Took my wife into work this morning (in our SR+, 2019), covering 56.1 miles of mixed driving in wind and rain...with a bit of brisk overtaking acceleration to get the endorphins going (gone are the days of getting stuck behind stuff...and, perhaps paradoxically, makes driving much less stressful, and safer). The car used 11kWh, resulting in a 'charge-at-home' cost of £0.88. Makes you feel good all the time. I'll pick her up later, and the traffic will be mad. We'll remain chilled however, cocooned in our magnificent, semi self-driving, comfortable travelling environment, with some good music soothing us, through a really good sound system. It'll still be raining, but the wipers will be 'voice controlled' through the 'right' scroll wheel, and the lights will be taking care of themselves. What more can you ask?

Hey @teslabjorn, on those results you posted at 10:57, the 350mi in the 90km/h test lines up almost perfectly with the American EPA rating of 353mi. *Very impressive* IMO. Also, maybe the extra weight in the battery pack accounts for the slightly lower efficiency vs the MIC SR+...

Good to know, unfortunately there are not exactly "short distance" tests on YT, so I have some questions: How long do you have to drive approximately to get these low values? Or is this only a problem in the winter to heat up the battery and in the summer you have it from the start? Would maybe just parking in a garage in winter be enough to not have to condition the battery? I don't care for supercharging, only low consumption.
@joopvanroy6599
@joopvanroy6599 3 года назад
@@minjung3350 It's 25 celcius here now, perfect temps for the battery. In winter it's definitely not as efficient because I don't have a heat pump in my car. Shielding the car from cold winter temps is certainly one way to improve efficiency!

The average speed for WLTP is much lower at 46.5 km/h with a maximum at 131 km/h So I think that getting about 90% of WLTP is just about perfect actually. For my own gasoline car (1.0l 3 cyl. Ford) I get about 80-85% of the WLTP under ideal circumstances. And yes it's about to be replaced with an EV, but still waiting for cheaper EVs that can still tow. :-)
@ivancajka732
@ivancajka732 3 года назад
The longer you wait the more you going to spend on gasoline and servicing your car which is going to eat up all your savings on purchasing some cheap magical EV in the future. Buy a Model 3 now and you don't have to worry for the next 10+ years Also when EVs become cheaper and mainstream, the incentives are going to end so in the end you are paying the same amount of money out of pocket. I got a 12.000€ incentive on my m3

@@Baffacof I get similar numbers than the Tesla, more or less, on a Kona. At slower speeds (relative) it's champion, but over 90, Tesla 3 takes over, then the Kona turns into a brick in the wind. :) Of course it all doesn't matter anymore at a fast charger, takes at least 30mins to get 200km range back.

WLTP range is a different test as you said. It is a mix or highway and city driving. City driving makes a big difference. If you look at EPA city and EPA highway ranges for the Teslas, you will see they are more efficient at slower speeds and using re-gen. Some other EVs get terrible city efficiency and so their highway test is better than their overall range rating...

Wow! Here in South West France the regular roads are limited to between 70-90km/hr, mostly 80. The weather is generally warm and dry. For me this is a genuine 600km car, although I think I may choose the LFP Standard Plus. There's a big appeal to just leaving it on the driveway, and charging to 100% from Solar every day. The rare occasions I'd need the range of the LR is so rare that I may as well just charge a few more times (I'll be stopping every 250 miles anyway).

Now Range(120km/h) is 563km * 90km/h / 120km/h = 422 (that we masure and and calculate !!!!!!!) Now can we calculate speed where we have promissed WLTP range 614km? Promissed WLTP Range we have at v(prommised WLTP range) = kWh/100km(90km/h) * 90km/h / 614km(prommised WLTP range) v(prommised WLTP Range) = 563 * 90 / 614 =82.52 km :) In that way we can calculate any range for any speed from cca 50km/h to car limit :)

So, since EVs have better range for city driving, 614km could be realistic?
@BigBoss1696
@BigBoss1696 3 года назад
I think yes, you are driving at lower speed in city and you are regenerating more ..
@AndersKnutsenBrille
@AndersKnutsenBrille 3 года назад
Regeneration is not the reason it has more range for mixed driving, but the lower average speed is. Driving at a constant low speed with no accelerating or braking/regeneration yields the longest range.
@MrPikkoz
@MrPikkoz 2 года назад
@@AndersKnutsenBrille Agreed, it's about the lower average speed . People don't realize that while regen does help a lot with efficiency in city driving ,it still recover only about 65% ish of the energy .

Nice numbers! Still, my (and I know one car is not a measurment for the whole fleet) Ioniq 28 is averaged at 133Wh/km @110 km/h by ABRP averaging algorithms using live data (EVnotitify PnP). My tires are All season Michelin, standard size, but I've raised cold tire pressure to 2.8 bar, while defined standard for the car is 2.4 bar. Model 3 go home? ;-)

@@zedski when Bjørn repeatedly said "Ioniq go home", and only that I'm referring to, he's clearly only talking about efficiency - and nothing else. Otherwise, and that's going to be interesting: Watch out for EQS 450+. A german journalist with very good reputation has been driving it "at Autobahn speeds" (upto 150 km/h, 106 km/h average IIRC) for over 600 km. @@OenkePoenke He said so when testing the SR+, the efficiency at highway speeds is close to a 28kWh Ioniq with a battery twice the size so yeah ...
@OenkePoenke
@OenkePoenke 3 года назад
See the table: SR+ MIC measured 166 Wh/km at 120 km/h *max* speed while my/ABRPs measurement is 133 Wh/km at 110 km/h *average* (and GPS, but Bjørn compensates for the latter). According to EVcalc, Model 3 has Cw*A of 0.51 m², while Ioniq 28 has 0.53m². But M3 has wider tires: 235mm vs 205mm for the Ioniq. With 205 tires, I'm sure M3 would win. And what makes MR LR less efficient vs M3 SR+ is AWD vs RWD rather than weight. Weight is a factor on city trips and WLTP has many city-like passages including many stops - that's why the difference is more significant for heavier EVs there. On long distance trips, weight has a minimal impact on EVs. I'm not writing against Tesla here. I totally honor their achievements and efficiency. I simply question when statements, even when told with an eye blink, seem off to me. Just that :-) Btw, (at least) two more very interesting high volume EVs regarding efficiency are on their way: Ioniq 6 and Tesla Model 2 - and Mercedes' EQE (a real BEV like EQS) prototypes are on the streets aswell. Ioniq 6 (Hyundai's real follow up to the original Ioniq when it comes to efficiency) is on schedule for next year (same for EQE I think), Model 2 unfortunately has no date yet. I'll have a closer look at M2 when it's on the streets :-)

Most EVs now have a certain buffer both above 100% and below 0%. E.g. VW ID.4 has 82 kWh gross capacity, and 77 kWh net capacity. Some OEMs communicate a gross number, some communicate a net number. And Tesla doesn't actually communicate a number at all when you purchase. Just a WLTP/EPA number.
