I could list multiple apologists' whose work helped me become Catholic, but the 2 who had the biggest impact was Trent Horn ‪@TheCounselofTrent‬ & Gary Michuta ‪@ApocryphaApocalypse‬ , huge credit to them.
(Michael Lofton ‪@ReasonandTheology‬ and Elijah Yasi ‪@elijahyasi‬ is fantastic also and helped a lot with the Papacy)

I love you brother. There is nothing more humbling and beautiful than when an anti Catholic turns Catholic. I wonder with my pride if I would allow God grace covert me if I was anti Catholic. That's why I'm so happy I was born into the Catholic church which I've always taken for granted.

I am a 63 year old cradle Catholic and wondered that same question. I concluded that through all my dialoging and debating with Catholophobes, my faith in Christ and His Catholic Church has just grown. I reason therefore that had I not been born Catholic, I would have eventually been attracted to Catholicism.

@@tony1685 This has been refuted countless times. History itself shows that the early Church was Catholic. To be Catholic is to cease to be Protestant. Ask yourself this one question. Who was it who decided that Matthew's Gospel should be in the Bible but not the "Gospel of Thomas"? Clue: It happened in 382 AD

I also grew up protestant (Baptist) and graduated from a strong Baptist Christian school. It never set well with me though. Valuing tradition, I became Episcopalian until they became very heretical and so I left the church. After months of prayer and unbiasedly studying scripture, I bumped into John 6 and realized we were bastardizing the Eucharist in Protestant churches (not good). This narrowed my options to the orthodox or catholic church. Studying early church fathers, like St Ignatius of Antioch, led me further to the Church. Then studying history I realized the Church compiled the Bible, then over a millennia later the protestants tore out what they didn't like and had the audacity of accusing the Church of not obeying the Bible they compiled. At the end of the day history is on the side of the Church. Hail Christ!

Ironically, the RCC became heretical long before the Episcopalian Church even existed, though I'm not arguing your point about the Episcopal Church. I'm heading down that route right now. I was an extremely Anti-Catholic as a Calvinist, but then I became a Lutheran and accepted more Catholic teachings like the Real Presence, Baptismal Regeneration, etc. Like yourself I too have been praying like "God lead me to the truth, even if it is Catholicism" lol. My reason for leaving Lutheranism and considering the Catholic Church was that Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide are logically and historically inconsistent. I'm between Orthodox and Catholic. But leaning Catholic right now
@lionheart5078
@lionheart5078 Год назад
The Orthodox and Catholic debate is far more nuanced. Even for me as a Catholic when I look back in history its very difficult to know who is right and I can see both the Catholic and Orthodox view in the Early church. I think the Catholic view wins out in the end, but maybe here is something that has helped me. what you see in the early church of the first millenia is that the Roman see and Roman bishop are basically consistently making claims that they have a unique role of leadership and authority in the church which doesnt come form any canons or councils but directly from Jesus. The eastern churches more or less agree that Rome has a certain primacy but they push back against it very often and other times they support it completely (especially when the Roman church was supporting them in fighting against other heretics). What educated Orthodox today claim is that though Rome has a certain primacy, this primacy doesnt equate a universal jurisdiction. There is evidence supporting both Catholic and Orthodox positions so which one is correct? Well if I consider that Peter did have a special mission and that the Bishop of Rome is his successor (something clearly believed by the early church) then the logical conclusion in my mind is what is this mission as the fact that there is one is attested to in the Bible by Jesus himself so there must be one. In modern Orthodoxy this just doesnt exist, but in the modern Catholic church it is there. As a Catholic when I think about leaving for the Orthodox Church it just irks me that Jesus said to Peter "you are Peter/Kepha (rock) and upon this kepha (rock) I will build my church and the gates of Hell will never prevail against it. The Vatican is literally physically built on the bones of Peter. No orthodox contests this fact really and Patriarch Bartholomew along with the rest of Orthodox were overjoyed when Pope Francis sent part of Peters bones to them as gesture of goodwill. So if the vatican is literally built on Peters bones and has been so for 2000 years, this means Jesus' prophecy in every way has come true even to the point of having Peters bones as a base for the church. How can I get beyond this? I just cant personally. Hope that helps.

Regardless of theological and historical nuances, Orthodoxy fails in giving an answer, even in theory, to the problem of authority in general, but, maybe more importantly, to the problem of interpretive authority. Their usual answer-ecumenical councils- is powerful and partially true (after all, the Catholic Church also recognizes the authority of the college of bishops gathered in ecumenical council). But it suffers from a failure to take off: you need an ultimate authority to summon a council. History has already shown that different patriarchs have excommunicated each other: the Orthodox Church itself is suffering a schism, just as the Catholic Church has. But there's one major difference: because of their lack of a central and supreme authority, it's impossible to tell which is the branch that split and which the tree it split from. Any organization without a central and supreme authority may look very democratic (and, hence, very appealing to the American idiosyncracy) but it will ultimately always fail the test of unity. The final right interpretation of the Divine Revelation poses a major hurdle to either doctrinal unity or the evolving quality of doctrine (which responds to the evolving quality of human knowledge). Both East and West made astounding theological progress while they were united. The formulation of the truths of our faith was being constantly reassessed, streamlined and actualized, giving us monumental accomplishments in theological update such as the councils of Nicea, Ephesus, Constantinople and Chalcedony. This kind of doctrinal progress is virtually impossible without a final and central authority where "the buck must stop". Without it, doctrine becomes stagnant or it just leads to repeated and endless splintering (as it's the case with Protestantism), without nothing but a chronological reference to allow for a fair and rational assessment of what split from what.

James and Jude were the half brothers of the Lord Jesus Christ. So no, Mary was not a perpetual virgin. That's clearly said multiple times in Scripture. "Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?" - Matthew 13:55-56 KJV Christians did not remove 7 books from the Holy Bible, it was the Roman Catholics that added 7 books in response to the Reformation. If you want proof of that all you have to do is read the New Testament and realize that NO WHERE in the New Testament is the Apocrypha quoted. The Lord himself (see Luke 24:44) divides up the Old Testament into 3 different categories - the law, the psalms, and the prophets. Many different verses from these Old Testament books and stated again and referenced to in the New Testament. And yet no where does the New Testament quote or reference the Apocrypha. That's how you know the Apocrypha is not part of inspired Scripture. "And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me." - Luke 24:44 KJV I could go on, but the bottom line is "ye must be born again" (John 3:3). This does not happen when an infant is sprinkled with water. Being born again is the indwelling of the Spirit in a new believer who realizes their own sinful, wicked state and turns to/agrees with God that nothing they do can save them (including “sacraments”) and they, by faith, call on the Lord (and him alone) to save them, receiving Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and trusting his blood alone for the forgiveness of all sins (Romans 3:25, Revelation 1:5, Ephesians 2:8-9). The Roman Catholic church cannot save you. Sacraments cannot save you. Just because some Protestants are wrong about some things does not mean that Roman Catholicism is right. Follow the Bible alone. Faith alone saves. You must be born again. May God bless you. "That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise" - Ephesians 1:12-13 KJV

@@rangefinderz5135 Nope, not in my particular church. I'm not trying to get you to join any particular church, nor did I tell you what kind of church I attend. You don't have to be a member in any church if you really don't want to. But to get to Heaven, you must be born again (John 3:3) by putting your faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9). You can't trust Christ while trusting the Eucharist, your water baptism, your good works, etc. at the same time. Either you're trusting Christ and his shed blood on Calvary or you're trusting something else. As for me, I choose to trust Christ alone. "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus." - Romans 3:24-26 KJV
@RealBobEvans
@RealBobEvans Год назад
@@barbwellman6686 The Holy Bible clearly says the Lord Jesus Christ had half brothers (i.e. Mary and Joseph had children after the birth of Jesus). Matthew 12:47-50 and Mark 6:3 are other accounts. But that's besides the point. The point is that faith in Jesus Christ alone saves. Not sacraments, and not the Roman Catholic church. Even Mary was a sinner in need of a Saviour. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" - Romans 3:23 KJV (Mary is included in the "all") "And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour." - Luke 1:46-47 KJV (only sinners need a Saviour, and Mary clearly called God her Saviour) If you are trusting in anything other than the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary for the forgiveness of your sins, then you are not trusting Jesus Christ by faith. Faith in the Bible means to trust Christ fully and only. You cannot trust Christ while also trusting your church, baptism, works, etc. "That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise" - Ephesians 1:12-13 KJV "And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." - Acts 16:30-31 KJV "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.: - Galatians 2:16 KJV God bless.

@@tony1685 it is God’s Word that led me to Catholicism and the universal Church of Christ. I really don’t see evidence that the Church promotes living in sin. From attending RCIA, listening to Catholic apologists and even out parish Priest do not promote this view…?

@@tony1685 Catholics don’t worship statues or Mary. Catholics display honour to the saints - i.e veneration, which is not the same as worship, as there is only on true God - first commandment. “Sabbatarians argue that the Lord observed the Sabbath and we should imitate Christ in this. This reasoning, however, fails to consider that our Lord was still under the old covenant when he observed the Sabbath. Indeed, Christ perfectly observed the Sabbath as he did all of the old covenant. However, after he enunciated a new covenant at the Last Supper, his emphasis seems to be on Sundays. Sunday was the day he was found to have been resurrected, and his first two appearance to the twelve disciples were on the following two Sundays (Jn. 20:19, 20:26). Again, five weeks later-on Sunday-the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles. - Catholic Answers” if you follow Exodus and the old covenant laws then I do hope that you are staying home “Do not go out of your place (Ex. 16:19); do not bake or boil (Ex. 16:23); do not do any work (Ex. 20:10); do not build a fire (Ex. 35:1,3); do not carry a load (Jer. 17:27, Neh. 1:15); do not buy or sell (Neh. 10:31); and do not do your own pleasure (Isa. 58:13-14).” I don’t understand your last comment, as the Bible does not condone or support sin and neither does the Catholic Church. Go to confession often, when you sin, don't give up, behave out there. Honor your parents, be kind. Our mother Mary is always looking out for us, make sure you thank her and the angels and saints. Thank the Lord for making the angels and saints and giving us His own mother. I think mother Mary is probably a good cook and on the day of resurrection I hope to sample some of her cooking, and since calories will not matter then, it will be an even better day for that, among the many other more important things that day. Be careful around the women, they are an attractive thing so don't let that get out of hand. Get yourself some Green Scapulars to hand out to people, they are great for conversion and you can even hide them in furniture. You can say the Green Scapular prayer for people who don't say it themselves to help get them graces, put it near them anywhere. They can put one in their wallet, just get it in the house or room. Check them out, get yourself a miraculous medal and get enrolled in the Brown Scapular, they both bring great graces to young (and old) men. Jesus gave us His mom from the cross, it was His last possession on earth. Remember Jesus is the successor to King Davie (and much more) in the Davidic kingdom the queen was the MOTHER of the king. So, that makes Mary our queen and mother. Love God most of all, honor His mother, and since she is your mother too, it all fits nicely. Best wishes! Behave out there!

You are pretending all the restitution of Old Covenant = penance. New Covenant does not teach Penance. Bible does not say you can atone for any of your sins through penance or saying Hail Mary 1000 times.* *Bible says clergy priesthood was already obsolete in NT. Heb 7,9,10. So where did R ct priesthood come from? Let alone "assign a penance". No such thing in NEw Testament. We do not see any Church clergy priests in NT Church, neither clergy priests assigning "penance".* you said 13. On penance Through the prophet Nathan, God confronts King David over grave sins of adultery and murder. The guilty sovereign responds by confessing his sin to the prophet and to God. Then he humbles himself by exchanging his royal raiment for humble sackcloth, and for a week he lies on the ground and refuses all good (2 Sn 12:13-17). David is performing penance in his deep grief for his wrongdoing. His attitudes and behavior illustrate how genuine penance includes both an interior and exterior aspect. See -> disobedient Israelites wandering the desert for 40 years (Nm 14:26-35). John the Baptist’s father is struck temporarily mute when he won’t believe God’s message to him through an angel (Lk 1:20, 62-64). In the sacrament of Reconciliation, the priest assigns a penance on God’s behalf to help the penitent grow in holiness.
