For some reason, HUDs in cars have never taken off. I remember helping advise a friend by a new car over 15 years ago, a Nissan of some sort. It had a superb HUD - dead centre above drive's position on the windscreen and therefore in the field of vision of the road. But they didn't keep that option on future models. Perhaps they are effected by sunlight, reflections etc? Or perhaps the projection tech is not that reliable yet?

Alex Blok maybe it was not reliable in the past but with new technology, I believe it works fine. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Chevrolet have HUD and it works fine from what I see.

You can get one in a Prius too, but Toyota charges an arm and a leg for it.

Ive driven some BMWs with it, most of the time the hud works fine. Sometimes the sun affects it tho.

What if I want to get into the glove box while the car is off? I need to turn the car on and wait for the touchscreen to boot up first? What if I want to get into the glove box while the car is charging and simply cannot turn it on at that time? Certain tasks just simply do not require software and adding it only makes things more complicated.

still it takes me less time to open the glove box with one movement of my hand instead of going through the menu to search for the option. Especially if i'm maybe in a different part of the menu or in another app. And no speed meter sucks cuz looking sideways to the screen is distracting and dangerous and does hurt your neck...

Agree with glovebox, at that point it's just showing off and not making it any cheaper or better, completely pointless. But there have been cars where all instruments are in the middle of the dashboard. Lancia Ypsilon has had that for 20 years now, and i mean they redesigned the car 4 times in the meanwhile, and kept middle instruments, so apparently this quirk hasn't annoyed enough people for them to change. The owners say it's "not as bad as it initially seems", no issues apart from your annoying passengers being even more annoying. An advantage of centre instruments is that they allow the speedo to be higher up so you really need to move your eyes less. Citroën C4 and FIAT Idea also have centre speedo. If i were to bet, i think Tesla will introduce a speedo HUD option, where it gets projected right onto a shaded portion of the windscreen just for the driver,

AC would continue as is, as would acceleration and braking, and wipers and turn signals and parking and reverse, and music, etc.

Essentially owners will be able to have there cars earn them money while they’re not using them. Having the glovebox open via the display means they will easily be able to lock it while the car is in ride share mode.

Account 47 cars have had valet keys and lockable glove boxes for decades. It could have had a computer controlled lock but still a simple latch opening mechanism. This is just pseudo futuristic nonsense. Now you have to take your eyes off the road and tap a non tactile touch screen to open it up, but my old ass car I can reach over completely blind and know exactly where the latch is. The computer controlled vents are going to be a disaster too. Anyone that works on cars is going to see all this unnecessarily motorized garbage and wince.

I think Tesla intended the Model 3 to be used more as a vehicle to be driven in rather than to drive. The lack of a gauge cluster is in my opinion the biggest hint. I doubt Tesla was aiming to make the next Drivers car (if you want that there are plenty of other options) but instead to make the first autonomous personal transportation vehicle.

NeFtY any car you buy new has a base model on which you add options. This has always been the case. The options for the tesla re just much more advanced and high tech than a normal car

It probably feels worse in the case of this Tesla because you are paying for software, not hardware. These features need to simply be unlocked, so it feels more like a rip-off. Second, the auto-pilot features are WIP, so you are paying a large sum to be essentially a beta tester.

Because of that, the technology is going to be constantly improved as time goes on. Honestly, $10k it's a very fair price for what you are getting. Add $23k extra for additional 76 miles on Model S (75D vs 100D) vs $9k for additional 90 miles on Model 3 (standard vs longer range). So close, right? Here in CA, base Model 3 is ~$25k after incentives vs $60k for base Model S. Model 3 is CHEAP for what it offers.

Basically, as I understand it, you pay all that money just for software unlock the auto pilot that you have build in. And I'm sure, if that is true, there will be people who fill unlock it manually somehow. Anyway, there is many-many better options for 44k $ on the market. Remember, that you don't get anything for this price, not even a heated seats, and no autopilot, no free charge at Teslas super chargers, no premium sound, no nothing. Most of other car brands can offer far more options for 44$, take a look at Honda Accord, or Huydai Sonata, Toyota Camry - all those cars will be far better option for that amount of money. And you won't need to plan your trip based on superchargers. Plus, those cars are much safer, because you won't get in to the accident while you search the display menu to change the vent flow direction, or adjusting the mirrors, or opening glovebox... If you do care too much for the nature ant believe that one more Tesla (the one you'll buy) can help with global warming - then go buy Nissan Leaf now, Don't wait another year for Model 3 while you drive GAS car. P.S: Yes, I know, my English sucks.

Cant forget that, depending on your state, you can get a HUGE deduction on that price. Some states offer 10k-15k incentives for buying electric. Base model is base model. Which a lot of people want.

The Nvidia gpu alone costs 1500 dollars retail price. If you factor in the cameras, radar and lidar you would end up with pretty much 4k or 4,5k dollars. And don't forget the servers, Tesla satelites, and OTA software engineers. If they were not putting in the hardware on every car, production would get overly complicated and if a buyer would like to add the hardware afterwards it would cost far more than 5k dollars because they would have to open up the car, drill holes, lay cables and update the software AND quality check the autonomous driving capability for each individual car, thus keepign the car for an extended period of time. By adding the hardware from the get-go it becomes cheaper for the buyer and less hassle for the production team. Now if you were to buy a Model 3 and never upgrade to full autonomy you don't lose any money. Tesla, though, will have lost some money. Do you have a car in Singapore? I've been there a couple of weeks ago and almost all the cab drivers complain that it's expensive for them to buy vehicles

Singapore is so small but the population is very big, if everyone were to have a car it would be traffic jam mania, thats why rhe government put very high taxes for cars

Range is not the point, it's recharge time. What good are 310 ml range if you have to drive 400 ml and have to stop for an hour to recharge?

Your point is sound, but I assume someone who buys one of those electric cars understands those limitations, and only uses it for daily commutes; Which is what it's best use would be anyway.

KingShoter007 I believe he means. because if you're vegan. You're helping the word because eating meat. The meat industry wastes tons of gallons of water. And not being vegan ruins the environment and impacts it. And since the car doesn't use gas and doesn't have the effects gas vehicles do.
