I’m ordering my Tesla by August/September here in the USA.I have watched many videos and yours have been the most straightforward and informative. I also usually dislike voiceovers but I have to tell you, I find your voice calming (just a side note haha) I’ll be using your referral code and thank you!
@@SpawnPoiint aah i love this! its nice to see americans watching little ole us Brits videos! Thats a pretty good claim to fame for you ;) and you're getting your accent on the map too! From, fellow south west 'un. loving the videos. These people are correct. Your vids are informative, straight forward, compelling and shot really well. congrats on a fab channel.
For anyone who sees this now (April 2022): So at least in the US, the LR doesn’t come with a year of premium connectivity (I just bought it after my 30 days was up, in my LR, it was like $99 USD per year). Also I think the RWD now comes with heated rear seats and the audio system, although I believe the interior is still the same. The RWD is slower now in acceleration as well (would have to check but it’s 5.8 seconds I believe 0-60mph), and the LR is fractionally faster (4.2). All prices have gone up by a good deal now as well.
I agree the sensible me picked the LR as well. I've had those rubber band tires on my S3, have an 80 mile commute and never track my cars. I picked up the LR and added the Acceleration boost which gets me down to 3.7sec 0-60 not bad at all that's RS3 speed. I even selected the magnetic ride S3 due to the comfort mode but it still felt like I was ripping the wheels off when i hit a pot hole or was on a bad road. The one thing I do miss out on that I hear they're adding soon is track mode for the LR. Not being able to adjust the traction control features is a real downside of the standard and long range. If you ever want to do a track event you're stuck with a very limited traction control and have to bypass it by manually disabling the system. At minimum track mode should be included if you buy the Acceleration boost.
I ordered the M3 LR AWD for the same reasons as you. Performance model is too low (I live in Norway, on a farm with fairly nasty roads), less comfortable, too big rims (more expensive tires, bigger chance of a pothole wrecking them), and has no trailer hitch option. I did order the 19" sport rims on mine though, which I've since regretted as I didn't know about the standard rims having a removable cover (which I found extremely ugly, and initially thought was non removable). Almost a month and a half since I ordered, so I don't want to change the order now and push back the delivery date. If the Performance came with an option to have the same ride height as the LR, as well as a trailer hitch option and 19" rims, I might have gone for that instead.
I would definitely choose the long range. It would be nice to still have a decent range even when using the battery between 80% and 20% so you get a longer life out of it.
Getting larger wheels than 18" makes no sense. It significantly reduces range, slows acceleration, makes the ride worse, and makes it much easier to damage wheels and tires. I would buy a Performance model today, if I could get it with 18" wheels. I know there are after market options, but spending time and money getting new wheels on a brand new car is the last thing I want to do.
I was leaning towards the Performance model at first, mainly because the performance gap between the LR and P was so big. But when I learned there's a performance upgrade package available for the LR it brought performance for me in the sweet spot. Also: for people that would like to exchange the Tesla rims for third party rims; there's a much larger choice of 18/19" rims, which don't fit the Performance model's larger breaks. The regular suspension with higher ground clearance is a positive for me as well. Finally, I don't like that carbon fibre spoiler so with a Performance model, I would have removed that anyway.
@@SpawnPoiint it's my home town so easy to recognise. I've only seen a couple of model 3s around here so they're still a novelty. Fingers crossed more appear and then onto the 2nd hand market in the future 🤞
Nice presented video on the reasons for your choice. I have the LR and so far no regrets. It is worth mentioning I had the choice of getting the 19in alloys but decided against them because they are fitted with Chinese Hankook tyres and not the standard Michelin ones which in my opinion are a more proven and superior tyre. When you purchase a Tesla with it's price tag I decided to avoid the budget tyres. Having said that it is horses for courses and each to their own.
Same here. I really like the looks of the performance. But it is kind of useless. Managed to sell it to my wife to "upgrade" to the performance(lol) but now I am seriously thinking to safe that money and change the order back to a LR model. Very nice and informative video. One of the most honest I have seen as many "suggest" the Performance as it is the "best".... Thank you!
Congratulations on reaching 10k subs. and well deserved. I also went for the Long Range AWD version and for all the same reasons. I'm very happy that I did and would make the same choice again :)
I LOVE your registratio stickers and your videos pushed me for a research where to find similar in Nordic. And I found!!! Model 3 Long Range, white with white interior, aero wheels is ordered and will come August/September. Accessories: Rally Armor mudflaps with white logo, matte screen protection, Matsky all weather mats including frunk and trunk, Bola B2R lightweight 18 inch wheels in gloss gun metal for winter rims, doors sound reduction seals, juice booster 2 master travel kit. Later on plan to cover centtal console with white matte vinyl. Glass and body ceramic coatic from CarPro. Thanks for explanation and everything sounds pretty logical for me! Keep going with your videos and share your experience. Cheers from 🇸🇪.
I made the same choice following much the same logic. The Performance model is fun but the wheel/tyre combination is just too uncomfortable and expensive to replace if you damage a wheel - £1k per corner wheel/tyre combined versus £500 for the 18”. And those low-profile tyres on poor roads are much more vulnerable to allowing the wheel to be destroyed by a pothole. When you add in the £1.5k acceleration boost, you have a more comfortable “stealth” Performance (now just 0.6 of a second slower to 60) for £8.5k less with the identical interior and a more comfortable ride. And who needs “track mode”? How often would the average performance driver take their car to the track?
Im trying to convince my dad ev's are good so i hope i can make a good argument with this vid. Cause im very sure we'll never buy it with our circumnstances, but who knows
Wish I’d seen your channel before I ordered a 2021 SR+ last week, I still think for what I need, this will do the job, but after reviewing your decision making it think I’ll will cancel my order (probably losing my £100 deposit) to order a new LR. I do feel a LR will hold it’s value better and appeal to a greater audience in the future, whilst residual values will come under a little pressure as the car ages and more used examples hit the market place. Plus in the mean time you get the benefits you described in your video. I think the extended range, all wheel drive and upgraded speaker system will help future proof the car mor3 than the SR+, however it is a mighty close call. Finally, and personally I will be sticking with the 18” as I think the dark grey contrast is a better match (on a white car) than 19” silver alloys for an additional £1400. My only decision now is which home charger I want, and I’m leaning towards the Tesla own charger, based purely on aesthetic. P.s. every cloud has a silver lining, if I lose my £100 deposit, I’ll at least be able to use your referral code to soften the blow. Keep up the good work 👍
Great thinking there mate. I guess ultimately you chose the SR+ for a reason, but if you feel the LR is better suited, now is the best time to make that change. Best of luck whichever you go for.
Back in August I too ordered the LRAWD but I was really lucky and was offered the unicorn P- so all the benefits of the long range 18" wheels etc but with the 3.2 second acceleration, unfortunately they now no longer offer this as an option, but to say im over the moon with this car is an understatement , congratulations on the 10k subs.
I went for the mid-range much for the same reasons, especially the point about having kids, who absolutely love having the entertainment package in the car. We make a long trip every other month to see relatives and always stopped off half way for snacks at the services. My thinking was that it wouldn’t make any difference having an EV and here I was wrong. The kids now stay in the car leaving me free to have a proper break. Haha
Michael Gapp Yeah right now the wife and I are talking about the overall cost and I’m trying to tell her that if we were to get her a hybrid it would cost more in 3 to 5 years then the model three even though the model three cost or. She will be getting the model three and I’m going to be waiting until the fall for the model Y since I haven’t been to stoked on the build quality of that one just yet. I found another breakdown video showcasing the price comparisons of a bunch of different vehicles in the model three that was really good and I’m probably gonna show that to her to help her understand.
@@thibaultgrosse4442 just for my own knowledge. What sound are you guys referring to? Do you mean the road noise? electric motor sound? I didn't know there was a sound difference between the different configurations. Interesting.
Thank you for your video! I made my mind up and am choosing the long-range dual motor! I originally was going with the performance, but the tire cost, and other costs including a harsh winter, weren't worth it. And so I set to get the long -range!
I've ordered the long range. The audio is a big deal for me and I was very disappointed with the standard set up considering how much you are paying in the first place. Extra distance and just being a little bit quicker made sense too.
The more I look at your car, the more I like the 18" dark gray wheels over the 19" silver wheels. The contrast looks better when you have a white exterior on darker wheels.
Sorry but the extra hp is not needed in real life, regardless of what you say. I have a 2018 Leaf and in over 2 years of driving, have not had any issues getting up to speed or passing - ever. And that is a 7-8 second 0-60 Leaf. Never mine a 5 second Model 3. The performance from any BEV is good enough to get speeding tickets and with traction control off, lay a decent strip of rubber from the start of a set of traffic lights. I agree on the LR features you mentioned but just like Ludicrous speed, it is ludicrous to spend that extra money for it. IMO.
I understand what you’re saying, and I agree it’s your opinion. I had a 335i before, sure I could have settled for a 320d, but I wanted more. Same goes with this, the extra power is awesome.
Good video. I totally agree with your logic. The Long Range AWD makes even more sense for me as I live in Canada where it is very cold and snowy for half the year and you can expect to loose about 40% of your range under those conditions.
That's why I got the same Long Range with the exception mines has 19 in alloys. It's a better all around buy. Especially if you live in a place where there is winter
Excellent description, we also choose the long range model, for the four wheels drive, and the battery capacity, I was tempted for the performance model, but to much money for not so much additional attractions, thank you.
Seriously looking at Tesla for future. Long range feels right 0-60 does not concern me. Tesla charging seems to be a great service. Have been used to Honda SUV CR-V since whenever so can I get stuff to the tip in a Model 3? Should I wait for a Y?
Hi Chris, really enjoyed this video. Totally agree with your choice, seems like a no brainer. However other websites show that the extra range from the SR+ to the LR is nowhere near the acclaimed figures. Can you shed any light on this. I'm close to ordering the LR is there anything I should do before I order, sure I've read that you need to get the free miles before you place your order, is this right ? I'm fascinated by your tech knowledge as I don't even have a smart phone ( yes I'm of an age ) do I need to be tech savvy to get to grips with this car ???
Thanks for watching and commenting. I can’t comment on other people’s range or efficiency, but I know I get around 300 easily. You don’t need to be tech savvy to drive the car, but you’ll want to get yourself keyed up on the settings and what it can do, to get the most out of it.
@@SpawnPoiint - thanks for that, forgot to ask, do you know when the M3 will get a heat pump, have one in my Prius, they are so efficient. Your voice is familiar , sure I've heard it on other car reviews. Is that your job ?
I have no idea unfortunately, would be a great addition though. I’m honestly a nobody, so you’ll never have heard me before. RU-vid is just a side hobby for me (day job is web design).
Decisions, decisions. Daily driver, long range, fun driver, performance. For the difference in cost, currently, you can buy a lot of aftermarket extras (carbon ceramics!) and still save money. But, that 0-60 time... Log trips and range anxiety are compelling though. Help!
Currently haveing to do the same choice as you had to do , im mainly struggeling with Not buying the SR+ over either of the other , the prices here in norway atm are SR+ = 29.5k gbp LR = 38k gbp PF = 42k gbp
Why don't they just simply extend the range by having less powerful motors. Isn't 0-60 in 8 seconds and a top speed of 120MPH a greener and more sensible approach?
I get my LR in 2 weeks, same balance I made, 9 times out of 10 not going to need the performance but if you want to say "I beat you and it's not even the fast one" and still do more more than 250 real world miles on a full charge, it's the obv choice saving £10/15k against the performance 👍
@@SpawnPoiint I've seen pretty much every single video on tesla that you have made and others that have mentioned you in their videos. Im in america going to get my tesla in the next week or so and this channel has helped so much in the process. Do you have any more plan for future car videos? Id love to see more, its almost like watching a show!
Nice video , as always I went for the standard range plus , I contemplated the long range but couldn’t justify 7k for 94 miles , to me it didn’t make sense Keep up the great uploads
I came to the same conclusion as yourself and ordered the LR but with Sport Wheels as they where available when I ordered. I just have to wait until the 10th now to pick it up from Bristol. I will be using your referral so expect another 1000 free miles.
Strange, your long range model in the UK is rated for 348 miles, but the US version is rated for 322. Is there some sort of different range testing they do across the pond?
Sensible reasoning. Longer range - better to have than not. Now that the LFP exists and is being used in the SR+, how long do you think before it makes its way to the LR and the M-Y.
4 wheel drive is a requirement for weather here in Southern Ontario winters. 14 speakers and a sub best personal request for me. Respecting your shopping skills. I want FSD as well. I want to buy as many future forward improvements as possible. Speed not a high priority. Our public roads are overly jammed with ICE cars & trucks.
@@SpawnPoiint thanks! I think you’ve helped me make up my mind a little. I have a dilemma of whether I go for a 2020 Model 3 performance with very low miles for roughly the same money as a brand new 2021 Model 3 long range. I simply cannot decide! Sounds like you’d go for the long range all day!
I made exactly the same decision for the same reasons. Living in California, the land of potholes, I did not want 20 inch wheels with the low profile tires. I could care less about the spoiler. I paid for the performance upgrade so my 0-60 is 3.9 and the car is awesomely fast off the line. I have had mine three months and love it. No regrets about my decision. Build quality was also excellent. I had one very minor paint issue which Tesla fixed and otherwise the car has been perfect.
your explanation was very useful to me, although I am planning on buying a model Y long-range later this year. I do agree with your reasoning for buying your car. Thanks.
I went with a white PM3-. Same acceleration as a performance model but with the suspension and wheels of the dual motor. Not sure how much this config costs now, but when I purchased it saved me about 6500 from the price of the full performance version. I totally agree with your assessments and reasoning for going with the 18in wheels and softer/taller suspension. Love the way your spoiler looks, may need to get one:)
Can’t remember if I said already but I made the same decision to go for the long range like yourself, awaiting an anticipated arrival of it second week March 🤞 great video and explanation tho👍
Well done on 10,000 subs mine is the same apart from blue paint The number plates got a lot of comments from my work mates just want lock down to end So I can take them out in it
I like the front license. I have the same version, with same color and seats configuration, but I choose the 19", mostly for the nicer look compare to the plastic cover, and also go the towing kit to carry bikes or use a trailer to carry larger items not fitting into the trunk. I wish the Model 3 was a hatchback like the Model S. May be in the future I will consider the Model Y but I would prefer a smaller size Model 2 (?) with a hatchback like the VW ID.3
How was the quality of assembly? Paying all this money for a car with defects and misaligned body panels is frustrating. Tesla is famous for having bad paint job especially on Model 3 and Model Y...
FYI (long term tesla stock holder here) FSD price will go up and up and up. Buy it now before its 10,15k (it will hit that). FSD is currently sitting at Level for out of 5. Unfortunately due to current laws its software is held back to Level 1.5. It will go live within the next 5 years. ANOTHER fun point the FSD computer and software is worth more than any Tesla vehicle :).
Thanks - we got AWD LR as well, I have read somewhere that the SR+ is lighter and therefore does more miles per kWh ? But I agree it’s nice to have the extra range so you can drive wherever without any range anxiety
It’s a hard decision but I went with the performance.no regrets.warp speed.cars over 50k no longer get the £3500 discount which makes the long range a better buy.mine was £53000 so at the time £3100 more than the long range at £49900 before they announced the 1.5k performance upgrade so if buying today the long range is the sweet spot. Personally I would have always wondered about getting a performance version so would never be happy. Check my channel (Tartan Tesla )
One of the best reviews I have seen. Very nicely explained the difference between all the 3 models. Well done. This will help me a lot in making a decision as I am looking to buy one very soon :) Thank you
just bought a long range in red with the white interior and I had the same thought process as you in which to buy... mine is not new but nearly and saved another £8K will pick it up next week... and a big thank you for your time and effort you put into all of your videos
When I watch your videos I want a Tesla but then I read/watch other stuff and all the issues people have worry me as i seem to be a problem magnet. Great quality video 👍
From a Tesla owner, yes there are problems, keep in mind tesla is more a tech company than a car company, but, it's amazing, constant software updates (for free) improve my car, autopilot is just amazing, and Netflix while you charge is very good for the kids( but they only get 15 mins since it charges very fast)
