Not sure how I ended up here, but now I'm interested. What is an RS-485 used for? Can you use it to generate sound like a synthesizer oscillator? Also, what does it mean to be running DMX on it? I was only familiar with 3-pin and 5-pin DMX cables rather that cat 5s.
How did you connect your probe? I've seen some people use two probes without the ground clamps to measure differential signals by inverting the value of the second probe and adding them together. It appears that you are only using one probe. Very curious
