@@rightbehindyou9398True. I thinks he kinda hit the needle in the toilet with this one, since I love the contrast of, over the top annoying, and slim down Gangsta-Rap, Casino, and some „Girls“ Club Music and Places being in the Game. Literally loved the presentation for being „Cheesy 11“.

This game almost isn't so much a racing game so much as a lifestyle simulator, and I think it achieves that well. I grew up playing this, one of my favorite games.

Pretty big exaggeration, it's pretty bug free in my experience. Besides the server issues, which actually haven't affected my gameplay in the 8 hours I've played so far, The core game is really good and glitch free In fact, TDU2 launch had the same problems with server issues PLUS massive amounts of bugs, many of which were never fixed.

@@SicSemperBeats played TDUSC for 30 hours since September 6 and have had no issues other than server problems and one meeting point/workshop refusing to stay discovered every time I reboot the game. Honestly it's been one of the more polished racing games to come out recently, although I am on PC so it may be different

@@SicSemperBeatsI owned tdu2 on PC and Xbox. Launch was as bad as solar crowns if not worse. The servers were down more often than not. The casino didn't work half the time. Despite having an open beta Atari had an awful launch.

And yes, just like said previously, these server issues were never fixed in TDU2s entire life. Random disconnects from servers, couldn't cruise together. People need to look beyond the nostalgia that the game had.

I think the nostalgia has really tainted the perception of this game unfortunately. I loved this game, but it had so many issues, random difficulty scales (A3 License anyone?) and the world still feels relatively empty. The houses and cars are still amazing and unique, but this game needs a remaster on some of its lesser qualities.

No matter what others say here in the comments. I think TDU 1 and 2 are just as much fun today as they used to be. Sure, the handling takes a bit of getting used to. But you figure that out after a few races. But in terms of gameplay, the old TDU games are still some of the best games I have ever played.

Like to me the racing was simply a means for me to get money to buy the things I wanted in the game. When it comes to what I always loved about the games, I can still enjoy that as much as ever.

I always felt very conflicted about this game. It nailed the island cruising experience but actual racing and progression wasn't enjoyable almost at all. And what in the world was that livery system? Why can you only customize the current top layer and why are there no values anywhere telling what its size, width and angle are let alone the coordinates?!

I remember I had to pick 2 games when I first grabbed my 360 Moh 2010 and TD2U because it fit my budget lol . This was 2011 I will never forget the Intro to TD2U, everything felt elegant and true to cars. I was late to my 7th grade class waking up early to drive 8 miles for 30 min to get my destination in the fast back ahhh the memories.

It has a better launch than TDU2 and an actual decent driving model. Even The Crew 2 is better than TDU2 in a lot of ways. ~TDU2 player that was there at launch month and bought dlc for it (THAT'S INACCESSIBLE NOW BTW)

@@TheFurryInShambles While I absolutely agree, that the driving model is definitely better and more satisfying in Solar Crown, I think it would be sensible to expect a TDU game to finally have a proper launch after 11 years, instead of them shooting themselves in the foot yet again. Back then I would think that maybe the player influx was unexpected, the server costs would be too high to risk allocating lots of them for launch day and so on - now it's just unacceptable with how the tech evolved and how much more money corporations have now. I really hope that TDU:SC will have it's redemption arc before it will get proclaimed dead or before it loses most of the players ☹

@@MilesFox92 Yeah, I would agree it should have had a better launch from the jump, but these are the same, not anymore, official WRC devs we are talking about. They solely focused on rally games and were handling a gigantic project that they stupidly told themselves will outdo the past TDU games, but that's what screwed them and handicapped the game right now, doing the same crap Eden Games did when all they had to do was make a damn copy of Midnight Club with TDU elements.

my biggest gripe about this game is the voice acting. Absolutely horrendous. But the cool thing about the TDU series was actually the use of car dealership and being able to walk & interact with the vehicles etc before purchase, I always thought was pretty cool lol

Worst part of it the introduction of offroads. TDU 1 was about long drives. In this game when you decide to start from north Oahu with you Ferrari, setting your gps to south Oahu, it will take you through dirt roads to get there. And guess what? All the asphalt vehicles speed ia maxed out about 50 60 mph. So on most of your journey you will slug around. It will always baffle me how could they implemented that idea so horribly...

I liked the game a lot. It's one of the few games I come back once in a while. For me it's the islands, just taking my favorite car for a drive and because the map is so big it feels like a road trip, I like it kind of for the reason I like Euro truck simulator

As someone who grew up with TDU 2 and is still playing it to this day, i can understand where you are coming from. This game is far from perfect, but it achieved some things that new games still can't, it was ahead of it's time. I think it's very important to call this game a driving game rather than a racing game. Yes, racing was part of it, but it wasn't the focus. Even then, the variety in races was cool - speed traps, speed challenges in addition to the usual races and time trials mixed things up. Only the eliminator was quite boring and repetitive. Plus the side quests are kinda fun and casual, you can't take them too seriously (like the story). Also, stalking that car falls under the bro code since his gf is cheating on him xD I think you missed out a bit on the progression and how rewarding it is. It really needs some time until you can afford a super car for example, and it feels that much more rewarding when you get your dream car. The same can be said for houses, there is just nothing like buying the Yacht after you completed the story line (cause most likely only then can you afford it) or a villa in the mountains. Your experience was compromised by the lack of online functionality, with PC online mods (as you mentioned) like Project Paradise 2 you can do multiplayer races, use the casino, join clubs, use the Community Racing Centre to upload and drive custom player races, invite others to your house, be a passenger in someone else's car, and most importantly, cruise on a huge map with up to 8 players at the same time - which is honestly the best thing you can do in this game. Sounds boring, but there is nothing like it. Not to forget that you can open and close your roof, windows and use turn signals which is especially nice when cruising. Also, how dare you not mention the car wash xD In summary, maybe you'll get to try out the game online on PC. It's still quite active and getting 20-30 players per day.

@@mrjohnnyk I think all of the handling options are just bad. The arcade assists makes all the cars feel the same (sluggish) and the "sim mode" without assists feel unpredictable thanks to the bad collision and terrain modeling

@@lordeilluminati Yeah I don't think changing those handling modes make a big difference, I usually stuck with the middle option. What I meant was going into the controller settings and adjusting the sliders for the analog control. That can make a big difference in changing the way cars feel and how you can handle them.

@@impointr You do know that if it wasn't for TDU2, then some games would have been different, or not have existed at all, right? The Crew is TDU3, it's made by the same people (inclusively), now it's a whole successful franchise, Forza Horizon 1 in 2012 took a lot of inspiration from TDU2, and I'm pretty sure even Rockstar took inspiration from it for the original GTA Online in 2013. This game was not just groundbreaking for it's time due to it's huge map(s) size and extensive gameplay features, it's also responsible for the existence of the entire The Crew franchise and the success of the Forza Horizon franchise. And by the way, just in case you're gonna try to use this against me: the first time I played TDU2 was 2 years ago, I'm not nostalgic for this game nor do I have any nostalgia goggles. It takes either a fool or a bot to downplay TDU2 the way that this guy did.

@@rightbehindyou9398 I fail to see how all of this invalidates OP's opinion of the game. TDU may have spawned a lot of other games with similar features (with TC1's devs mainly being people who worked on TDU1 and not TDU2 afaik), but that's about it. People are allowed to not like a game. It's not because it was revolutionary that it is automatically good, or that it aged better than its competitors. The big map was a thing, but back when both TDU1 and TDU2 released there already were complaints that the map felt empty and sparsely detailed. It was immersive, sure, but it didn't look good. That issue still plagues more recent games such as The Crew 1 and 2 which also were heavily criticised for their empty feeling and repetitive maps. OP hasn't even downplayed the game anyway, merely said it didn't stand the test of time as well as its competitors as it released. And that's true, TDU2 looks and feels like a product of its time unfortunately. It isn't as timeless as, say, Burnout 3 Takedown or Midnight Club LA which still are an absolute blast to play nowadays. These still feel great to drive in, race in, and wreck havock in. As for TDU1 and 2, I personally can't bare their handling and physics even with the help of modding on my side. TDU2 was especially terrible, made doubly awful in its version of O'ahu as this island's collision meshes were simply dreadful. Picture driving on a road at 100 kph with speed bumps every 5 meters. That's how some of its roads felt in the game. You really need to take a chill pill and cope with the fact that people don't have the same tastes as you, by the way. Like I said, it's not because a game was important for its medium that it necessarily aged well. It's like the original Doom which hasn't aged quite well, made more enjoyable through modern ports to more up-to-date versions of its engine like GzDoom.

TDU was one one my favourite games on PSP. Never got around to playing number 2 .. don’t think Ferraris where in number 1 ? :( Keen as for a Juiced review! Played so much of that on PS2

I tried this game a couple years ago. Couldn't enjoy the driving physics but most importantly I could NOT stand the characters. I wanted to kill everyone in this game with hammers. So I just uninstalled it after a couple hours playing. Unfortunately, Solar Crown turned out to be a dud too. If you need me, I'll be playing 20 year old racing games, I guess.

My review would be - Dodgy handling, slightly dodgy car models, feels slightly rushed with the 2 radio stations and repetitive dialogue, but beyond that an excellent game with a great map (even ignoring the ported Hawaii) and a very clever multiplayer system, improved from the first game and imitated by everything today

@@PointNemo9 The video points it out very well - the cars have a huge oversteer problem that can't be countersteered in any way. Once you're in a slide, you're stuck in a slide until the game decides for you the slide is over.

TDU2 has a sense of humor about it, all of the character writing and dialog was clearly intended to come across as "self aware", intentionally silly and satiric. Remember the radio ads? This guy just does not get it.

I downloaded it yesterday of my steam. After some fafing with unoficial patches (otherwise, the game runs at 11fps). It was a good nostalgia trip. But the shaky camera gave me motion sickness. Definitely did not hit as hard as when I first played it. (Id be down for a remaster with better optimisation. But given how sh#( the new game is. Its unlikely)

From the PS3 version I remember the final patch messed with camera motion as you accelerate, it made both cockpit and chase cams much worse :( Idk if there's a mod to stop it

I remember playing TDU1 and hating so much the racing part that I ended just cruising for hours instead of racing. It was ground breaking to have a virtual vacation in a game. However, TDU2 never got me that much because the novelty wore off and the cringe NPCs, bad physics and bugs were too much to tolerate at this point.

Most of your criticisms are valid, however I think they are too harsh. The dialogue and cutscenes are bad, true. But if you don't take them too seriously, they are not intrusive enough for me to taint the rest of the game. They only happen every so now and then and the voice actors are actually pretty good. It's just a shame the models don't reflect this. The map does feel empty at some points, especially hawaii, so I will give you that one. The handling has been criticized for as long as the game is out and yes, it is not very good, but I like the challenge it provides. It teaches you to gently apply the throttle and steer lightly as you build revs. The physics screw you every now and then, but nothing too serious. It has glitches, but how bad is it really to have to restart one mission because of it? The only glitch that made me mad was the one where the last pass time mission wouldnt pop up. To summarize: the game is very flawed, but that also has it's charm. It brought some really cool stuff to the table and looks pretty good.

This game is quirky for sure, but I have so much love for it and the environment. It's more of a luxury life simulator and that's how I imagine TDU to be. I'd rather play TDU 2 for the rest of my life than that new shit and unfinished online-focused TDU Solar Crown.

Yeah, say what you want about TDUSC, but TDU2 had so many problems I couldn't play it properly in the end. I bought TDUSC because it's a "reboot" in a sense, the second, maybe last chance to redeem its name as the OG of open-world driving game, and since release game already runs much smoother than TDU2. It's just that there's still a long way to go for them, and at least they got their priorities right compared to this one.

I really like your view without nostalgia goggles of this game. This game has good ideas but it is so flawed that I really dont like it, especially the terrain and the physics. Many say it is because it is an old game, but it isnt an excuse, there are a lot of old racing games (even older than this) that feel better, the issue is that this game focused too much on being "larger than life" and it missed the basics.

I played TDU2 for the first time 2 years ago and I think it's an absolute masterpiece, you crybabies should go play forza or something while the big boys enjoy calmly cruising in the beautiful, vibrant and rich world of TDU2. This reviewer didn't even bother playing an online TDU2 server (for the intended experience) and chose to play the buggiest console version offline instead, then he actually went ahead and reviewed that. Nostalgia goggles may be bias in favor of a game, but this review is nothing but bias against it.
