FYI, over the pond here in the UK we modellers use a product called "Dettol" a disinfectant cleaner I believe the same ingredients equivalent of Dettol in USA called Cortane-B. Used undiluted the parts are simply left to soak overnight, rinse with water and scrubbed with an old toothbrush works a treat.

Yes, the Super Clean strips paint just great, it can take some time depending on the paint. It also does a Great job stripping chrome. Takes anywhere from a couple of minutes, to overnight. Some chromes, you can actually watch it come off.

I've used that non smelling bleach and that works well over night to remove chrome on parts. To take the "fake" look of the chrome parts I have sprayed them with a matte clear. Just enough to take that super shine down a few pegs. Thanks for another great test.

Your shoot out videos, are INVALUABLE! So many modelers, just use their go to products, which is totally fine. The only problem is, they may have went straight to that brand/product, from passed down knowledge. The person they learned it from though, may lack knowledge/experience with everything out there, and/or hasn’t ran tests. Just because the product you use works, doesn’t mean there isn’t possibly a better alternative. Whether that be in price, quality, or both. THANKS for your insightful diligence, in sharing this information… for FREE nonetheless 🙏

Great video and very informative! Super Clean is the clear overall winner. Removes everything, decent value, and you can still use it as a degreaser for other household items. IPA was also impressive, since it's something most of us already have around the house. Get a cheap ultrasonic to do away with any need for scrubbing and get every nook and cranny.

A great test Rex. Really interesting that it's better not to use the water when brushing off. I use Dettol antiseptic which works really well but a bit expensive, so your alternatives are the way to go for me now. Also for removing chrome, I use basic no name bleach which after a 5 minute soak, lifts all the chrome off. Keep the vids coming mate.

Again thank you for this test. I have been using the Awsome for many years ,just because of the cost and it's easy to get. I have often wondered how the green and purple stuff would work. With the Awsome I just dump it into a plastic lidded container large enough to float a 1/25 scale car or truck body and let it soak over night. You do have to scrub with a tooth brush under running water and then maybe pick at the door and panel lines with a wooden toothpick. It has taken off everything thatI have tried, new or old paint does not matter. I do reuse it but it does seem to lose its power after awhile

Thank you for this video. I airbrushed a model car body with Tamiya acrylic and I used Super Clean to try to get the paint off. It’s been in it for a week and it still hasn’t removed any of the paint. Really weird? Could it have something to do with how long the paint has been on dried on the model? I've had very good results with both 91% ISP and Super Clean for both paint and chrome removal. A word of caution for using Super Clean - only use a glass or plastic container for soaking parts in. I had an interior tub for a car soaking in Super Clean in a disposable foil pan and the Super Clean ate through the foil, leaked all over and made a big mess. Thanks for this test as well as all of your previous videos.

Here in Oz denatured alcohol is called methylated spirits and that just doesn't work at all on enamel or something like Vallejo water-based. Meths is a good cleaner but not for this purpose. I've also found using thinner and a toothbrush is a no-no as the brush scrapes the plastic. Some swear by brake fluid but I'm not ready to go that far just yet. Thanks for the video.

I've used simple green (the concentrate, not the ready to use), la's totally awesome, and super clean. And of the three, I've come to like super clean the most. using it in a mason jar over night, it strips everything i put in it, including chrome bits, with little to no scrubbing. When I was buying some oven cleaner the other day I noticed that there were multiple types, some had lye in it, and obviously required gloves which was what I purchased. But the same company, Easy Off makes one that doesn’t have the Lye in it and I’d imagine it’s less effective. As a rule when you need more protection for your skin, it’s a better cleanser! Of course my concern was for the plastic underneath the chrome and as Lye can get extremely hot when mixed with water I was worried that it may melt the plastic itself. It didn’t, but I am working with a hard and thick wheel from an RC model. If it was a thin plastic it possibly could do damage. So I would always recommend to look at the ingredients in each brand of cleaner to ensure you know what you’re using. It also can kill some brain cells too! Use in a well ventilated area!

Great test, thank you. The IPA did the standard paints as good as Testers, better than the Super Clean, I wounder how IPA would do on the chrome.

Tamiya makes a paint remover as well. I haven't had problems with it on tamiya plastic. I used it on a Meng kit and it ate the plastic I don't know why it did that?
