxing IQ that was unrivaled in everyone of his 40 wins. Now I will explain why Spence wasn't much of a threat to Crawford stylistically. 1. Spence is a textbook style boxer, offensively, where almost everything comes off the jab. Crawford alluded to this during postfight interview about taking his jab away while establishing his own exacerbating Spence's vulnerability. 2. Spence has always lacked head movement but nobody could make him pay for it because other opponents were under pressure bombarded by an onslaught of hard combinations. Crawford exposed Spence's head was almost always on line with his mastery of distance by simply taking small steps back and land hard counterpunches. 3. Spence has always had a habit of lunging forward and put too much weight on the front foot. Trinidad was caught on the front foot by Bernard their entire fight, another example was when Mayweather used Corrales's head as target practice because of planting front foot..Crawford started to embarass and laugh at Spence in round 6 by feinting then step back and nail Spence with two counters because Spence slowly lunged forward now that fatigue was setting in while predictably falling for every single feint. Spence shouldn't even begin to entertain the idea of a rematch. Maybe, Spence's team knows that his career is on borrowed time because the car accidents have taken a toll and took this fight to get this money that only this matchup can produce. Crawford being number 1 p4p along with the style conflict produced this technical mismatch instead of trying to diminish an impressive performance with excuses of past injuries and circumstances while ignoring the fact that Spence stated that he is going to win and that the excuses that will continue to be regurgitated for eternity do not apply.

Round 3, 4, and 5 show that Spence wasn't really weight drained or any of that. He got up from the knockdown and went on the attack. He landed good body shots and was swinging with everything. The problem is that MOST guys break under that pressure but Crawford avoided the big damaging shots and was countering him viciously - all the while sapping Spence's energy with those power jabs to the body and dome. Spence was literally throwing shots the whole fight and trying to win. He landed some big overhand lefts - it is just that Crawford was countering him and beating him to the punch which took the sting off some of those big shots. That's a skill gap. Not a weight drain.

@@lorenzovonmatterhorn4756 I hear you. That was quite a beating he took and I'm not suggesting it was wise for Spence to do it either. I think there was probably some level of disbelief about what was happening - and the hope for some miracle - on both Spence's part as well as on his Corner's part. I can imagine them thinking something like "all it takes is one good punch and I'm back in the game". I agree his Corner could have stopped it earlier (I think Bud was actually carrying Errol at times too; didn't really want to punish him too viciously). It's the position of his opponent just as much as buds power. Most of buds knockouts come from constantly breaking down his rivals with clean counters, once they slow down he waits for them to reach and bam. Your offense should only be used to bait your opponents into a setup, or break the body down. Once they come in for retaliation you shoot, it's the easiest way to get a guy out of there.

Spence not being an outside pitshotter who waits and feints was One of my biggest concerns for him in the matchup. To beat a versatile counter puncher who lives off timing and catching your habits you have to freeze him and force him to initiate so he leaves himself open. Spence style is bad for the fight. Crawford won't let spence work inside as much next time. He felt safe if they rematch spence is gonna be on the outside lunging unless he establishes a more educated lead hand.

One of the most ( if not the most) masterful piece of boxing I've witnessed. Bud Crawford is a consummate professional. Technically brilliant, with great speed, strength and an insane reaction time. Extremely cool under pressure and you could tell he was executing his game plan throughout the fight. Even his 'jabs' look like they were dealing a great amount of damage to Spence. His timing is impeccable as well. His jabs look like power jabs (if that's the right term) and he seems to time it for when Spence is moving forward to basically use his momentum against him and increase the destructive power of his jabs. He also seemed to have Spence's movement down pat as when Spence dropped his shoulder to go for the overhead punch with his left, he was getting countered by Bud in his set up to that move. It's almost like Spence would slightly telegraph that one-two combo was coming but because Bud has great timing/reflexes/reaction time he would just counter it with a short right hook to his face. Crazy good performance from Bud. My favorite fighter today by far.

He bounced off the ropes and snuck an uppercut in there. I did not see that while I was watching the fight it was so short. Not only did Crawford get hit right after pretty flush, after he got hit, he still connected with another shot to drop Spence. I think he was standing orthodox for that counter. That was the one moment he was orthodox in the fight. A few of the step back left hand counters never landed solid on Spence but got very close. The catch and counter hook that started the flurry in the 9th was also filthy IMO. Very memorable counters.

Terence Crawfords performance was extraordinary. Its like watching a perfect boxer. He has it all. Timing, defence, surgical precision with jabs and power punches from all angles, amazing cardio you name it. Im specially impressed by the second knockdown. He reads Spences move and counter him with a vicious uppercut thats so fast you would have to watch in slowmotion to truly appreciate that beauty. What a display of sheer dominance. I’ve noticed that Bud’s punching power seems to have that freakish clubbing power, like Beterbiev, where he can club his opponents anywhere on the top or side of the head, without ever hurting his hands, causing concussive head-snapping damage. That maybe why Bud wraps his own hands so they don’t get hurt. I’ve heard that his hands are huge for his size. That’s why DJ was feeling his glove after the fight to feel if there was something in there besides hand.

We've been saying the truth about Bud for years, he's unstoppable and a true monster in there. The best boxer alive on the planet. Some idiots questioned his credentials, thinking that because he made the fights look so easy that the dudes weren't legit fighters and were just bums to pad his record. Dude has never ducked anyone and always fights whenever someone doesn't run from him...which people do...a lot. Now the world saw first hand, those guys were all bums, he made Spence (a truly great boxer) look like light work and an amateur in there. He's just THAT good. If Spence had fought Crawford when he first entered into his weight class, he may have been able to beat him through sheer size advantage. But they waited too long and Bud got comfortable with carrying the higher weight and decimated everyone in front of him. By the time Spence finally got in the ring with him there was absolutely no chance outside of a fluke that he was going to win, and I think Spence may have known it, Terence is simply too good and too instinctual for strict fundamentals to beat him. He'll find a way to beat you down, and sticking to the basics will only hasten his ability to download your playbook and rip it to shreds. Don't make excuses for Spence, Spence didn't make any for himself and he deserves tons of praise for his honesty and humility. The better fighter won that's all there is to it. There's no shame in getting beaten by Bud Crawford, EVERYONE gets beaten by Bud Crawford.

I’ve been a big Spence fan and followed his whole career and was always impressed that he was able to keep winning at the highest level without ever really changing his style. When the Crawford fight was announced I figured Spence would have a special game plan bc it was clear to me that if he tried to fight Crawford the same as his other opponents he was in trouble. When I saw him leaning over his front foot in the first round, I knew it was over but I couldn’t even picture Spence getting stopped. When he was dropped in the second round I was shocked and Crawford made it look too easy. When a p4p fighter beats another p4p so badly that all the casuals say “he was never really like that” that’s when you know it’s legendary as a true boxing fan
