Here at Restrap, we don’t just make bikepacking bags and cycling accessories, but we live and breathe bikepacking. Every year the Restrap team plans a big tour that allows us to shakedown our bags and look for ways in which we can improve them.
This tour would take us along the Aegean coastline from Dalaman in the south, through the mountain ranges surrounding Izmir and finishing at the historic city of Istanbul.
Full route for this tour can be found here:
www.komoot.com/tour/1248901441
We rode through small rural villages, olive groves, cotton fields and over mountains on gravel roads and farm tracks, while cycling past ancient ruins and historic sites that revealed Turkey's rich and diverse history. With this tour promising to be dry and dusty with unpaved roads and tracks, we geared our bikes towards being able to handle the rough stuff.
The film is the latest in our 'Thank You' series documenting Restrap's tours around the world where we put ourselves and our kit to the test, experiencing the joys of bikepacking and cycle touring while hunting for the best cycling roads across the world.

I laughed so hard for that little tv on wall scene. I just finished my 2 days trip and my camping were garbage. But I had so cool stories for my IG. That guy had same stuff 😀😀😀

Brilliant, what a great adventure. Had me laughing out loud. Loved it so much I shared it with my bike packing partners in crime. We’re relatively new to it and every days a school day. We can all relate to the mishaps, and it’s all part of the adventure ❤

Absolutely enjoying watching what you guys are doing, style is on point. Personally - would love to see some information about setups you guys are riding on, gear, clothing and other stuff you are bringing along for the journey. I believe it would be interesting and educational for many people.

Wow, my homeland. I also rode a lot of bicycles this summer. It's very nice to see the beautiful landscape from you. Hopefully, you enjoyed it. I think it's too warm to do a bikepacking tour. You guys are crazy xD.

I love the yearly tours - it reflects my experience of bike packing - always a bit of type 2 fun thrown in and the need for adaptability. Refreshingly unpolished riding - and great filming too.

this was a joy to watch. I'm glad you guys had a good time - and not run over by a truck or a car. My country has some incredible riding, but it's a challenge when you are on asphalt. :) I like the soundtrack too!

Fantastic video. For those running tubeless, how many punctures did they get and how many failed to seal and required a plug?
@Restrapltd
@Restrapltd 9 месяцев назад
Alex here - Pulled a lot of cotton husks out of my tyres but the holes were so tiny that they were instantly sealed when removed. I was also able to run a lower pressure on the off-road so didn't get any pinches. No punctures at all for the whole trip!

Great video. I've been to Turkey a few times, not cycling though. Brings back good memories, especially Izmir and Ephesus. Was anyone using Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires? Just wondering how they held up against those thorns? Thanks.
@Restrapltd
@Restrapltd 9 месяцев назад
We all used the G-One tyres because of the amount of off-road we were covering. I don't think marathons would stand up against the cotton husks personally. Super sharp!

Probably a stupid question but why do you all have wellingtons strapped to your bikes, assume it's for crossing rivers but had to ask. :-) Great video, wish I were 30/40/50 years younger :-)

Good job, lads! I also cycled to Istanbul, but from Germany, which was spectacular. Looking forward to doing this route as well one day. The people in Turkey are indeed unbeliavably friendly but my wife, who is a Türk, insists that I point out a grammatical error in the title: It should either be Tesekkürler Turkey, or Tesekkür Ederim Turkey! Anyway, great work guys. Can't wait for the next one :D
@Restrapltd
@Restrapltd 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for the kind words! We did look into the Turkish for this and we have also been told by a Türk at our premiere that 'Tesekkür' is correct - kind of similar to the difference between saying 'Thanks' vs 'Thank you' from our understanding. We wanted to do our best to make it correct, while keeping the title length fairly short. :)

Amazing how Schwalbe did not provide tubeless tyres for all of you ! 😂
@Restrapltd
@Restrapltd 9 месяцев назад
They did! It's just that some of us (the ones that hit all the thorns) are old school and stubborn, resisting the tyre tech that definitely would have made our trip easier...

Wonderful! Who could have known that cotton fields are so tricky? I'll definitely go tubeless.
@Restrapltd
@Restrapltd 9 месяцев назад
Yep - the husk of a cotton plant (especially after a fresh harvest, like the fields we passed through) has sharp corners which break off and manifest themselves as tiny splinter-sized thorns on the road. The guys that ran tubeless had 0 issues throughout.

Once again you let yourself down by producing a film that essentially glorifies cycling without helmets, it's not the first time either. Businesses like Restrap should be setting an example
