5:21 Glaucous meaning. This blew my mind how it describes these two things so remarkably well. And not only is he combining mycology with botany but also Greek classics show how interconnected his brain was thanks to the Mushroom. That's novelty for you.
This is so odd! I'm reading Valis by Philip K. Dick for the first time, finally, and this is the story he is somewhat talking about as I look at the page! Awesome. So many synchronicities as of late. McKenna was a master storyteller.
As a weird American, I can say I felt a little of this mystical power when I visited the island in Assassins Creed Odyssey, no joke/no sarcasm. Very strange, this world is
@@jimmybailey7198 i seen minoan dreams and visions of they culture, i wish i had a time machine thats where i would go, im so curious about them and the language they spoke
The name McKenna is the transferred use of an Irish or Scottish surname. The clan name comes from the old Gaelic "MacCionaodha", son of Cionaodha. Cionaodha was a male given name composed of the elements "cion" meaning 'respect, love' and "Aodh", the name of a Celtic god of fire.
One has to read the story backwards to understand it. This story answers the question: "Why do these mushrooms have these powers?" The answer is: "Because we gave it to them". The mushrooms are some kind of a mirror, showing us our own powerful mind. To understand it, you have to begin at the end. "Going home", means arriving in the present. There is only one home and it is the present moment. Please just think about this metaphor, so that i don't have to explain it any further. It is a translation of the temporal into the spatial dimension. cool? anyway, the story tells us, that we, as the magician, gave all of the knowledge to the mushrooms. The complicated backstory is something of an attempt to capture the complex processes of nature, which lay behind consciousness. And of course hints to the drugs itself, but McKenna already got that one.
I like these. Always have enjoyed this side of him. I could see Terrence as an eccentric side kick in an Indiana Jones comic. I’m currently reading the marvel-made ones from the 80s. It would be: Indiana Jones and the Food of the Gods haha
Phil Thomas oh geez, pardon me. I didn’t mean no disrespect haha Maybe the word “side kick” rubbed you the wrong way. By saying that, I meant he could be someone who would be sought out and then tag along to provide invaluable information on said quest. I’m a McKenna fan just like the rest of us here :)
Citizen Harrison Believe it or not, as much of a plain academic as McKenna may seem at times, if you’ve read True Hallucinations or other pieces of his, he had a lot of international adventures of his own as a smuggler, art dealer, and later as a refuge from Interpol. I think Indiana Jones would respect McKenna.
What proves Terence McKenna is a great story teller, he adds so much color when he speaks. "Struck Dumb With Amazement" that isnt in the myth, he added that in real time because it brings the myth to life!
Oh man, this is the first time I've ever SEEN Terrence McKenna talk. It's not really the point, I don't really know why that's important to me, but it somehow is on a certain level.
The blue gray child could be a reference to the skin color after asphyxiation but as far as the drowning in Honey reference goes if blue-gray child does mean mushrooms than honey make sense because you can preserve mushrooms in honey
Glaucus is also used in the scientific name of the blue sea slug: Glaucus Atlanticus which predates on the Portuguese Man O' War and can utilize their venom for itself. (Also they look like little blue dragon things)
are the original greek storys as interesting and easy to ready, cognitive, or was that terence's transalation that was good? that story was chronic as, so much to think about. nice.
Mushrooms are the fruit of knowledge, maybe the story is about preserving the knowledge on magical healing plants, and making sure it stays with the right people (shamans)
I believe that the first stones of the Bible (3. serpent-inite, 2. hematite (the first stylus), and 1. probably red jasper, definitely a crescent of red womb sun at the sunrise) are encoded here together with the basis for our understanding of the origin of the law of land and getting a name setv in stone. Striking serpentinite cuts its grey crust away, and the stone keeps its greenness or oliveness for a few years after.
my coworkers teeny toddlers go to story time. i like the idea and i would like to go to story time too but only if terence was telling the stories hehe
There is a video on u-tube where some filmmakers travel with hallucinogenic honey harvesters that gather the honey from bee hives that are located on the side of very high cliff faces. The harvesters after arriving at the location gather materials to make long ropes they use to ascend the cliff face and harvest the honey. After they had harvested it one of the locals eats the honey and is quickly inebriated and has to be carried for the long trip back to their village. It’s been a while since I watched it and I can’t remember where it was off the top of my head. The honey is hallucinogenic because the plant the bees gather pollen from, which off the top of my head I can’t remember the name of either, is I believe, hallucinogenic also. The local villagers made the filmmakers wear blindfolds on the way to the hives and on the way back from the hives to protect its location.
Tiffany Johnson yes he did. I just rewatched the end of the video. At 22:00 in the video his friend begins carrying him and later another villager carries him. He actually began by vomiting then passed out and went into convulsions. That’s what I’d call some good honey 🤢🤮😂
God we need Terrence now more than ever......the human race is waking up.....slowly but surely, to the higher aspirations of consciousness....of spirit and of the greater power that is......what a shame he is no longer here. A modern sage of our times......
In Greek mythology, Daedalus was a skillful craftsman and artist. He is the father of Icarus, the uncle of Perdix, and possibly also the father of Iapyx, although this is unclear.
a tip for you, dry the mushrooms first or get it into a thick stoneware vessel and nail the lid on... or insert one of those u-bends, you know what i mean
Greg Berry Society as a whole has a major attention deficit disorder.. If something is longer then 10 minutes you will lose 90% of your audience.. It's very unhealthy and worse people are no longer living in the moment but rather they are distracted.. I choose to be patient, attentive and enjoy my life to its fullest, it's much better that way...
Snide 2 True to your name. Lol. I get it. You’re special; obviously superior to somebody whom would chose to speed up a video a bit to save a few minutes. Your rant has hardly anything to do with the original comment, and further, is a pompous, self serving response.
Snide 2 I do agree with you, however. Lol. Just not the place to go off like that imo. After checking 1.5 speed it ruins the video. I cannot support speeding up McKenna. Lol. ✌🏼
Got to love McKenna..... But I think there is more to the mixing on Honey and Mushrooms. Not just preservation. Immortality physically may not be possible, but we are already immortal as Souls. The body is only a garment.
Ode to Polyidos As a young prince I had the run at the palace of Knossoss Until that day I was sealed off in combs of honeyed comitosis Leaving the matter blue-grey I left no notice Caught in the act of metempsychosis My troubled mother with her not so daedal plans Sent for seers in a fit of regal demands After a bit of plot it was you who saved me Dear Polyidos of the tricoloured simile But my mother's cunning was labyrinthine Even after you saved me she demanded your time A Magi like you, she thought should not leave the Kingdom Until you had passed onto me what you could of your wisdom And so I became a wise man when I was still little Until that fateful day I spat it all out in some spittle And with that final gesture you finally went home Leaving me dumbstruck, unwise, and alone Oh but Polyidos this is not a lament! Back home is where you deserved to be sent But I thought about you often from that day on We took you for granted and then you were gone Some great wisdom not gone just forgot Waiting to be found wherever she's saught
Why the thumbs down? Who clicks on these kinds of videos and dumps on them. Terence was extremely smart and intellectual and speaks awakening truths. So for those who can care less just keep living your meaningless lives.
Love Terrence! utterly Blew the story but I still enjoyed it lol! .. was wondering how he found/recovered the body when it was not told how he found it in the first place
Thank you so much for this share. It's a true gem. And again as I tend to say... Amazing work from so many... Can't say that enough. :) I posted another reply just a while ago.... But It seem to didn't get posted.. xD So I thought I'd try again to make sure 0=) It's also a Story from Greek Mythology, with some metaphors related to the "Adam and Eve" story for that matter.... Just in this one there is only "Eve" in a way sorta.. Anyway here goes... This is the story of Pandora... And also from there we have "Pandora's" box...(which btw, witch some research might suggest.... that it was a cup, chalice or vaze) for that matter... Anyway... Pandora Opened/poured this container... And thus the world came into existence with everything in it... All matter, emotions, everything... But after a while... A lot of scary and frightening things also started coming out... And she stopped the process..... But... she thought for a while, and decided to open/pour one more time to see if anything else or more came out / was left.... And the last thing way at the bottom that came out.... Was Hope... Thank you for sharing.. If you find any errors with this story, please do correct me. And hope you don't/didn't mind me sharing :S Take care of each other folx! ;) PS. Respects...
Strange that I came upon this accidentally as I was listening to the chants of The Songs the plants taught us. I do not know of this man and I have never taken drugs. Many years ago I was doing "toning" for everything even unplugging a frozen shower drain in a shed I was living in. So that night I dreamed a huge snake taller than me was up against my back over my spine and was vibrating its body and sounds while it seemed to be trying to have sex with me I think and it was mesmerizing me and very suddenly it bit me very hard on the back of the neck!! I awoke from this terrible nightmare!! I stopped "toning". I think it was a warning. One night I dreamed an old man with a long white beard and hair who seemed to be God sat me on his lap and displayed a book to me and said "This is the book of your life" and he opened it to see this moving film. I seemed to be on one of the Greek isles. I lived in a king and Queens palace and was their daughter. They pointed to a huge urn at the end of the stairs that was tall. They said I was never ever to open it or take the top off. But I was curious one day and took the top off and suddenly there were earth quakes and tidal waves and fires and the island was destroyed and all of the people and it was my fault! I awoke and I thought "Well I am a curious Gemini so no wonder!!" 30 years later I went to those Greek Isles he talks about and I shook all over!! I got very very depressed during the trip and I cried a lot and thought no one liked me. I am a Hypnotist and Singer. JanieMartinSings
So maybe this story is another metaphor aka secret language for the real story in wich the magic mushroom grew in the dung of cows, and after the harvest of the mushroom fruits, stored and kept in honey to preserve
The tri coloured cow, is that not mushrooms 🍄. A connection between mind body and soul, the trident that perhaps helps the seeker find the answer to the puzzle at 🤚...
Good catch...he mentioned peyote earlier in the story along with mushrooms 🍄...maybe someone cut out the word peyote or could be cannabis. He did say plants 🌱 are the cause for shamanic powers.
from the start, is he trying to refer to the minoans? and the Cretan Labyrinth?.........the Mycenaeans came after during late bronze age. human migrations from africa etc is a whole different history.
Good story however Terence made up and omitted few details. See original at:www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.04.0104%3Aalphabetic+letter%3DG%3Aentry+group%3D8%3Aentry%3Dglaucus-bio-6
I did, while making the album I had many plants growing around my studio, even without direct sunlight they seemed to be thriving, until I stopped actively working on and playing music. plants definitely enjoy harmony.
