I like it, it’s useful, I made 4 mistakes and I learned to pronounce the word headache 😂, I knew what it means but I didn’t know we pronounce it like that 😂
"The more educated somebody is the more they use advanced words." - It's true to some extent, educated people may try to impress You with their vocabulary, but intelligent person will always adjust and have simple conversation.
I totally agree, never used these words before in any type of conversation (casual or formal) but they do show up in many English tests so that's probably why the creator chose such words
When you get everything right and are even able to guess the right answer before it appears as an option but you still can't accurately translate the words into your mother tongue or even use them in conversation yourself
@@MadeleinesMadeleines yesss I couldn't have worded it better. I'm so insecure talking english, so I end up using the same five words over and over again :
1.Inevitable~that can not be avoided or prevented from happening 2.Prompt~immediate;done without delay 3.Stunning~very attractive, impressing or surprising 4.Petrified~very frightened 5.Sporadic~not done or happening regularly 6.Reckless~not thinking about possible or dangerous, bad results that could come from your actions 7.Sedentary~involving a lot of sitting down;not active 8.Eloquent~able to use language and express your opinions well, especially when you speak in public 9.Bland~ordinary or not very interesting 10.Indignant~socked or angry because somebody has said or done something thar you do not like or do not agree with 11.Gullible~(used about a person)believing and trusting people too easily, and therefore easily tricked 12.Filthy~Very dirty 13.Ambiguous~Having more than one possible meaning 14.Lucrative~allowing somebody to earn a lot of money 15.Oblivious~not noticing or realizing what is happening around you This is the crux of the video I Hope you ike it🙏🏻
Thank you now I can get to sleep a lot earlier. Seriously I use those words all the time. Does that make me educated? Because of you I didn’t have to watch the whole video thank you
Lmao we've read too many novels already, i was thinking of the god who said Death is mandatory. lmao i think i need to start doing some productive things T-T
@@scarlettlasweet no it's not. Mandatory = must/required for a certain practice or purpose. If death is mandatory then everyone should go die. It's inevitable because it's unavoidable and no one really requires to die but it's just nature itself. And before you say it's a joke or i went to deep and wasted my time, i didn't, i browse all day it's my routine.
@@lion638 mandatory means someone has made that rule and you have to face or do that no matter what ...but not everyone believes in god or maybe gods don't even exist it means we die ourselves not by anyone's force
Based on this video, you know you've achieved true fluency when you can called out the exact words even before the answers were given. Overall, an interesting RU-vid recommendation.
@@yujin193 True, although, you can still predict those words either because you've heard it before or you remembered the previous question containing the answer for the next question.
A true fluency is achieved once you can converse comfortably. I know most of these words but I freeze up when I try to speak in English. Or, tried to pronounce the words properly as accents are also a thing. Like, my brain knows how it should've been pronounced but my tongue is just not used to speak things that's inconsistent with how they're written.
@@yunan9610 Agreed, which is why practice makes perfect. It's not about perfecting the way you spoke, it's about practicing your language skills in a conversation to the point where not only your words makes sense to the communicant, but you can also learn what kind of words would those communicant used when speaking back to you. The consistency would led to a more comfortable way of exchanging opinions, perspective, and views in a conversation.
this qn almost got me too! idk is it bcos in my country no one ever really says someone is prompt, we usually use "punctual".. do ppl say "prompt" elsewhere?
@@youtubeusername7158 right now trying to survive the heat but headache wise yes! Once I even had to go to the emergencies cuz the migraine was so bad that I couldn't recall anybody's name xd it was shocking, luckily my memory returned hahaha
@@sharonheartapple oh! The sentence says “I LOVE your new hairstyle” and im saying that even tho eccentric makes sense in general, it wouldn’t be the correct word in this context because it’d need to be synonymous with “loving” the new hairstyle
@@Aacula Not necessarily, depends all on context. For example "darling I absolutely love your new hairstyle, it is so.. eccentric" - however in the context of this test I don't think you'd use eccentric.
Theyorgute exatamente. Nós brasileiros, assim como espanhóis e italianos, temos essa vantagem e nem nos damos conta disso direito. Nós já temos um vocabulário sofisticado de inglês “naturalmente”. Basta saber usar.
Yeah I would have said punctual would be better suited there. Prompt is more often used when we want to describe something as quick or sharp: he arrived promptly, in the context of otherwise saying "he arrived quite quickly".
Maybe the words "always" and "punctual" shouldn't be put one after the other, since "punctual" is a trait that lasts in time (therefore "always" shouldn't be put before it). Not sure though
@Lydia L first of all, idk why the heck everyones using ellipses. Second of all, acrophobia wasn’t brought up until by the original two posters in this thread, which are the main concern, so idk why you’re bringing it up at all
@@asterisque9252 Some fanfictions are really well-written, sometimes they're even better than actual books that are on the market (not going to name trash books, but I bet you can guess some titles lmao). So, I think fanfictions are sometimes just as good as actual books in terms of writing and vocabulary, you just need to find good ones! I don't know why I wrote so much about that, sorry lmao
@@eidrylalegre6630 I don’t see any faults with the grammar though? “You shouldn’t trust everyone. Don’t be so trusting.” is grammatically correct. It’s just a really poor short sentence, and would be better with a noun such as “Don’t be so trusting of others.”
Hello Lisa, this kind of content is a must please. We need to be tested on the other idioms, verbs, you've taught us so far. Please....I enjoyed this and did got 100%
Lol it’s easy when you have a Latin language as a mother tongue it seems like almost all the “advanced” words come from Latin lol. They’re basically transparent (French)
I'm Romanian and Romanian is a romance language (same language family as French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese), but I found that only 5 of the 15 correct answers are derived from Latin. Anyway, being part of romance language family definitely helps.
"Are you afraid of flying? Yes..." At first, I was afraid, I was petrified Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side But then I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong And I grew strong, and I learned how to get along And so you're back from outer space I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face I should have changed that stupid lock I should have made you leave your key If I'd have known for just one second you'd be back to bother me Go on now, go. Walk out the door Just turn around now 'cause you're not welcome anymore Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye? Did you think I'd crumble? Did you think I'd lay down and die? Oh, no, not I I will survive Oh, as long as I know how to love I know I'll stay alive I've got all my life to live I've got all my love to give And I'll survive I will survive, hey, hey It took all the strength I had not to fall apart Kept trying hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart And I spent, oh, so many nights just feeling sorry for myself I used to cry, but now I hold my head up high And you see me somebody new I'm not that chained-up little person still in love with you And so you felt like dropping in And just expect me to be free And now I'm saving all my loving for someone who's loving me Go on now, go. Walk out the door Just turn around now 'cause you're not welcome anymore Weren't you the one who tried to break me with goodbye? Did you think I'd crumble? Did you think I'd lay down and die? Oh, no, not I I will survive Oh, as long as I know how to love I know I'll stay alive I've got all my life to live I've got all my love to give And I'll survive I will survive Go on now, go. Walk out the door Just turn around now 'cause you're not welcome anymore Weren't you the one who tried to break me with goodbye? Did you think I'd crumble? Did you think I'd lay down and die? Inevitable means death is guaranteed to happen, and it most likely will be natural or accidental. Mandatory would mean that everyone is guaranteed to be murdered if natural death doesn't happen soon enough. Death would be mandatory, if reality were similar to the premise for the Futurama episode, where Professor Farnsworth gets forcibly taken away by the Sunset Squad Robots because his age is 160 years.
Actually, death is a paid service in Night Vale. If you don't keep up with your bills, they revoke your right to die. So, in this sentence it would be "Death is a privalage".
Agreed. I didn’t even imagine these words would be considered advanced, but I understand how it can be hard for other people, just like we would consider some words in Chinese or Korean advanced when in reality the words are part of very basic education.
I have a sister who is a pain in the ___ to fly with, because she so damn scared of it, so I laughed way too hard when the first option was unbearable, because I was thinking of her.
I was able to guess some words without knowing their meanings XD I've never thought that the word 'reckless' is considered to be an 'advanced word', I heard it pretty often
