15:30 19:10 “not the quietest car could use better soundproofing” the 2022 models actually now have double sealed thicker glass windows as a standard. Reduces outside and cabin noise by 30-40% and they now come with performance Pirelli tires which also lower road noise somewhat while still maintaining grip. The outside chrome trim is now blacked out for all models. The center console is no longer glossy black but is now matte black (looks classier) and under the 15’ screen is now a alcantara phone charging pad for 2 phones. The cars also now use LFP battery’s instead of the NCA batteries that were used up until the end of 2021. Overall great improvements for 2022 models

I was on the fence on whether to get a Y performance or model 3 performance. I have 2 young daughters under 4 yrs . Just ordered the model 3 performance few days ago . I couldn’t get past the egg shape or the ninja turtle look . In some angles it’s looks good especially in the 21 “ staggered turbine wheels . But I’m reality it’s not much bigger than the model 3 , just higher seating & more cargo .

it does really good on long trips, you should use regen braking the cars motors slow the car down by it self and it dosnt use the brakes. they act like genarators and charge your car back up. on road trips i gain a lot of miles by using it.

I've got a Giulia Ti Sport and a Model Y LR for the wife. The Alfa has the seats, looks, paint, and engagement but the Tesla drivetrain is just ridiculous and hard to fault. Having all your HP, within a half second and at any speed really elevates your confidence in everyday traffic and one pedal driving rocks. Also regardless of what you read on FB, these are hands down the safest vehicles you can buy. My wife was t-boned in ours at 50 mph by a reckless driver and the stiff pack under the passenger cell 100 percent saved her life.

Traditional auto makers just don’t understand how to incorporate tech into cars in an engaging way the way Tesla has done. It’s such a seamless experience from being out of the car, to auto charging before you leave in the morning, to having the climate and radio preset before you get in the car at the set time… never seen anything close on another car.

As for downshift, play with the regen, that should give you more feeling. Paddles are in some EVs but that's for regen control. Don't think a gear shifter is a thing for EV production, tho Taycan and Audi GT have a type of low/high gearbox. Check out the upcoming Kia EV6 GT 😉

Thanks for your honest thoughts on this. I was an Alfa owner and used to watch your videos. I always wondered why anyone did not compare the Alfa with Tesla as they have a lot in common in how they drive and how they approach driving fun. Yours is the first video in that category. I had a Stelvio Ti Sport and recently moved to a Tesla Model Y SR. Fun fact is that both had same 0-60 of 5.3 seconds. When test driving any EV, only Tesla excited me as an Alfa owner. It was natural that I switched to Model Y when the Alfa lease was up. Coming from Alfa, the build quality and ride quality both were not as good as the Stelvio. But, the steering and one pedal driving blew my mind. My only wish currently is to wait for Alfa to come out with an EV as I don't think anyone else can match with Tesla in how they approached the driving enjoyment, especially in the price range.

thanks for watching the Model 3 Performance was really fun to experience for a few days, I do wish it looked fancier and was built better with nicer quality materials but your getting the car for the technology and once this morphs into other luxury brands the EV option is going to appeal to a much wider audience.

Hello SF Tech. You comment is interesting. I wrote in my other post that the Tesla models are not yet in par as far as handling in sharp curvy roads is concerned. In straight line the sprint speed is superior since it is an EV car. We will be able to make a fair comparison only when other sports car brands start making EV's. Tesla needs to improve the overall handling in all types of roads and the sports car brands need to come up with a good mix of handling integrating the new technology of EV's. Can you explain better what ride quality you were not satisfied with Tesla compare to Alfa?

I’ve had my 2022 model 3 performance for over a yr now . Absolutely the best all around daily driver. 500hp at 95% battery 🔋 + warm battery. Lots of truck space (especially the bottom where a spare tire / gas tank / exhaust normally sits). Easy to clean cuz no buttons on the inside. Also tech obvious most advanced car (I just got FSD beta). Also as a mild offroader not too bad. I got an aluminum skid plate and this thing is so much fun in sand dunes , and even in the mud . One major problem about mud off-roading in a M3P is the car has no mudflaps and wide wheels, so it will spray the entire side and roof with mud if you off-road the shit out of it. Another very key point for people who get the performance is “track mode “ doesn’t make the car any faster it might actually make it slower. The only thing it does is disable traction, control, and potentially make it super dangerous on streets. Track mode starts to cool the battery off and if it’s already room temperature, a cold battery doesn’t perform as well as a warm battery. So regular sports mode is usually the fastest !! especially if you just charge the battery and it’s warm and a high state of charge. Don’t use track mode unless you want to “drift”. I crashed my car on pick up day ,brand new, because I went into drift mode/track mode 😂. That’s part of the reason why I got a new metal skid plate because I ripped it off over a curb.😢😢😢

I don''t mean to be rude to Auto Fanatic or some commenters below, but a geared EV with shifters makes absolutely no sense. Because of the way the motors work, EVs have 100% torque at 0 RPM and can maintain this over a huge range of RPM, unlike an ICE. A gearbox with shifters would add nothing, in fact it would slow the car down thanks to the momentary loss of power during shifts (and the added weight).

I know the model 3 performance is nuts, and i have a QV 2017, they drive so different and both are fun in there different ways. I don't think you can say one is better, it's just different. Nilesh Patel 0 seconds ago Everyone will be so excited with full electric performance and get excited, but in 5-10 years everyone will want to drive emotion and that' s hard to find in electric cars. Gas cars will be the best at emotional driving, may not be the fastest or best handling but will feel more alive then any electric car every will.

There’s no infrastructure for that yet. They r more like a toy for kind of upper middle class ppl that can afford it. I’d like to learn more about evs in your vids like how long it takes to fully charge them and what’s the maintenance? No oil changes. That I know. What about resale value? I heard that it’s horrible.

Remember, EV's are about efficiency all the way down to the bolts. You get the instant power and torque due to the single gear transmission that can spread the power band across one gear. Movement waste energy and for electric cars that's a negative. Also keep in mind the styling of the Tesla's are in line with Elon Musk overall goal of creating a robotaxi network. Although the styling to me is pretty decent to have them look close to the best looking cars on the road is not the mission. For anything to be efficient, there has to be some give and take any many people don't realize this.

Thanks for this - I was wondering how you would react to a performance EV. I have a 2018 QV and love the driver engagement. For me too, the gear change experience, varied shift points etc is part of what I love in a performance vehicle. I drove my first EV recently, a Taycan Turbo, and had a similar reaction to yours with the lack of gearing. That car has a 2-speed transmission though and coming off the highway I felt it downshift and just smiled. Your comment on a 4-speed transmission just for driver engagement is spot on. This car also had a “sport sound” mode, but it sounded too synthetic and I switched it off. Unbelievable performance, but not for me just yet.

When I drove my friends Model S performance I was constantly reaching for paddles. In my Giulia I always use the paddles. His model S was bad build quality because it is a 2014, he said the wind noise in the S at 60 mph was the same as 2017 Giulia at 100. He went through a corner at 90+ in my car because he wasn’t use to how well it masks speed compared to the older s. Their build quality must have improved. The s is a boat so I guess I didn’t get the full Tesla experience. The s was not as nimble as the Giulia, but the 3 is around the same size and has a very low center of gravity so it must be different. Though on the base model 3s (sr+) there is no rear sway bar, so I’m not sure if the handling is compromised.
@autofanaticcars
@autofanaticcars 3 года назад
the build quality on most of these is suffering badly this car is a late 2020 build and every single panel the paint does not match, the rattles and noises as well. they are using very cheap materials throughout and this is why I want other automakers to use this technology with their designs and build quality to make these EV cars awesome one day. it will happen soon enough. If you can drive a Model 3 Performance to compare to the Giulia the reactivity of the chassis and steering feels like the Alfa on steroids but most of that is from the torque vectoring on all 4 wheels but its still impressive to feel and experience.

I was split between a Model S Plaid and a Giulia QV when I couldn't even order a QV for 5 months this year. In the end I waited for the QV because I just couldn't see myself living with the clean room like minimalist interior, and that new Yoke steering wheel. The tech in Tesla is awesome, the exterior design is pretty good too, just let an Italian do the interior design and I could be sold.

Haha! Right, I suspect something like that might eventually be installed, at least to relax consumers minds about the safety of these vehicles. To be honest no matter how much of a regular car experience they design into these EV’s - they are, and will remain, to be just toys as far as I’m concerned. There’s absolutely no way I could trust, or deal with, a car like that for my daily driver, or something I expect to remain reliable, have decent resale value (or increasing value), and that’ll last (batteries wear out). Forget feeling safe in a car accident in these (see Richard Hammond’s accident in the Rimac).

I totally agree with you on this review. I am interested in the performance and the technology of Tesla. But I just can`t get behind the design of the car for the price. I think Tesla fans underestimate how much demand there will be for legacy auto electric cars. That would be pretty cool if they could make a electric car with real motor noise and gears. Electric motors actually produce a loud sound and I don`t understand why so many of them are quiet.

No way I can go back to a petrol/diesel car now. If you turn on the regen- braking just be careful when you get back into a car without that. When you expect a car to brake and it doesn’t it shits you up. 😂

While first impressions are positive, because of the instant torque available, EVs thus far, are harder to live with. On long trips all that torque isn't really used because it drains the batteries too quickly, so your EV become more similar to a Prius, being driven slowly on the highway. I like road trips to explore places, my Giulia Quad is perfect. A Tesla on the same trip would add an element of stress because of the need to recharge it so frequently. There are also places where charging stations aren't available.
@autofanaticcars
@autofanaticcars 3 года назад
yeah every time i was driving and punching it I was worried if I hit bad NY traffic i would be stressed out, there are more fuel stations in the world than EV charging stations and the infrastructure just isn't there yet in the USA and abroad right now so it depends how you would use the EV for your lifestyle. maybe a long trip would be an awful idea after all

That's what "chill" mode is for but like everything else there is an adjustment period. These cars aren't hard to drive at all you just have people that mentally won't adapt and that is a world problem. No wonder the world is screwed up the way it is. Just think how the transition from the horse and buggy to the ICEV went yet some people are still complaining. 🤣🤣

Haha! I'm lucky enough to own a P3D and a Giulia QV. My P3D was track-prepped pretty heavily, for it needed more help at the track than my QV does. The P3D overheats quickly on track, though... I have videos on my channel of me on track in each at Road Atlanta where you can see the overheat issues. But for everyday use?? Yeah, the P3D is an excellent car. Not involved enough for me as I like to actually drive, but again... it's a great car for most. Go get your hands on a Plaid S if you think the P3D is quick! 9sec 1/4mi... stock.

@genyosai
@genyosai 3 года назад
@@autofanaticcars Yeah. The P3D is quick, not fast, meaning it'll get the jump on a lotta folks, but around 110mph it starts to run outta steam. Also, as the state of charge depletes, the energy/power depletes as well, so it inherently gets slower and slower as it runs out of power. Think about it like this... Leave your headlights on without the car running and watch the lights dim as the battery loses energy. That's what happens to the P3D, or any BEV for the most part EXCEPT maybe the Plaid S. I think Tesla is solving some of those problems as their battery tech advances.

I heard that the Telsa model doesn't have the same handling in multiple sharp curvy roads compared to other famous sports car brands. The sprint speed is superior to combustion engines cars for obvious reason, but not yet in par in curve handling against the famous. Brands. In order to make a fair comparison is to test the future EV's of the famous against the Tesla models. I appreciate if Auto Fanatic can give me your feedback after testing it. I haven't seen you test it in more challenging sharp curvy roads with the Tesla model. Thanks Francesco

@autofanaticcars 3 года назад
Hi I have driven this on twisty roads however i did not film those days unfortunately. the handling is quite impressive on very sharp transitions, the brakes are decent not that impressive maybe because i had regen turned off. What is impressive is the sharpness of reactions due to the 4 wheel torque vectoring which is far superior to any mechanical AWD system today. I am still not 100% sold on a Tesla personally but we must see what the future brings. The Tesla to many may seem too sharp and nervous when driving it fast and spirited and I also felt that as well

Your wanting shifters, Tesla’s answers by taking away all all the stocks. This car destroys all gas cars on the road, and bikes zero to 60. Plaid is about a half second Faster to 60. I don’t know any gas cars that will out launch this car. You have range anxiety. It takes awhile to adjust.

Great to hear your perspective Phil. I have a 2017 Giulia QV and love it to death. But my mate convinced me to swap for his Model S dual motor for a week to experience a Tesla. I had the same reaction as you. I couldn’t believe how responsive it was. When I got back in my Giulia and drove home, with the exception of the steering, everything felt so sluggish. These Tesla’s seem to almost teleport up the road! Plus the all wheel drive and weight make them feel so planted no matter what the conditions. I’ve always got to be paying attention in the Alfa, which is part of the involvement I suppose. Keep the great content coming mate!
