Great video. Have used both, 8-9 months each. In my opinion both are great systems. I think Tesla is a bit better in terms of reading the lanes and the road, while BMW is better in terms of easiness of use, for instance; just a light touch to steering wheel is enough for BMW to not disengage while Tesla requires a slight force. Especially it is hard to adapt to Tesla's way after using BMW, because while little force does not prevent the system from disengaging, a little too much force causes the car to disable the system and start drifting that direction. Once you get used to it, it's ok though. I'd be happy with both systems. Awesome that we have these features, it's the first thing I look for in a car!
I’ve just moved from a 2020 X3 (with Driving Assistant Professional) to a Tesla and was very surprised to find the BMW active cruise / steering assistant to be superior to the Tesla.
@@xcadas No it's not. Watch the OutofSpec Review of i4 and Model 3 completely. In the End they tell you the i4 wins/ is about the same, but if you watch the whole Video you will agree that the Bmw System is very dangerous to rely on because it can't take a bit sharper Highway Corners. In the Test it crossed 3 Lanes with no braking and a little warning after it already crossed one line. This happened three times in the Video, at the same corners with the same speed Model 3 just did the cornes without any problem, and when there would be a too sharp corner it brakes and does the corner with less speed. Bmw is superior in Speedlimit reading and follow it and some points but if you want a system that you can rely on Tesla is way better.
Not anymore with FSD beta 11.3.3. Tesla just leapfrogged everyone without question. And i also dont think BMW and GM can advance past level 2 or 3 autonomous driving while Tesla FSD will improve much faster to level 4 by 2024 and level 5 by 2025.
@@starshipdriver8536 Try using Tesla autopilot when the visibility is not great. I have used the BMW driver assistance on higway at 140 km/h at night and the fog was so dense thet I could barely see ahead so I used driver asistance and it worked without any problems.
Agreed the BMW system is superior, I own and love both cars. Here in the states, I don’t use the speed limit option in the BMW. We have minimum speed limit posted on the highways. Sometimes BMW reads the minimum limit as the actual speed limit. You may find yourself doing 40 on a 70mph highway.
I just took delivery of a 2023 X3 with driver assistance professional. I had it on the highway for the first time this morning and found it worked as advertised. However, I was stressed out in potentially hazardous conditions around heavy truck traffic and road construction sites. I think the system will be beneficial on long distance drives when there is light traffic. In congested areas I’ll leave it off.
@@dyworking Hmm, for now I'll stick with 490-miles of range when cruising at highway speed and 0-60 in 4.2 seconds when I want to have fun. The BMW driver assist is actually pretty good now that I've had the car a few months and have become familiar with it..
@@Snaproll47518 there will come a day in future when FSD reaches version 12.x.x and you will be driving your BMW, glimpse over to the left of a guy taking a nap in the back seat of his Tesla while his FSD self drives him home from work in rush hour traffic. Thats when you are gonna wake up to the tech and say, damn, i NEED that feature which i do not have!
@@dyworking David, I'll be wide awake and on the lookout for the FSD guy taking a nap. To be serious, I like driving high performance cars and would be bored with a FSD vehicle. Teslas are popular here but families also have a fossil fuel vehicle for long trips.
@@Snaproll47518 or on the same day u see a tesla being driven by itself to find free parking OR being driving by itself without anyone inside because the owner ordered his tesla to drop him off work and then self drive back home so his wife can use the car with the kids! 🤓
And keep in mind that this is an assistant package on the BMW when Tesla boasts about automatically driven cars. (I know this Tesla does not have that function but it uses the Technology for it). Self driven cars are still far away.
There are 3 levels. Basic Autopilot, Enhanced Autopilot, and FSD (Full Self Driving). Perhaps you can RU-vid Tesla FSD beta San Francisco to get an idea of why the AI system Tesla uses will remain a decade ahead of other car manufacturers. BMW did amazing, but, this video is hardly a comparison.
@@Tesla-Info Unfortunately the video is of a vehicle using SP18 Driving Assistant, which is the old one. Would you have the chance to test a BMW car with the new SP21 Driving Assistant? (iX, iX1, Active Tourer or i5/i7)
@@victorfrombcn the video was done a while ago. If we can get hold of a later car we will certainly be doing an updated version. Teslas autopilot has also changed since then
We agree. Tesla seems to be all about what might arrive in a future software update, and that could be very good, but today, at least in Europe, the BMW is the more usable system. We've just released the same route in the rain and its the same story, plus we get lots of issues with the Tesla auto wipers.
Driving in a straight lane to test drive assist is not very helpful. You need to include driving through typical highways that have curves to really test it out
I did with a 2023 iX3 in Denmark and it was extremely good; couldn’t tell the difference between the Tesla although the last I drove was a model 3 in 2021 in the UK and a model 3 in the US in 2020
Great video - thank you very much for this. We're currently diving the Tesla Model 3 and this capability to be kept in the middle of the lane is a must-have feature for a new car. We're looking at switching to the BMW iX1 or iX3 crossovers/SUV. I don't dislike the Tesa in any way. We've been incredibly fond of it and the driving experience beats anything I've previously tried in Audis and Mercedes. Not least the awesome seats. I am in Denmark, Europe, and just love the EAP/FSD and use Autopilot and auto-lane change a lot every day. It's simply a must for a new car. This Driving Assistant Professional seems very promising. It's hard to understand from BMWs website what's needed to get this auto lane-assist/ + lane-switch. Is that when it's called "Professional"? From my understanding there's another flavor of Driving Assistant where the car will just sort of "bounce" off the lanes and be pulled toward the middle of the lane, only to go towards the other lane, bounce off that, and so on. We experienced the same in a Volvo XC40 Recharge we just tried and that really sucked. It needs to do a better job keeping you in the middle of the lane. Any insight from BMW drivers would be great :) Especially if you're driving an iX3 or iX1 :-)
Driving Assistant Professional has all the bells and whistles. Lane change, navigation, emergency maneuvers, etc. There's a more limited version called Driving Assistant Plus, which does not change lanes, but still drives you perfectly in the center of the lane. The base system, Driving Assistant which comes with all cars as base system will do what your Volvo did. So you will be safe by choosing either the Plus or Professional.
I don't see BMW anywhere close to Tesla, can the BMW automatically enter / change / exchange highways? Does BMW system automatically do changes dude to traffic? Can the system drive in city streets (FSD) ?
BMW can recognize road signs by camera if have some roadworks or other changes on road, Tesla get information only from google map and not ever actual situation.
Drove an new i5 with the most expensive Driver Assistant Professional two days ago. Drove the same route with my Tesla Model Y with Basic Stock Autopilot. Bmw can do Lane Changes which mine don't. But otherwise the Tesla is Miles Superior, i can't think why anynone could think Bmw Systems comes even close. Even the Speedlimit Readings where more accurate on my Tesla but that could be specific to the choosen Route in the City, because i think Bmw does that on the Highway much better at least here in Austria. I try to get a Video done next time, doing the same Route again in the i5. But the i5 try'd to take an Highway Exit with Highway speed, tried to engage 3 times, even in the corner it tried to accelerate quickly to 130kmh (85mph), my Tesla dropped the Speed continuesly himself and drove the corner easy with 40mph. On another sharp S- like City Curve, the i5 took that good and than couldn't manage on the end to get the affordable Steering Angle and just disabled withe a very silent tone and run in the Opposite Lane (luckily there was no one). My Model Y just did this and on the end braked slightly and kept driving in his lane, no problem at all. There where other things too. Bmw System is a great help, but i hope if i ever fell uncounscious or something like that it is in my Tesla and not in any Bmw, because at this moment the i5 should be the latest and greatest thing Bmw has, even better than i7.
Had the model Y for 3 weeks now. Previously I had the Volvo S90. I can say I’m quit disappointed with the Tesla enhanced auto steering. There are many programmable issues like unrecognized road speed signs, aggressive steering wheel behavior, only center lane driving(many places in which you want to be on the left or right there is no way), no way to change lanes without assistance( very slow), no way to disengage just the auto steering only by jiggling the wheel(forcefully), the Tesla restricts you to speed limit in some cases where the road is great thinking the road is bas(3 years ago), beeps loudly very annoying, engaging from the side column isn’t easy, phantom breaks a lot for no reason, strong breaking when car in front stops(and late), strong start at time after a stop(in auto steering dynamic speed control), speed limit is wrong many times, no sensors in the steering wheel making holding the steering wheel and twisting a must, very forceful. There is an overall sense that the system-car knows best…absolutely not a good idea. I live in Israel by the way. We do have congested roads but road signs is good European style. Having said that BMW order delay is about 18 months here 😢🎉. What surprises me most is how many of the problems could have been fixed. From better sounds, allowing lane changes and auto steering reengaging by itself, no penalty by the car - I forgot to mention that. If the car is mad at you NO AUTO STEERING UNTIL END OF TRIP! Very disappointed. This car cost about 115K over here mind you 😢
Tesla enhanced auto pilot is superior. It’s strange that Tesla has not released that base features of the auto pilot in UK. Like auto lane change, stopping at traffic lights slowing down at yellow lights.
I own both a BMW iX50 and a Tesla Model 3. I must say Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) is a bit better than BMW's Driver Assistance Package (DAP). Additionally, Tesla can perform emergency avoidance in almost any sudden accident, something that BMW cannot do.
This Tesla does not have FSD (Full self drive) so not a fair comparison at all. Plus driving in a straight road is no test. Drive the BMW in a bendy country road and then compare it with the FSD. Then and then only you can compare the best vs best. You could let Tesla almost drive on its own, vary speed, stop at red lights and then start driving plus bend corners even when there is rain or fog. So not a fair video or fair comparison.
I bought Tesla Model 3 a month back. Drove ix and ix3 for 1 hour with Driver Assist Prof. Merc on EQE. Nothing match tesla lane centering especially on curve roads. BMW just gives up and Merc found 10% on another lane. What really bad in tesla is speed limit recognition and lack of heads up display in 3 and Y. Rest with FSD beta anyway it has no match. In drive quality and luxury tesla stands no chance even in Model S and X.
Idk, when BMW named the system as 'driving assistant' instead of autopilot, then you're actually comparing 2 different feature. Go test with driver sleeps in it
We've been out with 2022.28 and Tesla Vision, same roads, similar conditions. and if you were worried about the BMW trying to kill the driver! Video of the key points coming soon.
The video is a year old, but tesla AP (outside US and Canada FSDb programme, so a massive market) have a worsening experience than even this video shows. New owners of Tesla without parking sensors don’t get park assist, summon etc. so I’m afraid you’re the Tesla fanboys and ignorant to the reality for many many Tesla owners.
I way it’s better nothing touch FSD on Tesla. All BMW is is adaptive cruise with lane keep assist. Where is the digital representation of people walking on sidewalks, baby’s in strollers all situation awareness. Autopilot is so misused Tesla has two different version of it. Will the BMW back me out of my driveway and drive to work without touch the wheel once?this includes lights stop signs highway exits ….nope end of story
Tesla can’t either. The video says Tesla have a US beta but it’s focusing on the here and now. I buy a car for what it does, not what Musk promises might come one day. I’ve had a Tesla for 4 years and still waiting for Tesla to deliver on its promise, next car won’t be a Tesla.
Yes the bmw can back you out of your driveway ... It can drive to your work but Europe's rules don't allow so it is there but can't be engaged ...plus it remembers my last 30 meters incase I'm stuck or I drove to a hard place to drive out it will redo my steps but in reverse
Tesla quality is bad. You could see how much it shakes on the road vs BMW. Also Tesla's range always under its EPA, while the BMW i4 is actually exceeding its EPA by quite a bit. You aren't able to drive the Tesla from home to work without touching the wheel. You have to drive normally for sure at some point. The stuff Musk promised is nowhere near arriving yet. And btw, yes BMW can park and back you out a driveway.
They always have. Tesla’s a Fad. Try selling an electric car with a 3-4 year old battery. It’s the price of dirt. Fuck the planet I want an engine that hits 300,000K with oil changes and premium gas. And AWD BABY!!! Oh fuck yea 👊🏻😍👍
