I was thinking along the same lines. The second I saw him doing burnouts I knew he was going to lose. Rear-wheel-drive against four-wheel drive. Why did he even try?
Drag car are most commonly rear wheel drive. At the strip, racers will do burnouts just before lining up to heat up the rear tires for better traction.
@@Andres64B AWD isn't common in drag cars as it adds weight. In an electric car adding an extra motor adds more weight sure... but more HP and the AWD system is more advanced and responds quicker then ABS. Hence why the model S plaid has a faster 0-60 then a 60-0 time. The brakes are perfectly fine(Assuming you aren't doing repeated 60-0).
@@MittenOverlanding Correct. Same thing with Tesla's since... they use tyres, I know crazy. You also get more of the sticky substance from the strip on your tyres.
Agree buts it's on a track which is not exciting and the Tesla is quiet so there is no excitement in driving it. It's for lazy people that don't want any real excitement in their lives. On a extend race the other car would win because it's faster to fill it up with gas then waiting for the Tesla to charge.
@@mikemecklenborg5412sounds like the response of someone who has never driven a Tesla vehicle. The acceleration is unmatched, and sure it’s quiet, but it’s still super fun to drive!!!
@@travelocity14i own a tesla model s, and a chevy camaro. Yes the tesla is faster, but i find it boring, i use it to get groceries and bring my kids to school. The camaro is the go-to during the weekend. It's loud, fast and fun
Yes, though Tesla's doesn't compare to brands that have a reputation. With Elon making a mess of Tesla and twitter, it's really a somewhat decent victory.
Not only more HP but the amount of sensors and acceleration optimization for the torque on the tires in the plaid. So many forces at work here to make a way more powerful piece of machinery. I think draft racing electric vehicles with ICE cars is like drag racing any modern 180hp grocery getter with a horse. Its... Not really fair. It is its own league. Tesla should be racing other EV's.
Respectfully, no im not a tesla fanboy, there's not a single race that involves a tesla on the internet where it doesn't get hate. That goes for the ICE vehicles that have lost races against em as well, I do not understand why people just can't enjoy races without comparing prices, modifications, and tHe sOuNd. A race is a race and a win is a win. You challenge someone to a race without knowing what they have under the hood, that's on you. The car community should all appreciate all the technology and innovations we are getting as years go by and cherish the legendary engines that we got in the past. There's no need to spread hatred against one brand or another, like for real, it's not that deep. A great race is good entertainment for everyone, there's no need to take a hit in your pride when a tesla wins or if you're a tesla fan boy, when the tesla loses. Cheers everyone!
I think much of the hate is that a driver in a Tesla Plaid mashes the go pedal and the car does all the work. Racing used to take skill, timing, and nerves. The driver of the Tesla doesn't have to shift. He doesn't have to time RPM's to hit the sweet spot where torque dips in the lower gear but is high enough in the next one to optimize acceleration. He doesn't even have to fight torque steer because there isn't any, or electronics do it for him with TC. People hate on fast electrics because their performance feels unearned.
It's funny that ppl keep drag racing Tesla's. It's clearly the faster car but I'd take a gas vehicle over an EV any day. You won't see any Tesla's in a "Fireball Run" race anytime soon.
People would have taken a horse and cart over a gas automobile back in the day too. People’s preferences have nothing to do with reality that yes EV’s is (for now) the future of cars. Gas vehicles to a certain extent are transitioning into museums.
Teslas on drag strips annoy me. People come with cars theyve spent so much time, blood, sweat and tears on, and then some random pulls up like, "hey look what i bought"
In 2022 I happily moved my 2010 Prius out of the way to watch a 2021 Dodge Charger Scat Pack challenge a Tesla sedan (maybe 2021) in a street race. That poor Charger had NO chance. The Tesla moved so fast it gave me motion sickness to watch. Super powerful! Dude in the Charger had some serious road rage after that😂😂😂
Yeah, my model 3 can beat most of these beefed up ricers I see driving around my area, and it's only a single motor. It's no surprise that a dual motor could keep up with a hellcat.
He's not lying. I was returning a model 3 rental (with 10% charge remaining bc that's the minimum required for return) and got into a race with a hellcat on the interstate. I gave the hellcat the lead because I didn't want to risk crashing a rental, but surprised the hellcat driver when I got right behind him and bird-dogged close enough to bumpdraft him on the interchange at 95 mph. He almost crashed when he realized he was in the lane to go south instead of north and had to do a quick lane change.
3 times the hp, 4wd against a Sportscar that is supposed to be fun on a racetrack. Seems like a very fair comparison. Also one costs 3 or 4 times as much
You have no idea how much these cost 😂 a new GR supra starts at $45k and a new Plaid model s starts at $90k. Plus the supra is heavily modified which isn't cheap. So the Tesla isn't 3 or 4 times as much as the supra, in fact at their respective setups the Tesla doesn't even cost double the Supra 😂
@@Andres64Bsports car does not mean drag car. And tesla sure is fast off the line its got over 1000hp, but hes only got 2 runs before he needs a charge.... A miata would beat them both in an autocross short track tho. 🤷🏿♂️
The Supra wasn't designed specifically for straight-line performance! It can do everything and do it well! That's what a well rounded performance car does!
🤔 Considering there are a lot of quarter mile tracks and those things cost a pretty oenny to build, my guess is more than a few. At least enough, in fact to be profitable for a few decades.
Like other posters have said, the Supra is a legend because the MK IV CAN be built over 1,000 hp on the factory block. Guaranteed, the new gen Supra racing here was not pushing 1,000 hp, so its not a true representation of the legend.
Hate all you want... With a Tesla in a straight line, not even a bugatti would touch you....That's even if his fuel would last long enough for the chase.
So when do we start seeing Teslas win circuits? Like the rest of the car industry is interested in? Or we just ignoring their heavy weight and poor ability to corner like the sport cars its smokes in drags strips?
No for 3rd comment Atleast he can modify. Learn and not be watched .Not Have to buy a full battery every what 10 years . I means we don't have privacy now who want a car that makes you lazy . Car that turns its self in lol . It's y we have problems now .
So much ignorance....you turn on a power switch you will get the bulb rigth away , you open the water to travel through a hose and water is gonna take a while to get to point b...SO ELECTRICITY TRAVELS FASTER THAN GAS.SIMPLE.
Nurburgring doesn't lie. Tesla in current state too heavy to do anything other than straight line. Braking distance also incredibly horrible. Even in a circuit like 24 hours of le man the supra will dance circles around the Tesla. And that circuit has the Mulsanne straight! Toooo toooo heavy. Also, Tesla requires recharging. The supra can refuel in under a minute. That's why we don't see many electric racing series. Finally, electric car fires are very difficult to put out. Racing circuits are not ready for them. Still I rather have the Tesla for daily driving. But no way for performance driving.
I just went 12.1 @ 114 in mine with a down pipe and a boost controller at that track so I'm gonna say it isn't. My car has been 11.5 @ 120 at some of the faster tracks.
Lol huh! This Supra MK5 is equipped with BMW Z4 engine. The Supra MK4 with the legendary 2JZ-GTE was seemingly designed with boost-hungry tuners in mind. The Toyota Supra is a legend largely because of the engine that went into the fourth-generation Turbo model, the 2JZ-GTE inline-six. With its two sequential turbochargers, this 3.0-liter six made 320 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque-big numbers for 1993 but it could be more powerful all cause of restrictions of japan limiting only at 300 hp max at that time. But the MK4 can also produce more than 1500 hp if tuned but can also produce 3000 hp if extremely highly modified. Thats what makes Supra MK4 special for us.
Why doesnt the tesla rev, burnout...oh wait.... it cant cause its not a combustion engine 😂. That sucks.. no exhaust note. Just a seat and silence, maybe a song playing😅
@@thatsinconceivable1987 not to mention, subtract the 3 mississippis he gave the supra from the green. Had he gunned it at green would have been closer to 6 seconds.
@@chriscotton4207 and that’s where your wrong😂Tesla plaid 0-60 is 1.99 seconds. Demon 170 0-60 is about 2 seconds on the street. And on the strip without rollout it’s about 1.7-1.9. Either way, it’s still a .1 seconds difference. Demon could EASILY destroy you. Also note this, nobody is racing the 170 on the street.
@@randomaidan8005 I've just yet to see it. Hell cats slip all over the place. I have heard excuse after excuse. But I just go and its always consistent.
Heck ya!!! America rises to the top of the automobile industry again!! Finally a company to take on toyota. Lets put American cars back American roads!!
Toyota USA makes a lot of cars in America though and Elon just built a megafactory in China plus he buys batteries from BYD which is basically sponsored by the Chinese government.
Apples to apples is how true racing is done! The model S Plaid should go race a Bullet train in Japan. Then we'll see who's the faster of the two! I'd still take the Supra any day of the week as it gets the attention everywhere! The Tesla on the other hand is an overpriced car with a build quality that even Kia wouldn't let leave their production facility! It's quality engineering vs a plug in battery that couldn't maintain that speed for very long without running out of juice! Even the Energizer Bunny can't last forever!
Japanese bullet train would lose to the plaid in a quarter mile. 🤣. Also "apples to apples" so a car should race a train. I'm starting to think this comment was a joke
So know your stuff, 2 Teslas are well built high end the S is one. You are correct the 3 and y have historically had complaints about build because they are significantly less expensive and were meant to be entry level
