@@Willaron98 in america, the speed limit is more of a guide for when the weather is bad (raining, snowing, icey) so you should adhere to it in those conditions. however, in normal cases you can go ~15 mph over the speed limit without getting pulled over. many people go 5-10 over casually even on other lanes. its kinda dumb

In my country is the same thing... everyone drives on the left lane when they should drive in the right lane and I hate it. Funny story, when I visited India, traffic was I nightmare but I saw several drivers staying in the right lane (some of them very slow) when they should stay in the left lane (they have the steering wheel on the right), so everyone is crazy and do just the opposite than they should do.

Johannes Risk of accident is still being increased though. There may be someone who forgets to check their blind spot. Legally, he's doing nothing wrong, but in my head I think that if you can reduce the risk of an accident occurring then reduce that risk. It's like if it's raining very heavily, you wouldn't drive at the speed limit, you would slow right down to reduce the risk of an accident. Of course, driving at the speed limit is legal, but sometimes you need to apply a bit of common sense.

the only major issue for me is how much the car swerves within it's lane while on auto-pilot. after seeing this footage, and many others, i do see how improvements can be made, nothing is perfect. but Tesla is accurate! without a doubt, these are huge steps for any car company to date, to make such highly-aware technology. in reality, they are just specially manufactored sensors :)
@TomHarrisonJr
@TomHarrisonJr 5 лет назад
It's definitely not perfect yet, but it's really impressive. The case in here at 6:00 is really hard stuff -- over a crest, bad visibility, poor markings and it still works. I have observed cases where it has to catch itself on curves (although never a real swerve in my limited experience), or it gets paranoid when there's crossing or turning traffic. We'll see if it gets better in the next software update.

A lot saying he stayed in the left lane too long, unless you can somehow see the position of the car he passed you have no idea if it was clear to go back to the right lane. For the U.S., it's a narrow highway. It's narrow because it's old. More recent highways are built to more modern (wider) standards. Many of the highways around Los Angeles are too heavily used to replace, and there's no extra land (or funds) to build new ones.

Something else that's uniquely American (I think): controlled-access, grade separated highways ("freeways" here in California) running right through the urban cores of our cities. In denser areas, the tall buildings on either side of the road can feel a bit imposing at high speeds. At least, in my opinion, that is.

That's not narrow, that's just absolute insanity. Fix your damn roads what are you doing UK? xD

Many of the major highways in Los Angeles were built in the 1930s, and there's no room to expand them. Unfortunate, but true.

Do electric cars with heavy regen braking/one foot driving show their brake lights when decelerating faster than coasting?
@scottkubo5593
@scottkubo5593 5 лет назад
Yes. If you look closely at the little image of the car in the autopilot screen you’ll see that when the brake lights are activated in the real car it also shows up on the little car in the screen. Wish it were more obvious though.

People sometimes drive the speed limit on the left lane since they’re afraid to crash into the barrier.

Maybe this was already addressed and if so please bear with me. In auto-pilot, how does one change lanes? Does the driver activate the turn signal and then the car changes lanes? Second how does it know what distance and speed to stay at? I believe that is set ahead of time by the driver using the touchscreen, but can the driver change it by using the little wheels on the steering wheel? Third, how do you shut off auto-pilot on the fly? Thanks.

🤣 I'm still waiting for someone to respond to my question of, do you still have to keep your hands on the steering wheel. I thought I heard him mention it.

@@BassGods Hey there, the video is from 2018....but yes, if you check the Owner's Manual, available in print....plus via internet....plus in the car via the touchscreen, the feature is a "driver assist" feature so you must be in control of the car and ready to take action at any time....autopilot is essentially a "lane keeping" feature.....if your vehicle has " navigate on autopilot" then it can do a lot more, but even then it is still a driver-assist feature and you must be present and attentive.

It´s a bit nerve wracking letting the autopilot drive :D. And the highway is in pretty bad condition for the car to "read" it. So job well done but I got an adrenaline rush just by watching it :). I watched some "avoided crashes" as well, even though I think people feel safer with their hands on the wheel, the car reacts much more efficiently than 90% of drivers would do...

Still needs to detect pit holes and other road imperfections so it can avoid or slow down when passing through it.

auto pilot means no hand in the wheel right?

so whats the point of auto-pilot if you have to keep your hands on the steering wheel and apply light pressure?

When the telephone was invented, people questioned why you would ever need a portable cell phone. Today we all have portable cell phones. Autopilot with a drivers help right now is like a landline, and we have to let the technology get better if we want to have self-driving cars tomorrow. Imagine if when the phone was becoming wireless we all said, "why not just save the money and forget wireless". Imagine where we would be if everybody said nahh to letting technology get better.
