Today I’m trying to improve my pastures with an Aerway aerator. I’ll show you how they work and what they do to your ground. Will it help my field? We will find out with monthly updates until the cattle get turned out in the spring.

I am impressed that you left 2 acres as a control. You are not messing about.

I’ve never seen this done on a pasture before - a lawn, yes. Hope it helps!

Ha, I’m watching this 3 years afterwards. First, glad you found new background music. I think your spring/summer aeration probably showed quicker results, although I don’t think it ever hurts to break up the top soil, right?

This process works really good on Grass that is proporgated by Rhizones like Coastal Bermuda.....Each cut produces a nother plant

Interested in seeing the results this spring/summer. Hopefully you will see improvement worth the investment. Keep us posted. Thanks for the video

Glad you’re following the experiment David. Yes I’m very optimistic we’ll see some good results come spring. I’ll be doing another update video soon, probably next week. Thanks for watching!

Alfalfa stands stay in the ground for years.. Gypsum often used to loosen the ground/ease compaction w/out tearing up the Alfie. I will be watching this series intently, and hoping for your success.

+1 for gypsum. Did wonders for our clay soil. 10 years of gypsom and compost and now its like we have 6-10" of top soil before you hit the clay again.

We had to till the soil in Ontario California. The soil is so thick the tractor had a time trying to get the soil turned. Sometimes the front end of the trsctor would go up in the air. So I know about the front end weight.

My neighbor says I can borrow his to work my field which is about 80 acres. Watching your video to see if it is worth the time and effort.

I have a Aerway I use they work pretty good takes time to see the results. This past year I mounted a grass box on mine to seed behind the aerator. I have to wait and see what kind of a stand i'll have but in theory should make a difference.

You’re echoing what most people have told me, they work but it takes time. I like the reseeding idea, I think it’s a step above no-till planting because you do get a little bit of ground engagement. Seems like the new growth would do better in that situation. Thanks for watching!

@@farmertylerranch4399 I rigged it up to a hydraulic motor to run it. Put a couple videos on my channel building it but true test will be in the spring

It looks very compacted . Would you not be better to use a sward lifter and then this aerator, but with less angle on it ?

Hi, Just subbed! I saw your update video too so now 3 years on, what was your verdict? Did it increase yield or waste of time? Keen to hear your response. Cheers

I borrow one a few years ago and did a little test on a hay field and had pretty good results about a 8% increase in hay yield I would like to buy one but they are a little spendy

Yeah I’m borrowing this one with an option to buy. I’m kind of waiting to see what my results are because like you said it’s a lot of money. Glad it worked for you! Hopefully I will have the same results

The angle of the tines were too severe,hence all the turf being ripped out. This will be due to heavy compaction over the years which in turn stops deep rooting.

Thanks a lot Farmer2492. I’m still on the fence about if they work or not. I think it’s a “long game” so still too soon to tell.

Did you try doubling back on any of the rows? Would have interesting to see if doing that might work even better.
@farmertylerranch4399
@farmertylerranch4399 5 лет назад
No I actually did not but I’m thinking that might be a really good idea. I think I’ll try it next year as a matter of fact along with overseeding should make a huge difference. Thanks Joaquin!

Hey Tyler, did that aerator shake the pi$$ out of you or the tractor ? I borrowed a neighbors years ago to run over some bean stubble when I came out on the end rows where all the equipment had bn turning I thot it had fell apart everything just started shaking lol
@farmertylerranch4399
@farmertylerranch4399 5 лет назад
Ha actually no not too bad. You can feel a little jack hammering on hard ground but not terrible. Aerway stagger’s the tines to avoid this as much as possible, in fact I believe the Ranchworx one does as well. Hope you enjoyed the video, and hopefully in March I’ll declare it a huge success!

Do you have to use a roller to smooth it out ?
@farmertylerranch4399
@farmertylerranch4399 5 лет назад
I probably could have but I don’t think it’s necessary that is definitely something I’ll be looking at in the first update video. Thanks for watching!
@patwilliams6186

There is a roller option available for use on fine turf BUT for pastures let it breath and soak in the rain runoff. Great tool to own!
