Dude I’ve watched a load of your videos as I’m getting a model 3 next week and they’ve helped me a lot thanks for taking time to make these vids appreciated!!
500 superchargers but far fewer sites. Great diagrams! Love these videos about chargers. Yet to use one but takes away the apprehension. About to take a trip to Dorset.
Thanks Kiran! Good point, I think the location count is around the 65 mark at the moment. I was a bit nervous using one for the first time so glad to help alleviate that, enjoy Dorset!
Hi Jonathan. In case you don’t already know, there’re 8 superchargers at East Midlands Designer outlet where you started this video. Believe they might be V3 but I know they’re 250kW. Handy next time you’re up this way.
Hi JD I’ve watched all your Tesla videos and they are excellent. I am planning to buy model 3. But I live in a flat with only street parking available. The nearest Tesla supercharger is 45 miles away. There are only a couple of CCS 50kW charging points near my place. Would you recommend buying model 3? or do you think I better get a house first? Thanks so much.
Thanks very much Cliff! Hmm, I think a 90 mile round trip to a supercharger would be too inconvenient, so unless you're driving past that regularly anyway, I don't think you'd want to rely on it as your main charging method. The main problem with the two 50kW chargers I think would be availability - if one goes down or if it's busy you could be waiting a long time. I remember reading about one guy who had a cable coming out of his house onto the pavement outside (underneath a covering, after agreement from the council) to charge - not sure if that's something you'd consider?! So at the end of the day, I think it boils down to how much you're going to be driving and how much you're willing to compromise. One of the best things in my opinion about having an electric car is that you can just plug it in when you get home, and if you're constantly having to think about where/how you'll next charge it, it will definitely take some of the shine off owning one, at least it would for me. Hope that helps, or at least gives you something to think about!
When you collect the car day 1, I assume the staff at the handover should enable the car on your account and thus you are good to Supercharge on the way home?
For what you're paying per month what's the benefit over let's say a decent used diesel because after doing some number crunching the Tesla makes zero sense
Does the car start preconditioning if we navigate to a 3rd party charger? I mean locate the charger using Zap-Map, share the route to the car navigation.
95% of UK resident has no driveway or garage or if your a Londoner 100% but people are still buying Tesla. I have Long range which I rely on public charging. In London you have resident EV charging which you get to use as parking over night and cheap 7kwt charge at the same time. And Tesla super charge third party rapid charge available all over the Europe. Theres more EV chargers available than petrol/Diesel station. Private garage/driveway is just an silly excuse. Guys don’t miss out on your Tesla. Tesla is your future it’s your iCAR smart car, Just like your iPhone. Just think of it like this will you go back to Nokia from your iPhone.
@@teslaicar8173 - it’s too late now. I won’t be getting an EV until I’m forced to now with what the UK government has done with the grant removal and change to the amount. They can go f**k themselves.
Very clear and simply informative. When you have not done this before it’s good to know. Have done any paint protection solutions? My previous cars have had Life Shine, but when I contacted them they Tesla did cover it ?
Great content JD, thanks, I should be getting a Model 3 for my next company car in Feb, it’s the charging network that swayed it for me. Thanks for NOT doing a 0-60 test!! What home wall box do you have? How are you finding the charging times on 7kw?
Thanks! The charging network definitely makes things a lot easier and less stressful. So, I currently just have the commando socket installed (there's a video on that if you want to check it out), as I'm in between houses during lockdown. I'm thinking I'll go for the Andersen charger when I do get one, which is more expensive, but from what I've seen it looks very slick. I go into the charge times a little more in that home charging video, but basically I've found it fine, albeit with a reduced mileage at the moment given the circumstances!
Stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway because I'll pick up my M3 in a few weeks 😊 Is it okay to reverse right up to the black and white bump before the supercharger (with the tyres pressing against it) without risk of damaging the car (e.g. rear bumper or underside)?
@@jdhartwell732 Should have picked it up Christmas Eve but the Covid Tiers stopped that. Now picking up tomorrow as I am in the same Tier as the pick up point - very excited!
Great videos. Do you have a video about how to buy a Tesla, the costs involved vs another non Tesla car including insurance etc? I heard Tesla have higher insurance prices. I have a Vauxhall Mokka E at the moment which is my first ev, I’d love a Tesla but worried it’s to expensive for what you get vs what I already have, maybe in 4 years Tesla will be cheaper?
Thanks Kian! Will try and get that into a video soon. I'd definitely say I'll be sticking with electric cars for the future, and right now, I think the best choice is Tesla. It'll be very interesting to see what competitors come up with in the next 3 years though!
Hey Kian, yes, sorry, I've been a bit busy recently to get another one in! I will certainly do one once I've moved and had a full wall charger installed and will also get a full 6 month overview in as well.
Thanks John. The outdoor/handheld shots are all done using an iPhone 11 Pro Max on a DJI Osmo gimbal. The in-car mounted view is from the DJI Osmo Pocket mounted to the roof with a suction cup, and the talking heads are from a Canon M50.
Hello there JD, fantastic video - thanks for showing the practical side of using the network. I'm getting a model 3 LR delivered to my home next week! I wonder if it will be fully charged?! Would I be able to use your link for the thousand miles if the car has already been ordered? Thanks very much for your time. M.
Would love to own a Tesla. The only problem I have with it is the superchargers and how many there are scattered around the UK, as I go to Scotland frequently for holidays, and I always stay in the countryside so finding a supercharger out there would be a bit of a trip.
