From the Sam Houston Coliseum, February 15, 1980. Hilarious pre match promo, as Harley Race gets involved. Please comment if you like it & want to see more!
Rob D I just wanna thank you for all the great videos you're posting!! NWA Wrestling from the 1960"s to the early 80's was the golden years of Wrestling for me!!
Tony Atlas could and would have been great in the WWF back in 84-86 if things were different for him and Vince. Tony Atlas was always popular but never got the push he deserved, he should have been champ.
He was also great in the. NWA pro Wrestling too. Vince McMahon jr. Ruins any wrestler's career. When THEY wrestle for WWF/WWE. When Tony Atlas& Rocky Johnson ,Junkyard Dog all were in the WWF. THEY NEVER GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO WRESTLE FOR THEIR SO-CALLED WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. BECAUSE VINCE.JR SAID THAT WWF/WWE WILL NEVER HAVE A NON WHITE. WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION. WHICH IS VERY PREJUDICE.
Yes, thank you for all these great videos. Amazing really. Race, who in my opinion is the best NWA World Champion ever, was no small man. Atlas picked him up like he weighed nothing.
Tony was an ICON who was All Virginia State Wrestling Champion 4 time All American in Bodybuilding and Track & Field, Decathlon. Tony Turned Pro- Body builder winning Mr. USA, Mr. World and Mr. Olympia Titles early in his career. Trained with Arnold Swarzanegger to be cast in the "Conan the Barbarian" movie. Anthony White Also trained with another athlete Mr. Olympian- Lou Ferrigno. So Harley Race or Ric Flair was definitely afraid of Anthony's Legendary decorated🏆🏅 Abilities.
watching the huge and powerfully built Atlas take a pounding along the ropes and struggle several times to Gino's(a much smaller and weaker ma mind you) nerve holds is surprising.
Tony could have been a serious threat to being a unbeatable Mr OLYMPIA in the 80's if he would have devoted himself to bodybuilding 100 percent. I think he had the best bodybuilding genetics of all time and probably could have been the biggest Mr O of all time at 6ft 2 and my guess he would have been about 280 lbs in competition shape by the mid 80's on the drugs the Pro's were using at that time. I think Lee Haney was 5'11 243 at his biggest during his Olympia Reign in the 80's.
@@SuprJoinT Absolutely fantastic quality considering the age of these videos. You must have been the one person who stuck with Beta when everyone else went VHS.
TexasRocks HillCountry yeah hahaha I've seen Bronco get so tired he started counting with his foot! Seems like the guys were doing it on purpose too, but they stopped after the foot thing!
Tony's military press was impressive but I luked Kenny Patera's shot put body slam more ....he would miltary carry the man at shoulder hheight the toss the man across the ring ....I think Kenny was for a time the legitimate strongest man in wrestling .
Este ñero fue tal vez el mejor físico de priincipios de los 80 en la lucha gringa, mejor proporcionado incluso que Graham...habrá alguna lucha vs mil máscaras que puedan subir..?? Saludos
Most of the mnatches I saw Gino in were tag matches vs The Von Erichs who used very little psychology . Their matches were just smash bang and a trick ending . So Gino did not get to work his style . I have been watching these Houston matches and in these Gino gets to work his style . So , I have changed my opinion of him . I thought he was highly over rated but I can see him in new light now . He was as good as people say .
Can you imagine the amount of head Atlas was getting at this time?....hell 2, 3 times a day I bet.... I'm sure Hernandez, at 23yrs old here, was getting more than his fair share also....but Atlas just said "on your knees" and he'd be blown, anytime, anywhere, anybody
