In this video, I have discussed various terminologies starting with the word "Perio". Pictures of related terms are also included.
Periotest is a dynamic device designed to provide objective measurement of tooth mobility by assessing damping characteristics of periodontium; it does not require fixing a rigid measuring apparatus on the teeth.[4,5] The amount of tooth mobility is displayed by a value called periotest value (PTV) ranging from -8 to +50, which can be correlated to 4° of tooth mobility reported by Miller.
8 to +9 Mobility Grade 0; +10 to +19 Mobility Grade I; +20 to +29 Mobility Grade II; +30 to +50 Mobility Grade III.
Periotemp is used for measuring subgingival temperature. It uses a light indicator system to identify normal (green), slightly elevated (yellow), and elevated (red) temperatures. The green indicator light identifies a subgingival temperature equal to or less than the mean temperature for healthy patients. The red light corresponds to values that are higher than temperatures observed with healthy teeth and teeth with marked periodontal inflammation. The yellow light indicates a temperature value between these two measures. Very precise, the device measures temperature of pocket to 0.1°C.
