IMPORTANT: Pilot left with six minutes of fuel after Landing.
Two air traffic controllers at Anchorage Centre, Ronald Sparks and Mike Thomas, were assisting a corporate jet (Dassault Falcon 10) on its way to Nome, Alaska. The controllers attempted to help the jet land at Nome despite low cloud and limited visibility. After two failures, the pilot requested information for nearby airports with better weather. The two controllers worked together to find an alternate around 100 miles east, Unalakleet, and directed the pilot there. However, the pilot became nervous as he wasn't familiar with the area and decided he would rather turn back and try to land at Nome again. The controllers knew that the weather conditions had not improved. The aircraft was running low on fuel and they didn't think it would make it to Nome, let alone to another airfield if the pilot failed a third time to land.
The aircraft had a GPS system, which meant that the pilot had the full database for the airport, just not in the format that he was used to. They talked him through the approach and locator information. By now they'd been assisting the pilot for almost an hour and a half.
The pilot successfully landed the Falcon 10 at Unalakleet.
He had six minutes of fuel remaining.

With 15 mins fuel that should have been Mayday fuel not minimum fuel.

Agreed, he was by no means minimum fuel, he might have run out of fuel flying the DME arc and he failed to indicate that.

I would guess once the controller asked for fuel remaining and souls on board, that the aircraft became a Mayday at that point
@AirbusOperators
@AirbusOperators Месяц назад
Min fuel is an advisory stating that he/she cannot accept any undue delay. If undue delay occurs then it could lead to a possible emergency situation. No reason to declare an emergency if the PIC has other terms to let ATC know of his situation.

Unakaleet is sort of famous from the Flying Wild Alaska TV series. Longest runway is 5900 ft. Falcon 10 can land in 3300, according to online profile. Still, you’re not landing in a 182…

Question: At about 3:30, it "appears" like the pilot had difficulty intercepting the 274 radial. The controller asked the pilot about it. I assume this is 274 degrees From Unakaleet. Why didn't the controller instruct: To Unakaleet on the 094 radial?
@TheDopelganger
@TheDopelganger Месяц назад
He was intercepting the 274 radial to fly an inbound course of 094 to the airport. He wasn't on the 094 radial nor would be want to be based on his position.

I wish I could be a atc. Npbut I'm over 40 now. We need good atcs in ontario again I think they are good but if they had me they'd be better I pay attention to alot when I watch the planes on my cheap adsb 2d3d app for a cheap app it works pretty good for viewing what companies are flying and how low or high they are flying and where they're going and coming from it helps me stay in control of my anxiety if i get bothered by low flying aircraft making. ALot of noise, i just looked it up and try to derstand whats going on instead of complaining about it. Sometimes when they're flying below 18000 it can getpretty loud if they are not in cruise control going by quietly some are real nasty and others are nice and quiet, must be there engines I doubt most of them are newer engines there loud for plane engines i winder if we or elon musk could invent silent engines or if they're already made all I know is they're big engines on those planes wow. I wouldn't want to drive a car with a engine like that on the back of it that be way to fast. Ahaha
