This comment is NOT meant to disrespect the OP or anyone wanting this mod. But the mod doesn't make much sense to ME. I came here because a forum member added the mod and I decided to investigate. First, and this is just me, any mod to factory wiring on a vehicle with this much tech is a no go. As soon as the OP said the dash indicator for eLocker will no longer work it was game over. Second, if you are off road and you have lost traction in 2WD, what advantage does locking the rear diff by pushing and holding the diff lock button for 2 and 1/2 seconds have over turning the drive selector knob a 1/4 of an inch to 4WD High? I'm sure there is a scenario where 2WD Lock has an advantage over 4WD but I can't think of one. At a boat ramp maybe? Peace and Love,
Valid points. I like it because it gives you more options for off-roading and makes it a little more fun. I haven’t had any issues with it yet and if I did it’s easy to remove.
I'm not against this kit, although a bit pricey. Just curious there used to be a "grey wire mod" in previous gen trucks where 2 wires are grounded and-or rewired. Just thinking must have a similar mod possible on 3rd gens ? 14:07
It’s basically the “grey wire mod” but this is going to be much more convenient turning the traction control on and off and having the indicator light.
Thanks for doing the video, it was precise/professional. Without it I am sure I would have destroyed lots of stuff on the dash. I actually installed the 2wd Lo harness which was more appropriate for immediate needs. I plan to do a 2wd/2hi locker hack in the future. Meanwhile I have the 2wd Lo locker. (REAL MEN DO LOCKERS !!)
It provides power to both wheels. Not traction. In an open diff your wheel with less traction will get all the power. A locking diff forces the wheel with traction to spin at the same time. The wheel with traction could be enough to move the vehicle forward enough to get both tires on an idle surface again.
@@DFilthySmurf try coming to a complete stop and pressing the button. If that doesn’t work then put it in neutral then press the button. Keep in mind you might have to drive forward to get it to fully lock. I’m sure if you play with it you’ll be able to get it to work. As far the Anytime Locker goes I’m not sure if it works on a 4x2. If you’re really interested in getting one, reach out to Experimental designs.
basically once I get Off-Road I turn this on, 4x4 is barely needed at that point and you don't get any binding in your steering while turning so you get better maneuverability.
I think the main thing is to not have to have it in 4wd low. They won't engage the locker unless you are so this allows you to lock it without going 4 low.
