Testing Dspiae Chrome Paint - Is This The Best Chrome Paint For Models?

Another note worth mentioning, this by far is the best chrome finish I've found, But...as soon as you clear it, it fogs right up, and if you try to like wipe the dust off the finish goes away. So I tried it again on some spoons and waited a week before clear coating...much much better..in my particular application it has to be cleared, but for regular model building where it won't be touched...it is perfect!

I love your videos! They are so useful! The only thing I end up wishing is that you would hold up every new test as a comparison with your other prior chrome tests along with holding it against your favorite because when all said and done, in person Im sure it may look a bit different. Maybe a board with a sample of your chrome spoons?

I needed this chrome when I redid my Jeep tail lights. The light bucket was all black plastic and I used SpazStix Chrome cause at the time it was the "best" chrome.

If you want to make gold mix 1:1 transluscent orange and yellow then light coats over chrome. Boom. Perfect gold chrome.

That looks like the best stuff yet for chrome may rival actual chrome if its shine stays as nice as you showed.

Thanks for showing this new chrome, if it doesn't rub off like Molotow it will be a keeper, i bet Aqua Gloss also works but if the paint is durable enough it shouldn't need it, think it will dull with Vallejo Gloss or Mecha Gloss. Green Stuff World Chrome (the brush version) looks kinda similar through an airbrush, you should test that via airbrush.

It sucks that so many of the great chrome paints or materials I've found on your channel lately are all seemingly indefinitely out of print and unavailable, really makes you wonder where the industry is going if some of the best products don't really exist anymore

I very much wish you could compare all the 'best', 'outstanding', and winners. Each episode has a winner! But which one do YOU actually use, and feel, is the absolute best? Which requires a protective clear coat, and which clear coat does not KILL the shine. Perhaps a best acrylic, a best laquer, enamel, etc. Easiest, hardest. In going back through your Chrome and gold comparisons, I seem to end up with 5 bests, any definitive THIS IS THE BEST!? Thanks, love your site. Richard

love this video and just bought 5 of the refill bottles to test this out. Alclad fan myself but this looked impressive. One ask please to list the PSI, Needle size (can’t always remember what you have in each brush) and which clean up you used, just as an overlay maybe in the video

Thanks for another great review. I wonder if you mix gloss in with the actual paint and then airbrushed it, if the same shine would be present with the protection of the clear coat already mixed in?

I tried the Chrome pen from Hobby Mio and it looked very good on small parts but on large areas look just silver.

Chrome need only much more time to dry before you put the clear code on, more likely 2-6 weeks to dry before put anything on it, I tested it on my music equipment ;D

To me the gsw chrome (brush version) and molotow act the same through an airbrush and have the same final result with a wet coat. This looks the same to me reflectivity wise, but I want to see if it retains more detail or is more durable/easier to work with.

look so nice, I'm gonna get some. But its very hard to get microscale gloss at my place, and its very expansive to get it over ebay. Prolly will try some other acrylic gloss coat.

Good advice not to use the dehydrator. I actually have some chrome that dulled a year later due to paint oxidation. I’m wondering if over time most of these chrome paints will dull.

Over the last few years you have tested a lot of chrome. Is this Dspiae coating the best you've tested??? If not what do you recommend for the surfaces I am painting. I am planning to airbrush this on polystyrene with a gloss black undercoat. I will also use it on polished metal casting with a gloss black undercoat. This stuff looks amazing. Do you think it will take 'panel liner' over it? Or, because it's so shiny and smooth they won't 'hang up' in the crevices? I've had this problem with other chromes, they just run off. I'm hoping as this is Acrylic, I will be able to put other acrylics over it and they will stay put.

Can you get the Material Safety Data Sheet for it? Isn't that required to be available?

Quick test on Dspiae vs Molotow I did Smells better, seems thinner, and sprays a lot easier than the Molotow (although I guess you can thin the Molotow further but I've found this does make very slightly less chrome-y). With both you have to spray heavy and wet, Molotow I found that sometimes you get some inconsistent spray/atomization which causes hazing at points, you can avoid this if you are careful but doing it consistent can be harder. In addition this makes you obscure more detail in the process as you are laying down thicker layers to get the chrome right. If you are spraying onto model pieces and trying to get a chrome effect while preserving detail, staying consistent is harder. With Dspiae its much easier to get a coat down without the overspray and hazing issues and it seems to be thinner as well so more detail will be preserved. I had no issues with the chrome look being uneven or hazing. Final chrome look on a spoon is slightly better on Dspiae than Molotow, with a big plus being its just consistent and even on the whole piece. Letting them dry for a week now and then going to coat with Alclad candy, Molotow holds up to most of those... really hoping the Dspiae will hold up as that will mean its just better than Molotow in every way.

Great Results. The only downside is the vials are rather small. So more than one needs to be purchased at a time. Any of the chrome paints how are decals applied to them?

How does the chrome hold up to handling before a clear coat? I use the Molotow chrome marker ink and it sprays great. However when handled it started turning more silver instead of leaving it chrome.

U should use your airbrush stand for comparison

if it cleans up with ipa, i'd think it'll be similar to molotow. can you hit it with a coat of aqua gloss and see what happens? microscale is the same people that make mircoset and microsol for decals. if you haven't tried it, i highly suggest you do. takes the wrinkles right out on curved surfaces.

Can you try the marker in the Gundam marker airbrush? See if it gives the same finish as the refill in a normal airbrush.

Would it work well if I do a clear colour coat on top of the chrome layer using the aqueous hobby color line? And finish it either using a aqueous premium topcoat gloss or vallejo gloss varnish to maintain the shine? Edit: I checked with dspiae's customer support, it was mentioned that the marker is lacquer based.

I didn't see the white spoon results. Have you sprayed it over primer, especially black, gray, and white?

I wonder if this could be used on a polymer gun frame. What do you think the durability with be with handling whatever you painted with it?

The problem with the chrome pens ala Molotow is that they go bad within a few months once you open them. I have a few Molotow chrome refils that I hadn’t used in over a year and went totally bad even after shaking them up. So far GSW chrome is my go-to.

Hello sir, I am trying to do a gunmetal/gray chrome that can resist heat. I wanted to convert my headlight housing from chrome to gunmetal chrome. If you can suggest the paint, needle size, psi, paint (Alclad, GSW, or this brand?) I’m going to buy an affordable airbrush to do all this also. Can you recommend any combo and black chrome paint to match this. I am trying to go for the 2000 Honda Civic type R (ek9) headlight look. Must be heat resistant as it will be sealed inside a housing. I hope I get a reply!

Is it possible to paint over it? For example, to paint over the details for that gun he sprayed?

Side note, I was also pronouncing Molotow like Molo-Toe but I got confirmation from the company it's pronounced just like Molotov (like the cocktails), it's just spelled traditionally with a W.

I am trying to chrome a few fishing lures. I see a bazillion different RU-vid video about different products. If I tried all the various brands I’d have 20 times the value of the lures invested in paint. So, my question is if you could only use one product to duplicate a real chrome finish which would you choose? I tried some Spazticks but over regular black rather than gloss black and the result is more like polished aluminum rather than chrome. Before I redo it I’d like to know is there is a preferred product you would recommend Also, I need to put on a two part epoxy finish as they will take a beating. I assume I need to use a mid coat that won’t kill the mirror finish. Thoughts on that would be greatly appreciated

Does it dull after touching it much? My AK Superchrome dulls fairly easily after handling it

MICRO GLOSS, like an ALCLAD stuff, are both based on a PVA, so they have a bluish look. also the "Future" does

Thank you for doing these tests. I’d like to paint a goalie mask with chrome paint, is there one you think would work best for that purpose? It will have to be very durable and take clear coat very well as I’ll prob put several coats of 2k clear on it.

Ehhhhhhhhhhh it's hard to really judge the true quality of the chrome through a screen. This looks like the same exact results that I get using the Molotow High Gloss Chrome straight from the bottle via airbrush. When I run out of that I'll give this stuff a try. As good as it does look it honestly can't be any worse than Molotow lol

How does this compare to Green Stuff World chrome?

I think its just Molotow chrome or Green Stuff World Brush Chrome. Mr. Thinner Leveling should thin it fine.
