In this video, I will be testing the existing fiber distribution hub that I spliced into to provide access to a new development area for this network. This is day 6 of the build series I will be explaining throughout the video what I am seeing based on the test results and explaining in detail how I determine if the splicing has been done correctly.

Beautiful countryside views, along with equally beautiful work to ensure network connectivity.❤

As a design engineer, 20 years ago I used to specify OTDR tests on school campus backbones, I gave up on OTDR results as most contractors didn't know how to do them properly. It's a lot easier now. They would submit test results showing signal gain 😢

Nice that’s awesome, happy to hear from someone with so many years of experience. Yea OTDR are a lot more user friendly these days. Thanks for watching and subscribing I really appreciate it

Finally, a channel showing fiber in the field (literally..) I retired a year ago from installing /servicing Ciena servers for ISP's up and down the east coast. This last year, the local electric coop started installing fiber for internet, and it's getting close to my neck of the woods. Needless to say, I'm 'biting at the bit' to drop the cable co, and get some decent speed. Keep up the videos, they keep my interest going!

At one campus I made the contractor re-terminate 120 fiber terminations because they didn't install buffer tubes. but that was 20 years ago, products are more robust now. If I recall I was specifying gel-filled loose tube and switched to tight buffer.

I'm so used to Ethernet being plug 'n' play & copper lines and first time dealing with fiber. It's a complete nightmare, especially with those proprietary transceivers. The manufacturer says, "Our transceivers don't work in "unauthorized" gear for your safety," and I'm like, "Bruh, the transceivers have driver chip + op-amp to control the laser(s) 'n' shoot light thru a glass tube. They aren't going to fake a keyboard or mouse and/or infect the equipment machine as they function particular way, that makes such threat impossible."

Now is when you guys roll out the fibre optics, when i`m 67 and almost dead. I`m never going to see fibre to my wall outlet in the house. LOL.

Haha well all depends on where you are living at? A lot of builds are happening all around the world over the next 5 years
@alcampbell
@alcampbell 3 месяца назад
@@fibersplicegod Yeah, its happening sooner than I think. I have AT&T, and they have already sent me nasty letters telling me I would have to get a new carrier for Long distance and regular home phone service, because they are fixing to upgrade with fibre my whole Orange County neighborhood.

@@VideoByPatrick No I dont have internet at home at all, Not DSL not anything. I go to the local library for internet. Its just the home phone I kept going all these years. It costs me $65 just in minimum charges.. AT& T just nickel and dimes me to death, and I don`t use the phone at all.

@alcampbell I should have said do you have old now obsolete copper twisted phone line; for calls and for years was dsl capable. The lead lines were deemed obsolete and dangerous (lead) if consumed.

Is it normal and ok that the back plate flexes when plugging inn and out?
@LordGooben
@LordGooben 2 месяца назад
depends and yes, big patch panel will flex like that it won't cause damage to the fiber

Are you using a UPC launch cable against an APC connector in the terminal? Does that increase the launch loss numbers?
@raytaylornz
@raytaylornz 3 месяца назад
It appears to be a launch cable with a UPC on one end and an APC on the other end. Probably because the OTDR has a UPC terminal on it.
