Testing a new skid steer Regrading a site

Will this new mid sized ASV have enough power to handle the oversized track system? Typically tracks steal power from the rest of the machine and these are the biggest tracks on a machine this size of any brand. So when ASV let me try out their new ASV -RT 50 I didn't expect much. But lets try it anyway.

ASV was started by some Arctic cat engineers. Arctic Cat for a long time, used Suzuki engines. That allowed ArcticCat to concentrate on the chassis part and someone else focus on the engine development. That was smart of ASV to do the same thing. Use a proven Kubota engine so they could concentrate on the chassis.

widest track... longest track... highest ground clearance. But there is VERY LITTLE track wrap on drive pulley. So you are going to have to keep that track VERY tight to keep cog skip under control. Lots of stress on the undercarriage.
@dvosberg39
@dvosberg39 3 года назад
I’m sorry for my crudeness here, but your comment is very misguided and couldn’t be more wrong. A Posi-Track drive system utilizes a low internal friction drive sprocket and roller system. Google it and you will find the system actually has the most sprocket to track lug contact area, all while reducing drag (load) and/or friction (creating pressure) on the drive and pump. As a result of the design, they have also zero track derailments and the tracks almost always last twice as long as a conventional CTL undercarriage.
@ramosel
@ramosel 3 года назад
@@dvosberg39 Misguided? Please, any first year engineering student should spot the weakness in this system. There is less than 90° wrap on that drive sprocket (hell, it's closer to 45°). You can minimize your drive roller/pin friction all you want but the only 2 ways to mitigate slip/skip ON ANY BELT DRIVE are wrap or tension. It's simple physics at play. In this design, you can't move/raise the driven wheel to get more wrap so more tension is the only way to attenuate skip. Yes, they have done great work on the dual guide pin tracks to prevent derailment (lateral slip) and the CTL rollers will see little of the added tension... they just float on whatever is below them. But the driven roller and the two idlers are taking a beating in radial loading. Depending how they beefed up the axles, they may be taking a beating axially as well since none are in double sheer.

I've had ASV since 2004. One of the machines has a serial number of 600. (59?) These track machines should only be used on dirt, not gravel. They are specific in their nature not general machines. Wheeled skid steers are more universal but cannot do what an ASV of similar size can. I've had undercarriage issues until I designed a new system with bigger bearings and seals. ASV has done that too on later models. Employees are hard on these machines, particularly the larger ones. I would not buy one for general construction or maintenance, only for applications where they are designed for. My applications are exactly suited to the machines. I even have one with a winch and skidder back end for small logging.

We have a ASV RT-65 with 1135 hours. Operate in 1/5” -2-5” sharp rock mixed with clay all the the time. Has held up and then some w/original rollers, sprocket rollers, and tracks. Tracks are even 60+% remaining. ASV is giving me money back in undercarriage savings lol...

is it not a way to attach the laser on or bucket så u can read out from our cab directly? sure its not our own machine so u dont want to build someting permanent. my father in law have a mount whit magnets for the lasor that he attach on the arm to his excavator it will do the work for him so he dont need to exit the cab.

Stanley "Dirt Monkey" Genadek well we dont to get stiff ;). Looks like u got a hold of a good machine tho! Will be interesting to see the results of our work. It’s a bit interesting to see how u guys over there do things, buy all means nothing wrong just it’s different approach one the task in hand to manage the job. Here in Sweden we most surely use a excavator to grade the surface of and maby a skid steer or a tracked dumper to haul the materials. Good work and keep on doing what u do 👍

Stanley "Dirt Monkey" Genadek I know how it works. Why not attach the head to the stick though? That’s how I used to do it. Then I could raise or lean the stick so I could see how high or low the grade was. Different ways of doing the same thing I suppose
