After all the negative comments I’ve heard about the build quality of Tesla, I actually think this looks quite well put together! (I say this after having to pull apart some of my early cars for repairs in my twenties and comparing)
Teslas "Made in China" are spot on. When I was receiving mine, there was nothing to comment about. After few days rear lights fogged up just a bit, but I guess this is chronic ilness of their products. Warranty covers that, but only if more than 50% of rear case is fogged up. With new Berlin cars we can see lower quality than "Made in China" but that is expected for a factory that is brand new and just started.
i wish i could get my model 3 fixed as quick as that, my car is still in a compound for the last month in Spain, waiting for my insurance company to pick it up. thanks for getting back to me. love you channel, regards Brian’s tesla
This vid was a great help replacing a headlight for a friend yesterday, might want to take a picture of the two inner clips on each side though, they were a total PITA! Thanks RSEV, appreciate the video!
Very interesting, answers the question "where is the towing eye?" That bumper is better fixed on, than the Audi S1 I removed a bumper a few years ago, to change the grill. Glad its fixed :)
Impressed with the repair cost, process and parts availability. Meanwhile, my cracked model 3 windscreen has been unrepaired for 3 months with Autoglass saying there’s a global shortage and Tesla also having thin pickings. Luckily it’s not impeding my vision so it’s good to continue driving, but others have been parked up for months now. I would have thought that spare glass shouldn’t be a problem, but with Tesla it is!
You say easy to replace....yes if you know what you are doing. Amazong how well it is all secured and you certainly had the right person to repair it. Glad to see it is good as new. I guess the paint match was easier to do as no discolour from age?
Interestingly you skipped the paint cost which for metallic blue I reckon should have been ~ £480. I know because I had a repair to model 3 rear bumper, same colour.
i thought there was a 1k for that replacement bumper. so the price was not as bad. I do hope that the nice man paid quickly for the repair. and you should keep the car far far away from his house.
So did Tesla suggest this garage and that was it approved? And how did he find getting a new bumper I would have thought it would be a nightmare to get a bumper from Tesla obviously was matching the paint hard too?
Are VAM a Tesla approved body shop? Asking because I need something similar done but assumed it would need to be 'Tesla Approved' for the warranty, etc.
@@RSEV I got used to it, was interesting video tho, very surprised at reasonable prices, however I would have masked off bonnet and light before polishing, love the honest videos
Tbh, the content was so interesting it didn't really annoy at all. I guess the florescent lights in the workshop got synced up with the camera frame rate.
Its a near 2k repair for a bumper with paint and labour thrown in. Tesla well known for expensive bodywork repair with metal parts. I don't believe much of their cars were designed with maintenance in mind.
Why is it so expensive to insure a Model Y? Google searches say the parts are expensive and repairs have to be done by certified Tesla technicians. I get that for issues arising from the High Voltage system but for these minor cosmetic jobs they are the same if not cheaper, which disproves the statement that even minor damage repairs are sometime uneconomical to repair.
I ordered a Ford Ranger exhaust - that took 2 months and cost £4,000 So not amazing outside of Tesla.. I think the part cost very reasonable and time scale acceptable for a brand new model. I’m confident a bmw/audi/merc or whatever else brand would cost more for any of their new models. Probably including Ford for a new Focus
Considering there are virtually none in the UK that's not a surprise. Probably had to be imported from the US Ford parts made in EU and have no import duty. Considering Tesla are the most popular EV on the planet spares costs and availability are pathetic. Drive something good and exotic and repairs cost a lot. Point I was making buy a normal car and repair costs are reasonable with Tesla they are not.
@@RSEV I was watching Jonny doing that thinking, bet Richard is wincing on first watch. At least he blasted the brush first 😁. I snow foam, two bucket rinse with filtered water and don't even dry with microfibre anymore, I use a Big Boi BlowR Pro (great if you have the car ceramic coated or use a ceramic coat temporary spray finish).
Because it is back to factory condition. Would You want to buy a car with mended/glued front bumper? That would significantly lower value on second hand market.
The removal of the bumper really is unnecessarily complicated. You can clearly see that Tesla still has lot's to learn. Also, 300 bucks is not cheap for a part like this.
Manufacturers don't design bodywork to be disassembled they design it to be assembled quickly. Those plastic rivet fasteners take a second to fit but are fiddly to remove.
@@peterwilliamson1825 Not true. A lot of experience and effort goes into designing these parts so they are up to spec, but can be replaced quickly and easily. Ease of removal directly tanslates into cost of replacing as well as the magnitude of insurance fees. Making a part functional in that sense is a high art an really shows how much a manufacturer has their game mastered. In other words - this bumpe really shows, that Tesla is miles away from what a real car manufacturer can offer in terms of quality construction.
@@peterwilliamson1825 The Audi TT is a sports car, different rules apply there. The Model Y is marketed as a family car. Serviceability and cost effectiveness are the main concerns of auto makers in that segment. If this is the best Tesla can do, they can't do much, which actually pretty much screams at you any place you take a closer look at a Model 3 oder Model Y. They are cheaply made vessels to get you into the Tesla ecosystem, sold woth at a premium. Tesla tries to sell this "non car" as some sort of minimalist aestetics icon, but it's nothing more than a car made as cheap as possible. The build quality is bad, the ride is bad, the value for money is bad, the dashboard...well, there is none, the HUD...well there is none, the opening sunroof...well there is none, the matrix headlights...well there are none that work, but hey, they do a Tesla light show. The latter says it all. The lights can do it, Tesla simply can't programm it to be street worthy. Heck they even took the radars out, with horrific results for the Autopilot performance.
Thanks guys; appreciate your demonstration. If interested, here's another way to remove the front bumper of a Tesla Model Y 😁: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-alLkbdEY7ho.html
I think it was some old led or florescent light in the workshop not at the same frequency as the camera, it might help to set the camera to 50 Herz or Pal mode. Not NTSC. NICE REPAIR 👍
