This month the Air Armoury's JRH goes to extreme lengths to test Gamo's 'Whisper' air rifle technology.
*In my conclusion I should have stated clearer, the rifle is getting towards the 50% quieter mark (compared to the particularly loud Remington Express) but this is not as a result of the 'Whisper Technology', as there was little difference once it was removed.

You changed the position of your phone when you'd removed the moderator, so no not a thorough test

@ANTI THEIST This. I mean what the heck, man? As soon as you move the phone, the entire test is worthless. Your measuring device needs to be kept in the exact same position relative to the barrel position.

Hi AA, I have a Gamo Whisper IGT which incorporates the same Whisper Tech, but slightly more capable lol. On the Whisper IGT, I can remove the plastic baffles and the rifle is def louder without the baffles. It could be better, but it is quite quiet. Just thought I would let you know. Keep up the good vids. Cheers

I recently tested my Gamo Maxxim Elite .22 cal. With the whisper silencer it averaged at 83 decibels and with the baffles and everything removed it averaged at 84 decibels. So the so called 'Whisper Silencer' is completely pointless and completely useless. I'm now working out how to fit a silencer that actually works.

I've been using a crosman f4 with a nitro piston for a few months and you can hear the pellet hitting things. With the gamo shadow whisper, I only hear the gun. The first time I shot it, I thought that the pellet was stuck inside the barrel. Nonetheless, I like it and it's supposedly up to 50 fps faster than the f4, at least on paper. I've never chronographed them. Today, I managed to take down an iguana with the gamo and it works like a charm too.

Perhaps it was the camera angle; however, it appears the phone was in a different (closer) location for the first test. If the phone was further away on subsequent tests, that could explain some of the difference in sound level.

Great info, really appreciate it. I just got this gun 2 days ago and habent done much with it yet. I have a Gamo Magnum and I thought sound wise they are close to the same. Funny little .177 and the "scope killer" sound the same.

How did you know where to cut? I have a Ruger airhawk 2 elite that I want to remove the silencer. My hope is to make it louder. If you have video of the removal of the silencer. Can you put it in a video? I do realize you showed a little in this video.

Appreciate you taking the time but to be fair the phone was in a different place second test. No idea if that makes much difference but it did seem a lot closer on the first test. Thanks for the effort any way👍

It makes a huge difference! This test was utterly incompetent! In some cases the microphone was directly facing the noise source, in others it was facing away from it and shielded by the phone itself. The noise level at any particular spot is also proportional to the square of the distance from the source - so, if you have the mike 1 inch away for one test and 2 inches for the next the noise energy at the measuring point varies by a factor of 4! The decibel scale is logarithmic so this is not reflected in huge numerical differences in the reading: - 3dB represents a halving of the noise. These results are scientifically meaningless, it is impossible to tell anything about the moderator good, bad or indifferent. If I were Gamo I would have a go but maybe they can't be arsed in the face of such amateurishness.

To help consider why Gamo don’t have noise suppressors on their most powerful air rifles you could have investigated to see if there was any velocity difference. But the findings could have been moot considering the power differences between this rifle and their Magnums. So you would need to test the most powerful moderated versions. Which you would likely need a FAC for, as well as the budget... Also some say those suppressors (when functional) affect down range noise, rather than side on noise as you investigated.

The Remington does pack more of a punch however, would that alone contribute to the noise?

You sere getting what, about 62 decibels with the tock gun. That does seem very quiet. I've senfigures on a Crosman Optimus, which is a springer of just over 100 DB's. their Vantage model, shich is a nitro piston model of around 95-96 DB's. So, 62 is pretty quiet. And, after you cut everything off, it still was under 70.

I saw another video where another guy did the same test and the gun actually got quieter without the suppressor very disapointing job on suppression.

I found out a way you brits could get around the 12-ft pound regulation you could either diesel your gun or I don't know if you can buy gun parts without an fa see if you can you can buy the nitro Piston from the over 12 ft pound gun

Is the Ruger Air hawk elite 2 different than the guns new reviewed. Is the shooting mechanism different inside. Umarex says removing the silencer we'll make it louder. Do you agree? I have subscribed to your channel please check mine out.

You also need to have the measuring devise on the same platform,same distance,same height. This proves nothing.

That is what I noticed. The first test with the moderator was directly just underneath the barrel but the skin less one was further away :)

98% of noise is from the action, silencers are a con on any springer. i wouldnt buy a gamo no matter how cheap they get, the are a crap swindler firm as far as im concerned all hype and no truth in it, sorry. cheers.
