Yes, for our family of four children the Model Y was a big step up from a Model 3. I missed the hatchback in the E Niro moving from that to the Model 3. Model Y has massive space, storage and mine has the optional tow hitch. Costs a kings ransom and more than I paid for my first house back in 1996, but if you can, why not? My real world range is at least 530 KM per charge because I drive like I’m driving Miss Daisy, it the power is there if you need it….
Love listening to your very ‘Irish’ reviews Nobby! ‘Where you’d be going with a bell on a bike with this I don’t know’ is a classic! Great review though like for most people it’s just too expensive (try £60K in the UK!).
Good perspective. Ideally I’d love something in the middle: the saloon Model 3 with a bigger opening on the boot. It’s the only (small) limitation of the 3 over the Y I see.
Yes, even the 2023 Shanghai Model Y is on the firm side. Fine on motorways, a bit bumpy on urban and B roads in the UK. Also a bit rattly/creaky. BTW we drive a LOT in France. Main trunk routes are smooth, little village roads and some urban can be awful. When the car is loaded up it rides a bit better, like those old estate cars. Fantastically spacious and practical.
Wow! There Nobbs. I was after a model Y .I went to purchase on there website and base model with no extras it starts at €75499. Can you let me know wher I can get one for €66000 please. Tesla are cheating with price. That is why I have the EV6 now. Good review again.
I own one in Ireland. Handling and power are not an issue, in fact for a heavy 'crossover' I think it sticks to the bends. The bloody suspension is a mess though! The rebound is too fast and compression is too hard. I'm hearing that the made in Germany model Y's are tuned better though, and the newer (lighter) battery pack should help suspension too. So in summary, I'm prob going to buy a new one next year 😊. Apart from the suspension it an amazing car and ownership experience.
The Tesla charging network was always going to have to open up to other cars. It’s like saying if you have a petrol Kia you can only fill up at a Texaco, or a VAG can only use circle K. It’s just not how public infrastructure should be rolled out.
@@NobbyOnCars absolutely - but those changes will be made, just like has happened in the trial countries. In the US they’re doing it with (rare) bipartisan legislation. There aren’t many Irish Tesla drivers without access to a home charger, so the network is generally under-utilised here. God knows teslas share price could use the additional revenue stream 😏
I am looking at the model Y but I also like the Skoda Enyaq Coupe. The cost of the Y is putting me off but I would value your opinion as I know you have driven both cars
What’s with the VRT ? If the car is electric where’s the incentive? With this new budget been rushed through and the county broke yet again I guess there will be nothing left for EV buying incentives like scrapping scheme , O% loans etc etc . Ryan’s a gobshoite
Scrap the VRT and open the bus lanes for starters. Grants can't continue for sure but VRT would be a better option anyway long term. Less cost to the government and it would grab headlines as it's such a hated tax.
In Germany there are enough roads that are as bad as very bad Irish roads. Only in South Germany they are usually better. I wouldn't buy a Tesla as there is no emergency handly at the rear seats to open the door in case of an electric failure. Then the Tesla is a potential death trap. And the windscreen whiper autom. is super annoying, something you use in daily life. And no separat climat controlls for the rear I would need for my dog.
Mark. I really don't need to comment.. my view of Tesla and Musk are well documented. I couldn't review or comment. It would be a string of expletives! This might get past the Tesla " disciples.... Absolutely AWFUL! Dreadful in every aspect. Design, cost, quality and when will it stop? Please god make it stop.
