In this video we take a look at testing a scope at 50 yards with a 22lr.
Does it work?
Is it worth the time?
How can you tell if the scope is holding zero??? (Within a tenth of a mil)

Yeah, a .22 is a lot of fun but even the best ammo that I have found has a wide variation of data. Great video!

Been lucky with ior and kestrel at range have always been good on elevation but windage is a different story 😂

I think at 50 yards, you need to click 2x as many clicks if you came from a 100 yard zero to a 50 yard zero, or, the closer the target, the more clicks needed to see actual movement, good video

thanks man! 22lr is not the way to go when testing if a scope is repeatable.. To many variables with a 22lr!

@@pantherhollow5290 Were you shooting indoors? The echo sounded like it. For sure there are a lot of variables, but recoil and cheap ammo isn't one, that what draws me to 22lr, but yes I get you, there is so much to balance, take care and thanks for your response

Haha yea, I was gonna say u have to use a centerfire to truly test a scope, and have some distance.... good video

@pantherhollow5290 Год назад
not only a centerfire but a Bench rifle would be the preferable tool.

Depends on caliber and range limits
@pantherhollow5290
@pantherhollow5290 Год назад
actually it does not... Sorry man... you cannot see 1 tenth of a mil movement at 50 yards. I just showed it on paper. With a 22lr there is too much variance in ammo and environmentals. Thanks for the comment!

@@pantherhollow5290 I totally agree you can't see a mil at 50, or that would be a damn fine scope, 1 mil click at 50 yards = 1/2mil click, and thats splitting hairs, I cannot see that small, great video pointing this aspect about scopes out

If we were shooting a laser vs a bullet, no gravity involved, a bullet travels in a straight line (wind, drag, gravity, spin drift) are the limiting factors. A 1 mil adjustment at 100 yards is the same as a 10 mil adjustment at 1000 yards, on paper wise, drawing a straight line from the bore thru 1 target to the farthest target

@rustynut1967 Год назад
.1mil at 50 is what? .18" You could test movement in a ridged set up but not shooting 22LR to the 10th.
@pantherhollow5290

Agreed!!! But you see guys all the time saying this scope is repeatable and ALL they are testing is with a 22lr at 50 yards!! In this kind of testing SEVERAL scopes would be GOOD TO GO!!

isn't a .1 mil click at 50 actiually .05 mil??? I will shut up now, I have beat the dead horse, and wtf do I know?
@rustynut1967
@rustynut1967 Год назад
@@wowguy3562 What do you use to measure .05mils with on a target, a milcrometer?
@wowguy3562
@wowguy3562 Год назад
@@rustynut1967 lol, math. Most scopes are designed to move 1 mil per click at 100 yards. So, moving 1/2 way closer or 50 yards, you bullet travels in a straight line in a world without gravity, right. So at 50 yards your .1 mil adjustment is .05 mil. At 100 yards 1 mil, 200 yards 2 mil, 300 yards 3 mil, 400 yards 4 mil. (all from a 1 mil click). The closer your target, the more clicks you need to see a change vs at distance, is just math and bullets travel in a straight line
@rustynut1967
@rustynut1967 Год назад
@@wowguy3562 I understand the math quite well. My question is, how do you measure the shot on your target? With a tape measure, ruler, calipers, yardstick? What do you measure with to verify the adjustment on your scope is accurate? There is not a mil measuring gauge I'm aware of so it has to be converted to inches or millimeters. I apologize if the milcrometer joke went over your head.
