As a nurse myself this happens DAILY. Not the tapeworms, but patients and family members like the girl's mother. If you do not want the nurse's or doctor's help, stay the hell home please.

Doctor here. If the patient is a minor, then the mom can be charged with abuse. This is beyond messed up. And the entitlement the mom shows is just ridiculous. The ER staff are just trying to help!!

I worked as an ER nurse for 10 years and believe me, people like this mom are not out of the ordinary. I had a patient once who yelled at me for being late with his narcotic pain shot when behind the curtain in the next room we were literally doing CPR, trying to save someone. He had to have heard all the commotion and crying from the family because the room was only separated by a curtain. All I could do was smile, apologize for the inconvenience and give him his meds.

Years ago, I watched that awful show "Monsters Inside Me" and convinced myself that I had a tapeworm, because no matter how much I ate during the day, I'd wake up with severe hunger pains the next morning. Turns out, I'm a chronic sleep-eater. But at least it wasn't worms!

My Granddad used to give himself a tapeworm every 6months or so when he wanted to lose weight. Once he got down to the weight he thought was appropriate, he’d take medication to get rid of it. Rinse and repeat for like 5 years. Man was wild. Edit: My grandparents were missionaries in Burundi at the time, so getting a tapeworm was probably not all that difficult.

I've struggled to lose weight myself and sometimes wackly "solutions" like tapeworms or taking up smoking have crossed my mind in moments of weakness, but never really seriously considered it. So I can understand maybe someone being desperate enough to do this to themselves.... but to do this to another person is utterly disgusting.

As a nursing student, we often laugh at the curtain being soundproof as it's the way we provide privacy. Just a huge joke.

YO nah. The part where they're showing the nurses outside the door gagging was specifically for the reenactment. Real medical staff will not stand there gaping at a patient. They'll talk about it with each other afterwards, but they won't sit there making a patient feel embarrassed about their condition. I am an ICU nurse and we deal with family members like this all the time. I had a patient literally BLEEDING out- GI bleed secondary to alcoholism- and as I am trying to administer a live saving blood transfusion her mom was yelling at me to get her ICE CHIPS because her daughter was so thirsty. I straight up told her I was going to prioritize her life saving blood transfusion and I could get her the ice chips afterwards. But yes, this behavior is not out of the ordinary. Recently I had a COVID pt you could not even turn or barely touch he was so sick and the daughter wanted to transfer him to another facility. It's like, he will DIE the second we put him on a gurney, no. We get talked down to and treated like we are complete morons because the family members "googled it" on a regular basis.
